Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters Trailer
The trailer for Jeremy Renner's next film Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters just came out and I thought I would share. If this isn't allowed mods, feel free to take down.

Personally, I'm not really sure about the film and I posted a discussion/rant about it at my lj here. I have way too many thoughts about a stupid 2 minute trailer

Oooh, that sounds really interesting!

A large part of my research focuses on feminist fairy tale reinterpretations, so I can roll with anything. I love The Bloody Chamber and Deathless. And Tender Morsels by Margo Lanagan, which is easily one of the most innovative and scary fairy tale adaptations I've read.

Ahah, thank you! At the moment it's languishing a bit as all the research, ohmygod and then I got distracted by fandom, and then a purely original fantasy world where I'm having fun with species and gender (and then Avengers....), but I'll wander back to my Arthuriana at some point. So much fun. Guinevere is a (Roman, rather than Italian) mafia princess and badass accountant, Mordred's wife orchestrates things to save her family, there are guns and swords and the police wear axes (saxons). I love it. But, it does mean I'm very "la, la, la, continuity and sources are what you make them."

Plus, there are ideas for fairytales - a steampunked Cinderella where her tiny feet actually cause her pain (something I'm very familiar with). Fairytales are so different depending on what you source you read, and then you can reinterupt them and make them their own.

Also, I actually like Van Helsing (thank you for being just about the first movie to actually give Dracula's wives names, personalities, and dynamics) so, I think it'll be ridiculous popcorn silly fun. Plus, Renner and Areton in leather pants. I am so there.

I really need to read Deathless, it just sounds gorgeous and dark. I once borrowed some feminist fairytale books, but I can't remember their names now - they were jut lyrical and awesome.

THAT SOUNDS AWESOME.

Fairy tales have evolved throughout history. The fairy tales most of us were told as children bear very little resemblance to their medieval counterparts (the original Red Riding Hood, good god!). So I'm very much 'anything goes' when it comes to fairy tales.

I enjoyed Van Helsing. Yes, it's ridiculous, but it's fun if you don't take it seriously.
