**cue impromptu dance party**
We have 500 people watching this comm.

Let me say it again: We have 500 people watching this comm. And 442 members.

On May 6, 2012, when this bar was opened, we had 4 (and yes, those four consisted of your beloved mods who saw a little film called Avengers and had some feelings and just wanted a place to find some fic and geek out.)

So, in honor of this momentous occasion, I hereby declare it to be Friday one day early. Bring me your squee, your flail, your randomness, your Renner Problems, your Scarlett Feelings, your team!shawarma love, your pics, your gifs, your thinky thoughts, your what-the-heck-ever you like. Today is a day of jubilee, my friends.

I once had an idea for a story that was something like "Clint Barton's book club" and now I have to root through my tumblr to see what it was about.
[identity profile] earlofcardigans.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 04:58 pm (UTC)
Please do! I love the idea of Clint hosting a book club and getting huffy when aliens attack before he got to his lovingly thought out and super detailed outline of why chapter sixteen is the best of the book FOR REASONS THAT THOR REALLY REALLY NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND OKAY.
[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_samalander/ on August 23rd, 2012 05:02 pm (UTC)
The only note I have is:
"Possible followup to sorrow- the library of Clint Barton
In which tony compares Natasha to a velociraptor, Clint doesn’t do animal jobs, and Steve has an alarming knowledge of 1930s pornography.
Also Thor thinks Katniss is kinda badass, Natasha wants to be Kristy Thomas if she grows up, and Bruce doesn’t appreciate being compared to Dr. Jekyll."

I think there was a plot to it, but I also think I posted it at 2am.
[identity profile] earlofcardigans.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 05:06 pm (UTC)
lol oh Steve.

Does Clint make them read Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? And in return Bruce thinks they should read Water for Elephants?
ext_23250[identity profile] kadollan.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 05:05 pm (UTC)
When this is written (because it must be written) -- can they do some Jane Austen?

PLEEEAAAAAAASSSSSSSEEEEEEEEE?

I need this like air.
[identity profile] earlofcardigans.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 05:11 pm (UTC)
they have an entire Jane Austen month. (which lasts about seven months because alien invasions suck hardcore and everyone but Thor needs a new copy of Persuasion.) and Clint's favorite is Emma because she means well. Steve read them all already, but he'll read them again, because, well he's bored a lot of the time and he likes reading. Tony is UNHAPPY with the prospects of Pride and Prejudice, but he can deal with Sense and Sensibility since it's got soldiers that aren't complete nitwits and it helps facilitate conversation with Steve.

Mostly though, Clint just wants someone to recreate a drawing room and make some tiny damn sandwiches, because otherwise what good is it having a meeting to discuss their progress?
ext_23250[identity profile] kadollan.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 05:13 pm (UTC)
::cackles::

YES, YES a thousand times YES.

Tony hates Pride and Prejudice because he thinks Mr.Darcy is a total dick and starts getting offended at all the significant looks he's getting.

ETA: Formal titles.

[identity profile] earlofcardigans.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 05:18 pm (UTC)
okay okay, maybe he doesn't hate Mr. Darcy, but c'mon. He has the biggest house on the country block and is STILL an ass? Loosen up a little.

Clint tried to talk Natasha into some sort of reenactment scene, maybe with the picnic and shooting targets in Emma (because did he mention favorite?), but Natasha wasn't wearing an idiot dress and sit on the ground for hours.

Pepper would though. And talk Natasha into it. And get Steve to draw them so Clint could hang it in his room and remember the time someone did what he asked.

Except by the time they do all this, they've moved on to Hemingway and the team hates Clint double now.
ext_23250[identity profile] kadollan.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 05:20 pm (UTC)
Oh God, Hemingway. That's the worst. Just, we're drawing the line at Joyce, alright? Man couldn't think in a straight line if you handed him two nails and a piece of string to tie between them.
[identity profile] earlofcardigans.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 05:24 pm (UTC)
Clint knows it's the worst, but they apparently need punishing. HEMINGWAY IT IS. :D

Dude, okay. So there are book club rules, right? And rules of friendship? And the number one of both of those are 'Never inflict Joyce upon the people closest to you. (whether situational or emotional.)'
ext_23250[identity profile] kadollan.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 05:34 pm (UTC)
Steve wants to do Shakespeare, and Thor thinks that's great, because theatre he understands. Tony says that they have to read it aloud or he's not playing, but they call his bluff and star with Much Ado About Nothing, before moving into Othello and then Midsummer Night's Dream. They have to watch the movies, of course, after each play and spend hours arguing over casting and directorial choices (and how could you leave that line out?!?! That line makes the whole scene make sense, Jesus Christ.)

Haha -- do you mind if I friend you?
[identity profile] earlofcardigans.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 05:41 pm (UTC)
Tony's issues with Shakespeare stem from his earliest reading of Julius Caesar. But he will concede Twelfth Night. If only to try and act that one out and have Natasha wearing a reasonable facsimile of his goatee. Steve and Clint are, of course, overjoyed.

:D

Friends yes, let's!

No, no, Joyce is Rule #2. Rule #1 is STEINBECK.

(Rule #3 might be Joseph Conrad. Which might be followed closely by Richard Wright and Ralph Ellison. And I might not be entirely over the trauma of high school English.)

BUT THERE IS NEVER ANY EXCUSE FOR STEINBECK. ALSO NATASHA WILL DECIDE TO DO A DEMONSTRATION AND SHOOT YOU IN THE HEAD AND SEE IF YOU LIKE IT!

Ahem.

Issues, I have them. Heeheehee!
ext_23250[identity profile] kadollan.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 11:13 pm (UTC)
Conrad is the devil.
[identity profile] earlofcardigans.livejournal.com on August 23rd, 2012 11:28 pm (UTC)
The only reason that isn't Rule #1 is because I've completely blocked it from my memory!

But Clint and I will accept this rearrangement and thank you for fixing our oversight. :D :D

AND NATASHA ONLY DOES THE WILLIAM TELL FOR AN AUDIENCE AFTER SHE DRINKS VODKA FROM THAT SPECIAL BOTTLE SHE HIDES FROM EVERYONE. NEVER EVER ASK HER TO DO IT OR GET CLINT TO ASK HER. IT'S DISASTROUS FOR THE WORLD!

I love that you guys are PLOTTING THIS FIC FOR ME when my notes on it from my actual facts notebook were along the lines of:

Tony: Hey Clint?
Clint: Mmm?
Tony: How would you have stopped hte Velociraptors?
Clint: What?
Tony: In Jurassic Park. Be Muldoon.
Clint: I have more than one rocket launcher.
Tony: Oh.
Natasha: Clint doesn't do animal jobs.
Steve: Animal jobs?
Clint: Nothing with poop. It's in my contract.
Bruce: Why didn't I think of that.
Thor: Are you sure these beasts are extinct? I would ride an Apatosaurus like my Father rides Sliepnir.

...LOOK I LIKE JURASSIC PARK OKAY

There should be a reverse Jane Austen Book Club Avengers AU! In the book/movie all the characters are women with one guy - flip it Clint can be the jaded Maria Bello character who just wants his damn book club and takes Jane Austen very seriously to heart and Natasha can be the hip, too cool for school interloper in the book club bro-fest who just doesn't get it. Until, of course, she does ;D

Hmmm, should Steve be the Emily Blunt character? Tony is DEFINITELY the sassy one obv...
ext_23250: Watcher500[identity profile] kadollan.livejournal.com on August 24th, 2012 12:59 pm (UTC)
OH I heart you like a hearting thing that hearts.

I was have very similar thoughts.
[identity profile] xcziel.livejournal.com on August 25th, 2012 07:27 am (UTC)
♥ ♥ ♥ you right back!

only much later because I have the same diurnal schedule as a vampire - from Texas ;D

IDEK my brain just automatically inserts random Avengers into almost all popular media - want to make a TV show/movie/novel even better? 'Just add Avengers!'
ext_23250: Watcher500[identity profile] kadollan.livejournal.com on August 25th, 2012 07:20 pm (UTC)
I like your brain. Tell it to keep doing that.

Also -- that should have said "havING very similar thoughts." Gorram typos.
[identity profile] xcziel.livejournal.com on August 26th, 2012 07:36 am (UTC)
Typos are just your brain's way of telling you that your fingers cannot contain your enthusiasm! Much experience has made me fluent in 'typoese' for I still hunt and peck around the keyboard XD XD

Clint's book club: Just Jane Austen, or should they branch out into some butch Pahlaniuk? Or maybe go with a classic - Last of the Mohicans has a lot of bow and arrow action, yes? Possibly Natasha brings in some Dostoyevsky and impresses everyone! * mutters and pokes headcanon*

And Bruce can come by and suddenly have EMOTIONS about books where he never seems to let himself have feelings and everyone has to flee the room...

I don't know where my sudden Bruce feels came from. Hmmm...
