**cue impromptu dance party**
We have 500 people watching this comm.

Let me say it again: We have 500 people watching this comm. And 442 members.

On May 6, 2012, when this bar was opened, we had 4 (and yes, those four consisted of your beloved mods who saw a little film called Avengers and had some feelings and just wanted a place to find some fic and geek out.)

So, in honor of this momentous occasion, I hereby declare it to be Friday one day early. Bring me your squee, your flail, your randomness, your Renner Problems, your Scarlett Feelings, your team!shawarma love, your pics, your gifs, your thinky thoughts, your what-the-heck-ever you like. Today is a day of jubilee, my friends.

It was absolutely grand!

(And she's being modest - she *won* the D/G Last Drabble Writer Standing. Because she's an awesome fic writer.)

Also I keep meaning to ask our wonderful mods if we can do something like a last drabble writer standing thing at some point once the prompt-a-thon is over...

That sounds awesome-- as soon as you explain what it is exactly. ;D

Oh! Oh! It is the grandest thing!

The one we did is here: [livejournal.com profile] dg_ldws

What it amounts to is you have a certain number of people sign up (I think it usually starts at like 10? Depends on how long you want the round to last.) Once they do, it goes like this. Each week, you get a prompt. All of the participants write a drabble of usually between 100-500 words (but whoever's running it decides). They're posted annonymously at the end of the week and left up for a couple days so people can vote on which ones they like the best. Then the officiants/mods tally up the votes, and the one with the most wins that week, and the one (or two, depends on what you decide the rules are) with the fewest falls out of the competition. The rest continue to the next week and do the same thing. Eventually, one person wins, and is the "last drabble writer standing". It's great fun, and in most communities even non-particpants can post drabbles based on the prompt in a separate thread or something. It's also a writing workout because you get to do all kinds of different things.

And at least with dg-ldws there's also a "mod's choice" that's whichever fic the officiants liked the best each week, regardless of who won on votes.

The mods used lots of different kinds of prompts -- everything from a word or phrase like "Bite" or "The Tower" to a quote, like "Between two evils, I always pick the one I never tried before."

This sounds very cool. Maybe when we recovers from Promptathon and the Second Coming DVD release, we can get cracking on something like this....
