Some Iron Man and Thor news...
Kat Dennings is back for Thor 2! WOO! (Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] redbrunja for the heads-up. Yay flist!)

Also, someone over at AICN got a look at the Iron Man 3 trailer and has a description. Velly interesting. It's all under the cut for those that want to avoid anything of a spoilerish nature.

I was most intrigued by this:

It also falls in line with the type of Iron Man movie that Shane Black has previously stated he intends to make: one that functions more like a grounded espionage thriller than a whimsical superhero film. Finally, the tone set in that Iron Man 3 trailer also falls in line with what we here at Screen Rant have speculated about at great length: that films like IM3 and Captain America 2 will present more grounded, real-world stories (and grittier tones), in order to balance out the wild sci-fi aspects of upcoming “Marvel Cosmic” movies like Thor 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy.

That sounds to me like a perfect opportunity to add some SHIELD folks into the mix. Still waiting on any casting confirmation for Scarlett or Renner in Cap 2 though. I'm glad that the execs are at least thinking this through enough to realize "Hey, we've got a lot of wacky space stuff going on (plus Ant Man) with characters nobody cares about. Maybe we should also have a few storylines where shit actually gets real."

At least, until we get our Black Widow movie.

**CUE PRAYER CIRCLE**

Have I mentioned lately that I love everyone in this bar? 'Cause I do. Happy Wednesday, y'all.

Ugh, I seriously need Iron Man to go back to that first movie! That was real right there, very real! I know it's a wacky comic, but OMG! Things need to get hardcore over here! *flails*
[identity profile] workerbee73.livejournal.com on August 22nd, 2012 02:42 pm (UTC)
It sounds like that's where they're headed, and maybe even darker. I'm excited! I'm all for gritty and grouded (and espionage is just icing on the cake.) :D
[identity profile] daxcat79.livejournal.com on August 22nd, 2012 02:45 pm (UTC)
Oh yeah, it's totally what attracted me to Black Widow and Hawkeye in the first place, cause they're like the darker heroes with blood on their ledgers! :D

This is why Iron Man is hardcore! Oh yes!
[identity profile] workerbee73.livejournal.com on August 22nd, 2012 04:31 pm (UTC)
I knoooooooooooow! And I don't want Nolan warmed over, don't get me wrong, but having characters with a little bit of a darker spin... yessssssssssss. :)

(raises hand)

I care.

I mean, I love Tash and Clint and SHIELD, don't get me wrong, but...

Rocket Raccoon is AWESOME.

Yeah, Hank Pym is kind of...but Janet Pym is awesome AND he creates Ultron which leads to Vision...Vision kicks ass AND he leads to WANDA!

And I freaking love Wanda, she's the SCARLET WITCH!

I also heard she may play the cello...if Rebecca Hall turned out be Wanda in IM3, I would not oppose this...

I know Maria is in IM3 so I can't imagine NOT having Tasha and/or Clint in Winter Soldier especially with Bucky and all of that...

Then, there's the new SHIELD show which would probably have some of the non-Avengers agents like Sitwell and his new recruits...

*fingers crossed for a prequel/flashbacks/fix it with Coulson*

However, if the new show does do awesomely, that may make them even more encouraged to make an actual, proper SHIELD film with Tasha and Clint and "ma(king) a different call'.

I don't know if anyone else has seen Item 47 yet but it as good as confirms that Coulson taught those under him to "make a different call" when it was the right thing to do.

Hey-- sorry to be dissmissive about Guardians and Ant Man. It's just my residual bitterness over not getting a BW movie and also concern over expanding the universe to include so many new characters when there are plenty (**cough cough** Clint) who still need more screentime devoted to their development. But they did a great job pulling Phase 1 together in the end, so I'm trying to remin hopeful about Phase 2.

What's Item 47?
[identity profile] hufflepuffsneak.livejournal.com on August 22nd, 2012 08:38 pm (UTC)
Us bitter? Never. :P

My concern with Ant-Man is that he doesn't really bring anything to the table in terms of capabilities. The current Avengers are a well-balanced team, I can't see Ant-Man adding much at all. And if they keep adding characters then they might have to split into two teams- and at that point it gets ridiculous.

I hope they can figure out s way to get us Scarlet Witch without having to go through miles of story hoopla though (she, having magic, would actually add something new and different to the team).

I'm intrigued by Scarlet Witch. I'd love to see her find her way into a Marvel film... :)

This is Item 47 if you haven't seen it yet...

Oh gosh I just have so many feelings about all this I don't even know if I can coherently express them.

I just hope all the waiting and waiting and waiting is worth it. From what it says here, it sounds like it will be, but I'm trying not to get too excited yet because it's all just so far away!
[identity profile] workerbee73.livejournal.com on August 22nd, 2012 04:30 pm (UTC)
I hope the waiting is worth it too! I'm crossing my fingers that they have a really solid master plan in place. Right now all the pieces feel kind of out there, but hopefully it will all come together. :)
[identity profile] i-llbedammned.livejournal.com on August 22nd, 2012 06:24 pm (UTC)
Grittier and more real world, why that sounds like the perfect time to bring in a Black Widow/Hawkeye movie.

I know, right? :D :D :D

think we should make a petition for a black widow movie. oh and thanks for saying kat dennings would be in it i wasnt sure if she was going to be. *sigh* i love thor. he's so pretty. byeeee!
[identity profile] workerbee73.livejournal.com on August 22nd, 2012 07:10 pm (UTC)
I would totally sign such a petition. Why isn't there one already I wonder?
[identity profile] rosabelmay2.livejournal.com on August 22nd, 2012 08:27 pm (UTC)
it's a conspiracy. that is why the people at marvel or where ever has the avengers and all the participants movie rights have not already and have not announced a black widow movie. It is the ONLY logical explination. That or red room is real and they are threatening them with nukes that if they make a movie of black widow and out them they will kill america/all the world minus russia.
[identity profile] hufflepuffsneak.livejournal.com on August 22nd, 2012 08:41 pm (UTC)
Maybe they get off on burning money? It's pretty obvious that a Black Widow movie would make a ton.

Also I LOVE KAT DENNINGS. *dances at news*

[identity profile] rosabelmay2.livejournal.com on August 22nd, 2012 08:45 pm (UTC)

Me too! :D

I'm super happy to hear about the Iron Man movie. I mean the second one was entertaining but the first one was actually good and I hope they go back down that road.

I'm hoping they do put Black Widow in Cap2. I think they are probably hesitant to have her lead because female led movies don't have the best track record. I remember reading an Entertainment Weekly article with the Avengers about that. Joss Whedon mentions that Angelina Jolie is the only major exception. Most of the times they are just ridiculous, cheesy movies and not made well which feeds into nobody seeing them. I liked that he pointed out that hopefully The Hunger Games helped changed that a little. A strong, female can lead a movie. I think Marvel is going to continue to test the waters before they sign on her as a lead. Same goes for a Hawkeye film. Unfortunately I think Legacy didn't do well enough to justify Renner starring in a film, but I think they are probably eager to keep putting him in supporting roles. I want them to each get their own movie, but at this point I doubt it.

Unfortunately I think Legacy didn't do well enough to justify Renner starring in a film

I've been watching the box office on Legacy (no SRSLY, checking Box Office Mojo daily!). Estimates are that the movie cost $125 million to make, and it looks like it will probably hit that this weekend in worldwide box office. After two and a half weeks in the theaters it's currently at $73 million US and $100 million total. And the movie hasn't even opened everywhere in the world yet. So once they make back the marketing budget (haven't seen estimates on that, but I suspect it was high) Bourne Legacy is definitely making money for the studio. And that's a big deal for the fourth movie in a franchise. Not to mention a franchise where they replaced the lead actor.
[identity profile] workerbee73.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 01:51 pm (UTC)
I've heard mixed messages on the numbers so far. I know they're pretty happy with how it opened, but I also get the sense that they're still waiting before greenlighting another. But as a fourth film and a reboot it's done very well. It's such a strange situation that it seems really hard to figure out what a 'success' looks like.
[identity profile] brickhousewench.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 02:23 pm (UTC)
Yeah, as the fourth movie in a franchise where they replaced the lead actor, it's the sort of movie that seems doomed to fail. But on the other hand, the PTB really want this movie to be a success so that they can keep making Bourne movies and making money off them. Because after the box office there are DVD sales and TV contracts etc. And they definitely wrote the movie so that there are several different directions they could go in a sequel (for example, we only saw five of the six Outcome agents. Where is Outcome #2?)

My suspicion is that they'll greenlight another movie. But not for another month or two after they get some idea of how this one is performing in the long run.
[identity profile] workerbee73.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 02:35 pm (UTC)
That sounds about right. I'm just crossing my fingers that they greenlight another. :D
[identity profile] brickhousewench.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 03:13 pm (UTC)
Oh honey, you are NOT the only one twisting your fingers into pretzels over this movie. PRAYER CIRCLE TIME!
[identity profile] workerbee73.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 04:27 pm (UTC)
Circle up, my friend. Circle up. ;)
[identity profile] chrisfaithalin.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 05:18 pm (UTC)
I had no idea it was doing that well overseas. All the articles I've read is that it hasn't had that impressive of an opening in U.S. That's a good point about it doing well especially for a fourth movie. I really hope they are making money off of it because I want another Bourne movie with him so bad.
[identity profile] workerbee73.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 01:52 pm (UTC)
I think Marvel is going to continue to test the waters before they sign on her as a lead.

I hope that's the strategy. They'd be crazy to just dismiss the idea based on past performance.
