This evening, I found out that a dear member of our community [personal profile] crazy4orcas passed away earlier this month after a two year battle with cancer.

I was lucky that I got to meet her in person a few years back and we got to hang out, and see a play, and just generally be goofy together. She was always thinking about others and the little things they would enjoy and her fics and collages were lovely little love letters to her friends.

She is going to be so very missed by this community.

Please hug your loved ones and your friends a little closer and tell them you love them when you can.

Oh my god Cassie! Oh my god! I - don't even know what to say. I'm so sorry. I had no idea. Orcas was so lovely. Shit. *huge hugs*

Man, she would always comment on all my fics, and she would be so enthusiastic and supportive and it was always a joy to see her username on a post because she was always so positive. She'll be missed so much. <3

This! Even when she'd betad a fic or seen it well in advance, she'd still be the first person to leave an excited message on it. She was just overflowing with enthusiasm.

Orcas was one of the first names I knew by heart in this fandom. She was one of the first to leave comments on my stories, always encouraging and positive.
Rest well, Orcas. Sending good thoughts towards your loved ones.

Thank you for letting us know Cassie *hugs*

I didn’t know her well, but Orcas was so lovely to everyone and she always made me smile. I have good memories of her joining in comm events, leaving positive and encouraging comments for people, writing one of my fav fics (Maps), and her joy in sharing the happy things, like whenever someone sent her anything whale related - I can never see a whale photo or gif without thinking 'Orcas would like that!' What a blow and a sad time <3

I’m so sorry to hear about her passing. Her name was also one of the first that I would recognized both on the comm and on comments. Condolences to her family and friends.

I was assigned to her both years I managed to participate in the Secret Santa exchange, and I couldn't have wished for a more enthusiastic and encouraging recipient. One of her prompts also inspired the first fic I ever wrote... It's strange, feeling so sad for a person one never met in real life. But that's because she was such a warm presence, that it was nice just knowing that such a person existed somewhere in the world.
You will be missed, and remembered.

Orcas was such a warm, loving, indispensable part of our cozy little corner of fandom. I will forever cherish her stories, her comments, and the collages she gifted me for some of my stories - footprints of the positivity she left wherever she went. Rest easy, Kim.
