New Year Party: Looking Forward to 2019
Hello people of the best bar and welcome to 2019! (Well, in about an hour and a half in my part of the world.) We’re kicking things off with a New Year’s Party chatting about the things we’re looking forward to this year.

2019 is the year of Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame (!!!), and Spider-Man: Far From Home, but other than that - what are you looking forward to in 2019? Do you have any fics, fanvids, or other creative works you hope to start/progress/finish this year? (Can we have a sneak peak?) Have you made any new year’s resolutions? What films/books/tv shows are coming out this year that you’re excited about? Let’s have a chat about good things!

And this comm may be THE place to hang out in Clint/&Natasha corner of the fandom *grins* but we ALSO love the rest of the Marvel universe and - strange but true - also things other than Marvel. So do tell us about things in the wider world that you’re excited about as well. Maybe you’ll spread the excitement to someone else who’ll find a new favourite thing!

And never posted before? Come join in! New year is a great time to welcome new people :)

How to play: copy and paste the contents of the text box below into a comment and fill in the answers, then have a chat with people about the great things 2019 has in store.

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

What fics/fanvids/other creative works are you hoping to start, work on, or finish this year?
I *AM* going to do that werewolf thing for Halloween (ha! So I said THIS past year!) and finish the Whumptober thing with Crazy4Orcas. Finishing. That's my theme for the year. Take some of those WIPs and make them finished. :)

Can we have a short three-line quote or teaser?
Uh, no? heeeeee

Have you made any new year's resolutions or have any 2019 goals?
I don't do resolutions. Like, I have goals, but not resolutions and the goals are the usual.

Are there any films/books/tv shows/music etc being released this year that you're really excited about?
I'm finally gonna read Frea's real books and my friend Sus's real books.

Inspired by Clint Barton and his love of Dog Cops: a Marvel character watches a (real or imagined) film or TV show. What’s their reaction?
Buh... I've been traveling and I'm tired. I can't think of something coherent right now.
inkvoices[personal profile] inkvoices on January 2nd, 2019 08:50 pm (UTC)
As you've commented anonymously I can't peg what 'werewolf thing' but I am ON BOARD FOR THIS :D

Hope you get some r&r to recover from travelling!
cassie[personal profile] kiss_me_cassie on January 4th, 2019 02:43 pm (UTC)
THIS WAS ME! I have not idea why it went anon. Me = Stupid. :P

The werewolf thing was from a promptathon and I wrote an incomplete ficlet and then came up with a full fic and then wanted to finish it for this Halloween and then didn't but BY GOLLY I WILL GET IT DONE IN 2019!!!!!

(Also, it is not ABO or otherwise. Just normal supernatural werewolf, vampire, and other shit like that. :))
inkvoices: avengers:electricity[personal profile] inkvoices on January 4th, 2019 11:15 pm (UTC)
Technology, pfft ;)

EXCELLENT, I really liked that snipped you posted. I will look forward to supernatural AU :D

Hey guys! Happy New Year!!!

What fics/fanvids/other creative works are you hoping to start, work on, or finish this year?

I have various WIPs, all of them abandoned for now. I'm planning to find some time to write in the next couple of months, though!

Can we have a short three-line quote or teaser?

Eh, right now they're basically scattered words, so you really don't want to.

Have you made any new year's resolutions or have any 2019 goals?

Way the planet is going, survive, I guess.

Are there any films/books/tv shows/music etc being released this year that you're really excited about?

2019 seems very promising! Apart from Endgame, GoT and Stranger Things, I'm also looking forward to Good Omens, and The Crown's third season.

Inspired by Clint Barton and his love of Dog Cops: a Marvel character watches a (real or imagined) film or TV show. What’s their reaction?

Natasha Romanoff has a secret addiction to Downton Abbey. Steve Rogers liked Sherlock and Life on Mars, as well as basically anything produced by the BBC. Bruce Banner is a known Trekkie. Tony Stark may or may not watch Disney movies to unwind; the fact remains that he has been heard singing "Let It Go" more than once. Clint Barton is looking forward to Peaky Blinders' next season.

Oh, yeah, we get to find out who wins the Game of Thrones this year! And Good Omens, wow, I keep fogetting that's a thing. I think Paul Kidby is supposed to be doing illustrations for a new copy of the book too.

Love your team tv/movie headcanons :)

...and how could I forget the Captain Marvel/Wonder Woman female badassery that's waiting for us in March!
inkvoices: avengers:synchronized flailing[personal profile] inkvoices on January 9th, 2019 09:35 pm (UTC)
The more I say of Captain Marvel, the more excited I am *grins*
cassie[personal profile] kiss_me_cassie on January 4th, 2019 02:45 pm (UTC)
I feel you so hard on the scattered words. Also incomplete thoughts in an loose outline. UGH.
crystallitanie[personal profile] crystallitanie on January 9th, 2019 08:51 pm (UTC)
I know, right? And at some point they simply... write themselves. Of course, this necessitates you finding some free time to actually sit down and, you know, open that Word file. (sigh)
alphaflyer[personal profile] alphaflyer on January 5th, 2019 05:18 pm (UTC)
There's more Stranger Things? I thought it had kind of ... peaked. Or am I mistaken?
crystallitanie[personal profile] crystallitanie on January 9th, 2019 08:49 pm (UTC)
Why, of course there's more. As if Netflix would let it go so easily... The third season is set to release in the summer, I think.
inkvoices[personal profile] inkvoices on January 2nd, 2019 11:16 pm (UTC)
What fics/fanvids/other creative works are you hoping to start, work on, or finish this year? I really, really, really need to finish the next installment in a demon!AU 'verse because it keeps growing, but THIS year I need to get it done, and an AU where Natasha is a food/restaurant critic and Clint is a cafe/coffee shop owner, for a prompt [personal profile] gsparkle left...um, yonks ago *sheepish grin*. I also have an AU where Clint is a musician and Natasha is his bodyguard that I'd like to spend some time on. And considering how long it takes me to finish things those should keep me busy for a while!

Can we have a short three-line quote or teaser?

Natasha pauses at the bottom of the steps to consider the café’s chalkboard sign sitting right in the middle at eye level. OPEN it says in a white, fancy font. STILL has been added above it by a less neat hand and NO REALLY underneath in a different colour. Below that is a drawing of a smiling coffee cup.

Have you made any new year's resolutions or have any 2019 goals? Post more finished words than last year and spend more time writing in general. I've set a yearly reading goal on goodreads again. And, as ever, I should make healtheir eating and exercing choices.

Are there any films/books/tv shows/music etc being released this year that you're really excited about? First books I'm looking forward to are Wicked King by Holly Black and In An Absent Dream by Seanan Mcguire, both due out Janauary 8th. All the Marvel films *grins*. Hozier's new album, which keeps being put back and should surely come out this year! I'm not a huge TV person, but I'm currently enjoying the new season of Luther and looking forward to season 2 of Runaways.

Inspired by Clint Barton and his love of Dog Cops: a Marvel character watches a (real or imagined) film or TV show. What’s their reaction?
"Dumbo is gonna make you cry, isn't it?" Kate says to Clint as the last strains of music from the trailer die away.
"Shut up," Clint mutters where he's slumped on the couch next to her, closing his eyes.
"I mean, it's gonna make me cry," Kate complains, "and I'm not the one with the circus thing."
On Kate's other side America folds her arms and curses, "Disney."
cassie[personal profile] kiss_me_cassie on January 4th, 2019 02:45 pm (UTC)
LOFL! I love that Dumbo headcannon. AWESOMESAUCE!

Also, gsparkle has prompted the food critic thing a bunch of times (yay!) so you can still fulfill it somehow! And I really really want the the musician AU. :)
inkvoices[personal profile] inkvoices on January 4th, 2019 11:17 pm (UTC)
Have you SEEN that trailer? I didn't even like the animated Dumbo film, and damn, I had a tear in my eye. Ouch!

Well it's getting written...although it'll probably end up looking like nothing they actually prompted knowing my luck, lol. I also really want the musician AU; thank you for the encouragement, MUST WRITE.
alphaflyer[personal profile] alphaflyer on January 4th, 2019 04:08 pm (UTC)
I am TOTALLY here for the coffee shop/critic thing!!!
inkvoices[personal profile] inkvoices on January 4th, 2019 11:18 pm (UTC)
I have many, many words scribbled and I know nearly everything that happens in it, it just needs to happen... *grins*

Do you have any fic plans yet for this year? Or waiting for Endgame...?
alphaflyer[personal profile] alphaflyer on January 4th, 2019 11:32 pm (UTC)
see the comment I just posted... :)
gabrielle[personal profile] gsparkle on January 7th, 2019 03:00 am (UTC)
YAY for everything here, especially the prompt :DD It's not that old, so don't worry!!
inkvoices[personal profile] inkvoices on January 9th, 2019 09:36 pm (UTC)
Aww, thanks, and yep, I have absolutely filled prompts that are way older I'm sure LOL.
alphaflyer[personal profile] alphaflyer on January 4th, 2019 11:25 pm (UTC)
Late to the party, as usual... but it is Friday, so I'll just pretend this was an ATTF!!

What fics/fanvids/other creative works are you hoping to start, work on, or finish this year?

Well, I have this ST:VOY multi-chapter that's been in the freezer for lo! 5 years or so...

Plus, I haven't done a good 5+1 for a while, so PROMPT ME!

Can we have a short three-line quote or teaser?

“I suppose you don’t remember, but I sure do. You had the Doc kill you in order to rescue your dead mother from, what was it... Klingon hell? No disrespect to Klingon religious beliefs and all that, but there’s a good chance my father is actually still alive, and will appreciate being rescued in person. Plus, at least I’m not including dying as part of the plan.”

Have you made any new year's resolutions or have any 2019 goals?

The usual - drop some of the weight I gained the last 3 years. Or at least restore my abs to a semi-functional state so I won't look like I'm pregnant anymore.

Are there any films/books/tv shows/music etc being released this year that you're really excited about?

Well, there's the whole MCU Phase 3 wrap-up thing. Clint!!! Will the AoU relationship side quest be resolved, and how? How will Capt Marvel fit in? How will everyone else react?

And GoT. My prediction is for the resolution to be a multi-party alliance, by way of the creators showing the planet a better way than the hyper-partisan, winner-take-all bullshit we've been seeing in RL (and on the show, of course).

Plus Season 2 os Star Trek: DISCO!!!! Will we get the original Lorca back? How will Mirror!Philippa adjust to her new life?

Inspired by Clint Barton and his love of Dog Cops: a Marvel character watches a (real or imagined) film or TV show. What’s their reaction?

Firefly

"My bow doesn't have a name."

Natasha casts a half-open, wary eye on her partner. He has been fletching arrows, over some TV show that looks like the spawn of the unhappy marriage between a Western and a space opera. No wonder she'd dozed off.

"And this is a problem why?"

Clint looks at her with pity in his eyes.

"All good weapons have a name. Big Bertha. Fat Man. Little Boy. Novichok."

"Those are all weapons of mass destruction, Clint. I don't know how to tell you this, but your bow is... a bow."

On the screen, some pretty redhead kisses the protagonist, who promptly falls unconscious. Natasha rolls her eyes. Narcotic lipstick, oldest trick in the book. How original.

Clint takes offence.

"Big Bertha was an artillery piece. And my bow, I will have you know, is a majestic, state-of-the-art instrument of lethal beauty. It deserves a name. If Jayne can call what’s basically a souped-up Saiga-12 'Vera', then my bow should be at least a - I dunno. What's a good elvish name? I could call it Anduril, I suppose. Although that’s been done."

Natasha is now fully awake. She pulls her feet out of Clint’s lap and sits upright.

"Who's Jayne? That chick in statistics that keeps putting the make on you?"

Clint snorts.

"The one with the nose rings? No, that's Lillian. Jayne is a guy. Specifically, that guy."

He points to a tall, lunkish, white male who doesn’t seem overly bright. And she notices something: the man looks familiar. Natasha may have the occasional problem with names, but she never forgets a face.

"Wait,” she says, bumping Clint’s arm. “Isn't that the idiot who invented Gamer Gate? Some Baldwin, but from the Republican branch of the family? Why exactly would you want to emulate that guy on anything?"

It's Clint's turn to roll his eyes.

"Fiction, Tasha. 'Firefly' is fiction. You of all people should be able to tell the difference. Fallaces sunt rerum spices, isn't that what you like to say?"

"Species," she corrects him absently. Of course, he's right. She should know the difference between a role and the person.

But honestly? Lately she's been finding it more and more difficult to figure out where the Black Widow ends and where Natasha Romanoff begins, and the spiky-haired, part-sleek-menace-part-doofus beside her has not exactly been helping. In fact, he may well be part of the problem.

On the screen, there's more kissing now - some gorgeous chick presses her lips to the first casualty, promptly falling down beside him in a swoon. Natasha leans forward, frowns and shakes her head.

“Now why would she do that?” she asks. “I mean, the guy is passed out on the floor. He could be having Space Ebola. You shouldn’t kiss someone when you don’t know how they died.”

“He’s not dead, Tash,” Clint says. “That’s Nathan Fillion. He’s, like, the lead? They wouldn’t kill him this early on in the show.”

You know that,” she replies. “And I know that. But she doesn’t. Remember? Fiction versus reality?”

“Well,” Clint says, carefully setting his finished arrow down on the coffee table. “If you really want to know, I would kiss you, if I thought you were dead. Even if you were covered in blood and tentacle marks.”

There’s a shoot-out happening on screen (seriously? Inside a spaceship? Who writes this stuff?) but Natasha elects to ignore it. Reality, it turns out, is much more interesting than fiction.

“You would?” she purrs, turns and frames his face with both hands.

The tip of his tongue momentarily peeks out, wetting his lips.

“Yes. Yes, I would. I absolutely w....”

She closes his mouth with hers. Space and time disappear, along with a good amount of clothing, not to mention any doubts as to who and what is real; by the time they come up for air the credits have long finished rolling.

“I wonder how they ended up,” Natasha says, her hand lazily trailing a line from the middle of Clint’s sternum down those delightful abs.

“Who?”

“The people in that space Western you were watching.”

“Ah. Right. I think a lot of them they get eaten by ravagers,” he mumbles into her hair. “Eventually. They cancelled the show, so they could afford to let them go out in style.”

“That’s sad. Although – ravagers, did you say? That sounds … interesting.”

Clint knows a cue when he is given one. His mouth slides down her body slowly, deliberately, nipping here and there as she wriggles and sighs with contentment. But before he settles down to serious business, he has one more thing to say.

“We still need to come up with a name for my bow.”

It is Tom. Talking to B'Elanna. Four chapters of "Proof of Life" are up on FFN... There should be 8. :P

but it is Friday, so I'll just pretend this was an ATTF Yeeeah, I should have posted this on Friday; people expect Fridays. Ah well.

I still haven't jumped on the Star Trek wagon, but finishing a fic that's been on the backburner for that long would be ACHIEVEMENT so here's me cheering you on!

I keep forgetting we get to find out the winner of the GoT this year. Hmm, interesting theory. I was thinking John and Daenerys team up to rule all, but I also like the idea of Sansa being Queen in the North...

You wrote full on fic!!! And of them watching Firefly! LOVE IT <3 Narcotic lipstick, and naming of weapons, and characters vs actors, and space ebola, ha.
alphaflyer[personal profile] alphaflyer on January 5th, 2019 10:54 pm (UTC)
It'll be Jon and Daenerys and Tyrion and Jaime (who will come around) and Sansa/Aria and Yara (or did she die? I forget) and Brienne, all the Northerners together.

And thanks! :) I needed an excuse to do a Clintasha, and I had an evening free, so... :D I haven't had space ebola, but I've definitely had the Cardassian grubworm.

So I made the mistake to read the books back in 2012 (which, apart from everything else, meant four years of agony - watching the most painful stuff unfolding before my eyes with a bunch of people who didn't have a clue and were so sweetly, hilariously hopeful at the beginning of each season), and now I'm totally convinced that the end will be like "...and then, everything was destroyed. Ice and fire clashed, taking all living things with them, leaving behind a shattered wasteland which still echoed with the voices of thousands punished souls. But alas, this is the fate of the world, history makes circles, maybe in a few centuries the spark of life will bloom again, blah blah blabity blah". I just can't see this sadistic guy writing a happy end to this series...

On the other hand, I'm very curious to see if my prediction about the "three heads" of the dragon will come true. All of them Targaryen, although one of them doesn't know it yet...

Uh-oh, now you've said it I can't help thinking something like 'ice zombies invade, everyone dies' or everyone but some random, second string character who takes the crown, or turns Westeros into a republic or something. Whatever the Red Wedding equivalant of an ending would be!

What fics/fanvids/other creative works are you hoping to start, work on, or finish this year?
okay i'm trying for quarterly goals so i really want to finish that circus AU thing, plus an entry in my fast forward series and whatever the Valentine's promptathon throws my way by the end of March. Potentially biting off more than I can chew but [shrug]

Can we have a short three-line quote or teaser?

Clint grins, irrepressible. “Well, Kate says I’m a royal pain in the ass.”

Natasha snorts. “Kate is right,” she informs him, and Clint clutches his heart and falls against her in exaggerated insult without even checking to see if she’s joking. She appreciates that he doesn’t take himself too seriously, or her, for that matter, unafraid to poke fun at any presented opportunity. He smiles at her jokes--which she appreciates; she knows that she’s not the kind of person who usually makes people laugh outright--and asks questions; not the way she interrogates people, or the way guys at bars feign interest to get laid, but questions she doesn’t have answers to, like what kitchen utensil is she most similar to, and what food would she want to be encased in during a hypothetical Han-Solo-in-carbonite moment, and also does she agree with Kate that adults shouldn’t eat Pop Rocks?

Have you made any new year's resolutions or have any 2019 goals?
we just bought a house and are finally not running around crazy, so meal planning and unpacking all our boxes by June!

Are there any films/books/tv shows/music etc being released this year that you're really excited about?
All MCU stuff, of course, but really: KILLING EVE SEASON TWO!!!

Inspired by Clint Barton and his love of Dog Cops: a Marvel character watches a (real or imagined) film or TV show. What’s their reaction?
Tony and Natasha love those James Bond marathons they show on tv around every major holiday: Natasha because she loves critiquing spy movies and Tony because he loves watching stylish people drink. Clint points out that Tony owns, like, everything, so they could watch without commercials, but they ignore him because that's not the point.

What fics/fanvids/other creative works are you hoping to start, work on, or finish this year?
Thanks to that intense Endgame trailer and Secret Santa, my Clintasha creativity has been reawakened. I spent countless hours in hospitals in 2018 and reread every (probably) Clintasha fic in existence. But those new 3 seconds of screen time just... well, you know...

Can we have a short three-line quote or teaser?
Nothing yet, but soon. I hope.

Have you made any new year's resolutions or have any 2019 goals?
My husband has been fighting cancer since May 2018. Our goal for 2019 is to kick cancer’s ass, get him strong, and then take a decadent vacation to celebrate our love of life and each other.

Are there any films/books/tv shows/music etc being released this year that you're really excited about?
Besides the obvious movies (Capt Marvel and Endgame), I’m addicted to the tv show “A Million Little Things.” I just love how this group of friends take care of each other. There are some eye rolling moments, but I can look past them and enjoy the show. Also “Lucifer” is coming to Netflix. This makes me smile. An evil smile.

Inspired by Clint Barton and his love of Dog Cops: a Marvel character watches a (real or imagined) film or TV show. What’s their reaction?
Speaking of “Lucifer”... I can see Tony not so secretly loving the show and kinda empathasizing with Lucifer’s headspace. I think Natasha makes mental notes of some of Maze’s wardrobe and weapon pairings.

There's something about having those 3 more seconds of screentime where my brain went YES, THAT, AGAIN, just lots of single words in caps, ha.

Ooo, Lucifer. I read volume one of the Mike Carey comics run and I found volume two on sale to read...
