This is a Marvel SDCC Panel News Post
Marvel just wrapped up its big SDCC panel, which Iron Man 3 headlined but which also served to deliver other MCU news and footage. The big reveals included the official titles of Captain America 2 (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and Thor 2 (Thor: The Dark World); plus, Guardians of the Galaxy was confirmed as a 2014 movie and Ant-Man test footage was shown.

No Black Widow or Hawkeye-specific news, unfortunately, but remember there is that Cap2 spec we talked about a few weeks ago, which seemed very positive for the good ship Clint/Natasha. Based on the subtitle for Cap2 alone, we know these guys were right about at least one thing, so fingers crossed! :)

Ant Man... *just shakes head*

Yeah... Don't know much about him but I have a friend who's really into the comics and he filled me in a little and...yeah.

I really hope Marvel knows what it's doing and does it veeeery carefully. Seems risky to introduce so many new people so fast when the original cast is what people are fired up for right now. If it was hard to handle that many superheroes in Avengers, how much of a mess could Avengers 2 turn into if not done right?

That said, I'd like to remain cautiously optimistic about all this. I'm pretty pleased with what we've gotten so far w/r/t characters.

If they can manage to not make Ant Man lame, I will be very impressed. I agree with you about the influx of characters, though. And wasn't there another rumor about them bringing in Panther or another AA hero? It sure seems like it'd be difficult to juggle all these characters and give them each more than 15 minutes of meaningful screen time.

I read something today that said that they aren't casting a real person as Ant Man because it's all CGI? Have you heard that? Seems weird after going through all the trouble to make the Hulk more realistic. Plus, there's no character we can't put a face to AFTER the fact.

Maybe Ant Man will just be a little straight to dvd CGI flick and then they'll concentrate on a Black Widow or at least Black Widow and Hawkeye film? *pleading eyes*

I wouldn't mind just a Black Widow movie because I think that still implies that Hawkeye should still be attached to it! So they can call it whatever they want as long as the two of them are still involved.

Of course, if they EVER pull an Elektra on me ever, ever again, I'm gonna be PISSED!

I've run across lots of people freaking out about Captain America 2, because of Bucky, and apparently, comic!canon which is Bucky/Natasha? Do we know anything about this, or is it just bunch of people freaking out without a solid reason? (I was under the impression that movie!verse and canon!verse are different).
[identity profile] sunny-serenity.livejournal.com on July 16th, 2012 05:02 am (UTC)
i was wondering the same, but the mcu seems to be drawing from the comic!canon as inspiration more than actual BIBLE-ing, as i like to call it. fer instance: when natasha does the cognitive recalibration on clint in the movie, in comic!canon it was actually ivan, her guardian/saviour, that she knocked out cos he'd been brainwashed.

if all else fails remember the number one rule for comics: we can TOTALLY retcon that later. so there's no need to have a transliteration of comic to movie form.
[identity profile] anuna-81.livejournal.com on July 16th, 2012 06:26 pm (UTC)
I was under the same impression, that comic!verse was more like a source of inspiration and point of reference. BIBLE-ing, I like the word! The example you're citing makes me think taht they might take bits and pieces from comic!verse and mix it up differently. Film, after all, is different media than a comic.

People are most probably freaking out for no good reason.

Bucky/Natasha is a very popular pairing in the comics, but then Clint/Natasha has become very popular too (and is also comic!canon, even if that was a long time ago) and Marvel studios seems to know it. Everything and anything is purely speculation at this point since the script is still being written and even after that nothing is set in stone. That Natasha is even appearing in the movie is speculation. I think freaking out is jumping the gun since absolutely nothing is known about what they will and won't include in the movie, and the movie is two years away in any case.

My concern would be if they reduced Natasha to 'Winter Soldier's ex-girlfriend' and we got a love triangle. Only female Avenger in the centre of love triangle= do not want.

Well, there seemed to be lot of headless chicken mentality if you know what I mean. It doesn't seem very logical (to me at least), setting up C/N and then breaking it into pieces.

Completely agreed re triangle. Do not want. Especially if Natasha should be in it.
[identity profile] sunny-serenity.livejournal.com on July 16th, 2012 04:57 am (UTC)
ugh. i hate hank pym. WHY ARE YOU GIVING HIM A MOVIE MARVEL? oh, that's right cos this world thinks it's acceptable to reward misogynistic pompous assholes who beat on women and think they've done no wrong. that type of thinking should always be rewarded. [/sarcasm]

in other news: if they're doing the winter soldier story are they getting rid of the alexi/red guardian backstory for natalia? cos they're pretty hot and heavy partnering in that title right now. and what does that mean for clint? is he regulated to the angsty part of the triangle, if it comes to that? i am not a hipster. i HATE triangles.
