The Awkward Moment When iTunes Has Better Extras than the DVD
Or, a comparison of the different extras on different versions of the Avengers DVD.

Sharing the love so you know which version you'd like to buy of the movie. Also, keep in mind that this is the region 1 DVD/Blu-ray, and I'm using the Canadian iTunes, so other iTunes stores may vary. I'm personally going to buy the iTunes version.

Huh. That's good to know. I have to change my order; I see the region 2 DVD I pre-ordered has only the Visual Journey and the commentary. And I wanted it mostly for the extras...
[identity profile] book-junkie007.livejournal.com on August 22nd, 2012 07:50 pm (UTC)
I wanted it for the deleted scenes as well, and I don't have a Blu-Ray player, which I think is where the majority of the extras are. Marvel.com is really promoting the Blu-Ray release, which makes me think that it's the Blu-Ray which got all the extras.

Argh, I think I have to go change my pre-order on Amazon now.

ummm, u guise?
...what do they mean by viaduct fight? the only fight that comes mind is um.....well, you know...

Re: ummm, u guise?
*blinks* I actually have no idea. Maybe that's an excuse to go see the movie again. ;)

Re: ummm, u guise?
I saw somewhere that the viaduct could be referring to the elevated bridge thingy that Cap and BW and Hawkeye are fighting on during the battle so maybe that's it. Bu the BW/H fight was also kind of on a catwalk bridge thingy so I dunno...

(either way, it looks like moar of our peeps. woo!)

Yes, but sadly, I want the briefcase with tesseract that contains all the SHIELD files including Phil, Natasha and Clint...

"Just take my money!"

Well, at least on Amazon it's just 139.96

decisions, decisions
At the moment in the UK I can only find a DVD, which is the basics, a blu-ray (which has no DVD combo) with all the extras, and then the 6 film box sets are the same - blu-ray has the extras. I want the extras. I do not have a blu-ray player. So, I could get the standard and hope someone in the family gets the blu-ray, then play the blu-ray on someone else's blu-ray player... Can't find it on our iTunes yet.

As it is I kind of shot myself in the foot, because I've waxed lyrical about the Avengers so much that my Mum said she's getting it for me for Christmas and it's the only thing she knows to get me for Christmas. On the downside, I have to wait just under another four months, on the plus side that gives me time to work out what version I want and they have more money than me, so if they bring out a blu-ray and dvd combo before Christmas...

Mind you, the dream is that that re-release an extended directors cut for Christmas ;D

Is anybody else kind of wondering if they are going to come out with a director's cut? I am hesitant to buy now because for some reason the special features seem skimpy to me. I mean there had to be a lot of parts that went into this film and they knew it was going to be big, it seems like they would have put together more featurettes. And I know Joss Whedon was quoted about how his original cut of the movie was close to three hours.

I buy movies right when they come out so rarely; I usually wait for a sale. The couple times I've done it...Serenity comes to mind, I got burned when they came out with an even better edition eventually. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I think I'm going to hold off a little and make sure there isn't some ultimate edition eventually.

Yeah, I'm starting to think I might wait for that too. Three hours, really? Sounds like that'd be worth waiting for...
[identity profile] chrisfaithalin.livejournal.com on August 22nd, 2012 09:48 pm (UTC)
Yeah, there were a lot of rumors floating around that they were going to release the extended cut in theaters, but I guess they didn't go forward. At least 40 minutes of stuff was cut. One site was reporting that Joss Whedon said his original cut was three hours. Here's one of the articles that talks about it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did, but I'm far too impatient to wait, so I'll be a sucker and buy bluray now and get the extended!super!duper!edition when it comes out (as happened with Serenity :-D).

*peers* Soooo, this means I don't have to buy a blu-ray (without any DVDs) in order to get the extras?

Hopefully?

*crosses fingers as she neither has, nor can afford, a blu-ray player*

I think the Blu-Ray disc is the only version that has the extras, but there is at least an option of having extras on other mediums.

*waits for iTunes to download the series 7 trailer of Doctor Who so she can flip over to the US site to check*

The US iTunes version has the same extras as the Canadian version, so there's an option there for you.

I don't have a Blu-Ray player either, nor do I particularly want one. I don't see the point of spending extra money for a movie or TV show when you can buy it for cheaper or rent it from the library.

Oh, screw them, then. I got confused with the blu-ray/DVD combo thing.

*pause*

I may have Opinions on the studios and companies trying to force people to spend more money just to get extra things.

*scowls* Right, then. Ugh.
[identity profile] dalaire.livejournal.com on August 22nd, 2012 11:56 pm (UTC)
It's quite tempting, but I'm sticking with the regular DVD. I'm thinking that I've got my satisfaction with what can be gleaned online or borrowed from a friend at a later date, and that eventually, they'll release a monster box set of one iteration or another with everything I want, that will cost an arm and a leg and will be entirely worth the trouble.

Or, if I'm wrong, I'll just go back and get the extras via iTunes or the like. For now, I'll be content with just seeing the movie again...and again. :^)

I went with the big pack so I could get the tesseract. It's already bought and paid for. Any extras I miss will be on YouTube so I'm not too worried.

IF a Director's Cut comes out that isn't included, I'll buy it, too. I'm willing to throw money after my passion! *grins*

It's also worth noting that September 25 isn't the international release date. The Australian release is actually August 29.
[identity profile] book-junkie007.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 06:00 am (UTC)
Which is why I stated that the different versions of the movie I had comparisons for were for Region 1, aka Canada and the US. :)
