All the Things Friday: AU day!
Huzzah! We made it to the end of another week. Today we're going to discuss all things AU (alternate universe fics/fanwork), so please share with us:

1.  Your favorite AU fic/fanart, etc.
2.  Ideas for new AU's or comment fic (what would you love to see written? what inspires you?)
3.  Discussion topics: Why think outside the box when it comes to fanwork? What are the benefits of AU's? If you love them, why?

As always, polite anarchy reigns supreme. And above all, this bar is for fun, so make sure you have some. :)

A note on definitions: When I speak of AU, I'm really thinking of a pure AU, as in, a story that exists completely outside the established canon structure (ie, Clint and Natasha as veterinarians, Clint and Natasha hunt vampires, Clint and Natasha in the 18th century, etc.) If a story could plausibly exist within the canon world (is, Clint and Natasha are SHIELD agents or backstory thereto) I don't really think of it so much as AU. I also don't think of butterfly effect stories (ie, "what if we changed one thing in canon and then retold the whole story?") as pure AU's, and I distinguish AU's from crossovers with existing characters in other fandoms. We can discuss both of these categories at a later date; for now, let's try and stick with pure AU's.

Happy Friday, y'all. :)

I don't know what could have gotten me thinking about AU's. NO IDEA AT ALL.

Hi, I am Anuna and I am an AU whore. (also a crossover whore, but that's another issue).

I LOVE AUs. LOVE. Like bounce-in-my-chair-can't-contain-it-LOVE - because we get to tell old stories in new ways, because AUs are great opportunities to explore characters, see who they are outside their standard jobs and roles, research their personalities, and most importantly, build new worlds. Find places for those characters that we love. See how their personalities come alive in a completely different set of circumstances :)

AUs I'd like (to see)? Clint and Natasha in WW 2 (I think [livejournal.com profile] ashen_key wrote something like that during promptathon, Clint/Nat in Indiana Jones type of scenario/roles, wild west AU, medieval AU .... you name it! (I don't like too dark stories, though, so AUs that tend to be too dark usually don't attract me).

I've tried my hand at Clint and Natasha as social workers, which is still waiting unfinished, but that whole world was pretty much thought out.Their complete backstories were there, Clint was awesome while working with teenage delinquents, and Nat had her share of secrets and I won't spoil it in case I decide to finish that story some day.

Right now I'm toying with the Avengers-as-rockband idea. Let's just say that Clint and Nat get to do duets, like Johnny and June.

*lol* A medieval AU is one of my wishes for the secret santa exchange. If that's not what I get I might end up writing it myself. After all my studies have to be good for something. ;)

I use a lot of AU on my art. My fave series is the Wings one. I manipulate everyone that fancy my eyes with wings. They can be white fluffy or black and dark.

Since I'm very very new to this fandom I still have to make one for Clint and one of Natasha. I just manage to download the Blue-ray caps and I'm still sorting through those. but maybe this weekend i'll be able to make Clint. Te easiest for me.

BTW is there a rule about frontal nudity on this Com or can I post just with lots of warning on it?

I am a HUGE sucker for dystopian AUs and fusions with other fandoms.

And, of course, HSAUs. Not that any of you could have guessed that about me.

And here is a WWII AU I wrote in a commentfest on my lj for [livejournal.com profile] sugar_fey:
Natasha vaguely remembers the trains, the boat, the journey. She remembers it as a constant rocking sensation; her seventh year, clutched close to her mama as they moved from place to place, strange languages spit in her face at every stop. She remembers being hungry, always hungry, and being told, when she was handed bread, not to ask what those were. She thinks, now, that they were weevels, sent to eat their grain, and she understands mama's words to Lubya, now, mama saying "They would eat our food, we will eat them instead."

She remembers the stink of Ellis Island, the crowded halls and beds, held close to mama's breast and saying to everyone, over and over, "My Papa is Dead."

She didn't know what Dead was then.

The harsh light of the African sun beats down on the hospital tent, flies swarming around the netting that covers her patients. She sweats through the linen uniform as she moves from bed to bed, taking a pulse here, lending a soothing word there.

She didn't want to be a nurse. Not in a war, and not in Africa, but her people were dying back home, her countrymen of blood and of heart, and she thought it was the least she could do.

The last bed she visits is a new admit, his close-cropped hair growing out, his head wrapped in bandages. She knows this one, Barton, and she can't get over his pluck. His injury is concussive - a misfire of an artillery shell robbed him of most of his hearing and parts of his ears - but he still smiles and laughs and writes her little jokes every day.

He's awake when she gets there, laughter in his eyes, and no blood, today, on his bandages, which she starts to change.

You're pretty, he scrawls on the back on an envelope - one of the many he gets from a woman named Barbara back home, a woman that Natasha doesn't ask about because he might tell her. But to see that on her trinket - Natasha rolls her eyes and keeps her hands busy.

She wonders who he is, Barton, on the days when he's not a soldier. Wonders why he enlisted, if he has any brothers fighting elsewhere. She knows he wears a star around his neck, has an inkling that he's fighting for the same reason she is, for the people he's never met who are dying instead of him.

She lays the fresh bandages across his singed flesh, checking for necrosis as she goes - he's healing cleanly, it seems, but this is not a place to heal.

He hands her another note. Will you go dancing with me? it asks, and she shakes her head and mouths "No."

He looks like she's kicked him, and she supposes that she might have, sort of, but it's his own fault for asking stupid questions.

She shows him her ring for the four hundreth time, the ring that Bucky gave her when they met in Italy the year before. (And then he'd gone off with the Howling Commandos, and she'd gone to Africa, but they'd meet up again, she knew it, so she kept his ring on her finger and hope in her heart.)

Barton shrugs, and she knows what he's thinking, that things change and the man who gave her that is far away and, well, they do and he is, but that doesn't make her promise any less sincere than Barton's was to Ms. Barbara.

She doesn't notice the Chaplain at the front of the tent when she leans in to press an affectionate kiss to Barton's forehead, and he clutches his heart in response, pretending to faint. It's what they do.

"Miss Romanoff?" the chaplain asks, taking off his hat as he steps into the tent, and Natasha looks up.

"Yes?"

"Do you know James Barnes?"

Natasha's heart falls to her knees. Only one reason - no.

She sits hard on Barton's bed, her hand flying to her mouth as she tries to breathe. Barton sits up, lays a hand on her shoulder, and she doesn't even hear the next words, the news of her fiancee - or whatever he is - falling to his death, because she can't hear anything over the rushing silence in her ears.

And an Avengers/Harry Potter fusion I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] lar_laughs, which is kinda an AU, right?

Clint wakes in the dimness of the boy's dorm, Steve's hand on his shoulder.

"Is it time?" he whispers to the older boy, and Steve nods. Silently, Clint dresses, being careful not to wake the other boys in his year - Steve is a 7th year to Clint's 5th, so there are still four sleepers in the room.

The two of them shuffle down the hall to the Hufflepuff common room, big squishy couches and a roaring fire at all hours, but devoid of students now. If Steve wasn't Head Boy, this would be more dangerous, but they do this every month, at the full moon, and they've got a pattern now.

They have to flatten against the wall on their way to the astronomy tower, as they hear Headmaster Fury's tell-talk footsteps, and the soft murmur of Professor Hill's voice, discussing the meeting she's had with some parent or another, but they pass without seeing the boys - or without acknowledging them, you never know with Fury - and it's only a matter of moments before they're racing quietly up the stairs to their meeting.

Bruce and Tony, the resident Ravenclaws, are already there, pointing out constellations and muttering in hushed voices. It's a matter of minutes before Thor and Phil appear in their Gryffindor red robes, and Natasha and Loki pull themselves up from their common room in the dungeon.

Steve begins.

"Well met," he intones, and the others echo his greeting. This part is scripted, and they know it by heart. Now is the history.

"Since the days of the Second Wizarding War and Dumbledore's Army, there have always been students at the ready, to defend our school and remain vigilant. As laid out in the charter, signed by our founders Neville Longbottom and Ginny Weasley, there are two members of each house present tonight. We will preserve the integrity of this fine establishment, and protect our classmates to the best of our ability. May no student ever lose their life in these halls again."

"Never again," the others echo.

"Ravenclaw," Steve says, glancing at Tony and Bruce. "Report?"

They go through the houses, each talking about anything they've seen that might be even a little suspicious.

It's an honor to be an Avenger, to be chosen to represent your house. They keep the memory of those who have come before, and guard the futures of those who are yet to be. And above all, they stay secret. If it were to get out who the Avengers were - well, all the students know they exist, and some have guesses as to the membership, but the counsel only functions when they are trusted by other students, when they can observe unsuspected. It's what makes people like Tony and Loki such valued members - no one would suspect such troublemakers to be Avengers.

Clint gives his report last, as the most junior member, and glances around the circle as Steve calls for analysis and thoughts. In the daylight they're barely even friends, maybe they nod at each other in the hallway, but here, in the dark of night at the top of the Astronomy Tower, they are a Force, unstoppable and eternal.

I desperately want an AU where Clint is a cop, undercover FBI agent or auror and Natasha is a spy, criminal or death eater.

Speaking of AUs, there is a gif set here (http://arrowslinging.tumblr.com/post/32177531427) that is really well done (Avengers as adults in HP universe).

I love steampunk or dystopian type worlds. Or anything postapocalyptic and zombified lol. Also space pirates. Because of reasons.

And crap I may have bunnied myself with a Fireflyfusion.. cuz really: we have a dancer whose brain has been messed with enough that she's been turned into a little killer woman.

Granted I would need all the original cast running around like whoa.. but sheesh that would be too easy.

Right up with the DoomFirefly fusion I kept myself from writing a while back ala a dark haired doctor is trying to keep his sister from a shady corporation that may just have been doing experiments on one or both of the siblings lol.

See this - this is my brain on bunnies.. tis a terrifying place lol

Here's my thinky thoughts on why I don't read AU, yeah I guess I'm going to be THAT person today that is being contrary.

To me what makes a character is their experiences, which informs who they are. Natasha is Natasha because of Red Room, Clint saving her, working for SHIELD etc. When that is taken away, for some reason I feel like you are no longer talking about Natasha but an original character. I first noticed this with Harry Potter and Twilight stories (not going to hide my love for Twilight the books, the movies however are severely mocked by me). When people would write stories without the supernatural element, to me it lost what actually informed the characters. For instance I saw a story that was about Bella being a popstar and Edward was her bodyguard and they were humans. Edward is not Edward if he wasn't changed into a vampire and didn't come from early 1900s. It to me doesn't make sense. With actual human characters, it's a little more understandable to me, but still it just usually comes off as too distant from canon.

Not to say I hate the stories or the authors. I just choose to not read it because for some reason, in my head, it comes off as original characters. I would rather read it as purely an original story, which I've been known to do, rather than consider it fanfiction. I do have a lot of respect for AU writers because I think it takes a lot of creativity to make something so different from canon. In some ways it takes more skill to write a high quality AU than regular ff story.

The AU I like is ones that still are within the realm of possibility but are significantly different than canon. I sometimes like non-canon pairing (I wrote a massive Jasper/Bella Twilight story) or the ones that if you changed a significant event how would that change other things. As long as it could happen within the canon universe, I'm usually happy.

I guess to sum up, pure AU is not my jam and please don't hate me for it (I know people won't actually hate me because this bar is awesome).
[identity profile] shadoedseptmbr.livejournal.com on October 5th, 2012 08:59 pm (UTC)
I'm with you on complete AU's for the most part. And for the same reason. If you take them so far out of context, they cease to be...who they were that made them interesting, I guess. I have read one or two really SPECTACULAR ones *eyes [profile] bob5fic*. But...please all of you are free to change my mind! *kisses*

Also, have I missed a Clint/Natasha with Clint running a coffeehouse or are those just more of a Clint/Coulson thing?

*delurking becuase I love AUs so damn much* Hello...

AUs basically own my soul. They never used to, really, and I kind of still don't always get them - but I love them. For me it's about taking a character out of their surroundings and trying to still make them be them, y'know? No matter how different their circumstances, there's always that character baseline, and I like that.

My current plot bunny is a Prohibition-era AU; I haven't got very far, beyond Clint as a bootlegger who possibly works for Tony, and Natasha being secretly behind everything, because that is just how she rolls. Also maybe Steve as an Untouchable. Now all I have to do is learn more about bootlegging, so I can actually write it...

OH, AUS.

I am going 'woe' at your ~pure AU definition, as canon-y!AUs are fun and eat my brain, but I have plenty of the others. Ahahah, oh, god, do I ever.

1) steampunk!19thcentury!AU inspired by the ficathon: Clint is rescued from execution during the Mexican-American war (was American soldier, deserted to the Mexican side due to Various Reasons) by SHIELD, Natasha is a Russian serf who was rescued from an illegal marriage by her lord and is trained as a ballerina. Nine years later, in 1856, Natasha kills her (new) lord and steals some tech and goes on the run, Clint and Coulson run after her to get the tech back; she ends up being recruited due to the 'why not' factor and also the 'semi-steady income that does not involved working the dance-hall circuit in Europe' factor; they save the world against HYDRA. Yaaaaaay. *facepalms* I have the start where not-dead-Clint wakes up post-hanging and Coulson is talking to him, and a shitton of notes. The C/N angle ends with Natasha informing Clint that he has permission to court her.

1) b) except then some years later, when they are married with kidlets and doing SHIELD things, Clint gets damsel-in-distressed like in canon, and Natasha goes to get him back and comes to the realization that she's actually in love with her husband, and feels mildly embarrassed that she's only just realized.

2) First WWII!AU: After the War, which everyone keeps poking me about writing the bigger story. <.<

>.>

Clint as a paratrooper! Raised-in-England Natasha working at Bletchely! Hijinks! (And then, later, in the 1950s, Peggy recruits at least Natasha into SHIELD, and Natasha is going 'oh god thank you get me out of the house')

3) Second WWII!AU! Which was a prompt in the kinkmeme, where the Avengers gang come together in WWII and Natasha is a Soviet spy (I...do not have enough brain this morning to battle wikipedia to work out who is in control of military intelligence at that point, but she's not KGB yet) and Clint is American sniper. That one, I decided, ends with Natasha being all 'COME BACK TO THE USSR WITH ME' at the end of the war, and Clint (who frankly capitalism has done no favours, but mostly doesn't care, and there is Natasha being idealistic and he loves her) goes 'sure'.

4) 1920s!AU, which I firmly blame the picture someone put up in be_comp of Clint shooting people in some sand-dunes next to some ruins, and giving me the Mummy-vibes. So, Natasha (a former ballerina who escaped Russia during the revolution) bumps into Clint (former French Foreign Legion) in, say, Casablanca in 1926, and they end up hooking up and travelling around the Mediterranean and doing shady things. Natasha earns money from card games, and so does Clint, although Clint might also do hit-jobs on the side? I haven't worked it out yet. But I firmly blame ALL OF YOU for that idea.

5) - actually, my third WWII thing will fit in with canon, it just involved reincarnation, so nevermind.

6) Natasha is of House Romanov and a spy-triller writer; Clint is a former army-ranger and current history professor (he likes the Crusades; that's his historical playground, he got interested after fighting in Operation Desert Storm); it's a prompt on the ficathon that makes me giggle and one day, I'll have more words than snarky Natasha POV setting up her history.

...

I THINK THAT IS EVERYTHING, OH GOD *head.desks.*
Ashen Key: London town[personal profile] ashen_key on October 5th, 2012 11:50 pm (UTC)
WAIT NO: I mentioned it above, but

7) Firefly!AU - No Straight Lines - Clint used to work for the government/Alliance, was sent after escaped Academy!Natasha, and instead they went on the run together. Now they are on Steve and Tony's ship, with Clint as a the pilot. Want to write more in this 'verse, but that'd require rewatching Firefly.

8) Clint and Natasha as SPN!style hunters - there is still a Red Room, but Nat chooses hunting to make up the whole 'learning how to summon demons' mess as soon as she gets out, and that's where she meets Clint. And then they run around together BEING MORE COMPETENT THAN THE WINCHESTERS because that's how they roll, and Natasha is a thief on the side to help pay the bills (as well as just picking up random jobs when they stay for a few months somewhere) and Clint is also a human contract-killer + random jobs. I see them at the end choosing to retire while they are both in one piece, and they set up a hunter!bar somewhere and are a hub of information and support. So far, I've written...sorta-smut for it! Yay.

...

I have too many fics in my head *facepalms*

musings, lots of recs, some fic hopes (1)
I like AUs. I also like crossovers and what ifs. I think they're fun ways of getting to the essence of a character. Yes, experiences make people who they are, but then I'm curious as to what remains when those characters have different experiences, or the same experiences in different contexts, and what that makes them. (To be fair though, I'll read anything that's well-written and makes me believe in the premise. Bring me all the stories!)

As a general thing I see AUs as the characters from the Avengers placed in other contexts, even the 'verses of other fandoms. It's when they start interacting with characters from other fandoms that I'd call it a crossover. I know a lot of fics where the Avengers are still in the Avengers 'verse but some things are different to 'canon' (that mysterious thing that even Marvel is unsure of *cough*) are labelled as AUs, but I tend to think of those as more 'what ifs'. So fics from [livejournal.com profile] flying_android's Bows and Catapults (PG) which might possibly have happened to fics like gyzym's The Only John Wayne Left In This Town (Teen and Up) which obviously haven't happened, but, you know, could and would fit...I'm leaving those to one side. (*cough*sneakyrecs*cough*)

Some of my favourite Avengers AUs then, that focus on Clint/Natasha:

History's Mistakes by [livejournal.com profile] bob5fic (link goes to LJ tag; alternative link listing parts) R+, warnings/triggers: Smut and general inappropriateness. Mentions of deliberate self harm. Summary: Clint is a college professor and Natasha is his student. Is there anyone not reading this? The realism bites, the sex steams, and the story grabs you by the heart and refuses to let go.

30 Seconds of Mindless Panic by [livejournal.com profile] _samalander (link goes to AO3) THE Modern High School Theatre AU series that starts with Naked Pantomime In The Dark where Clint Barton is drafted into the theatre department, a well known fic in these parts for good reason, continues with two more stories with a Steve/Tony focus, and has a fourth installment with the summary A Coda: On the life and times of Clint and Natasha. (Series ranges from G to Explicit - check each story for rating and warnings)

the waters and the wild by [livejournal.com profile] ashen_key (link goes to AO3) was written for the promptathon and is, hands down, one of the best fairy tale AUs of anything ever. Rated Mature, warnings/triggers: murder, horror, undead. Summary: The girl in the water opens her eyes, and they are glowing green with witch-fire. *points to icon*

Clint Barton, Vampire Slayer by [livejournal.com profile] flying_android was another fic written for the promptathon (link goes to prologue on LJ). Rated R, warnings/triggers: violence, sexual content. Summary: The adventures of Clint Barton, Vampire Slayer. Or, how to be a Slayer while working for SHIELD and with the Avengers. Yes, the Avengers exist in this fic, but this is not a The Only John Wayne Left In This Town type of AU, it's a fusion with Buffy The Vampire Slayer that is wonderfully Whedonesque and I can't praise it enough.

Brown and Gold by [livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch (link goes to AO3) I confess was for one of my prompts at the promptathon - it's a Dragonriders of Pern fusion that is spot on, which I rambled on about at the promptathon here :) but basically, if you like theme of Natasha reclaiming herself, if you like Clint being extraordinary for what he does with what he has rather then for being extraordinary, and if you'd like to see Natasha learning what it means to be truely accepted as only someone chosen by a dragon can, then this is a fic for you.

Re: musings, lots of recs, some fic hopes (2)
The promptathon was great for AUs: we also had olympics from [livejournal.com profile] lar_laughs (PG13) and working at a pharmacy (PG13, some language), [livejournal.com profile] anuna_81 wrote them as social workers (PG13, warning for child abuse), [livejournal.com profile] workerbee73 delivered noir (PG13), and I'm sure there are others that I'm missing. To the promptathon!

Speaking of noir AUs, the one that got away by [livejournal.com profile] bob5fic is very wow.

scargeear on deviant art has fanart of all the Avengers as in the 2012 Olympics - this link goes to Natasha but also has links to all the others. Fun!

The Avengers as Avenging Angels fanart by azriel on tumblr. Gorgeous and just begging for a fic ;)

And I had Harry Potter fussion AUs fanart and fics, but they seem to have wandered off, into the depths of my bookmarks collection or the far reaches of the internet. Sorry about that.

As for AU fic ideas, I need to have a fic finishing month *shakes head at self*.
1) His Dark Materials fusion combining two prompts from the promptathon - Natasha is a witch with a Black Widow daemon and Clint is a hunter from the north with a hawk daemon. There is muder and hopefully some intrigue.
2) A Firefly fusion. I'm finding the chatter about matching Avengers characters to Firefly characters above interesting, because instead of my brain matching characterisations I thought about what roles a successful crew would need to be filled and which roles each Avengers character would best suit.
3) Circus AUs. Many of them. Many.
4) And other AUs from promptathon prompts, but the first three are the ones eating my brain and that I WILL FINISH, I WILL :)

does anyone want to write an office spouses-esque AU for me? like you know, boring, bureaucratic work in a cubicle farm but they're flirty and snide and hang out together? and maybe secretly like each other but figure it would never work out? not to mention how awkward it would be to work together afterwards?

(i feel like i just partially described jim and pam on the office which did not really provide any buoyancy to my watercraft - i'm thinking something slightly darker...maybe more like office space? haha)

i've actually played around with writing this, i just couldn't get it to go anywhere.
[identity profile] rollingplains.livejournal.com on October 6th, 2012 03:04 am (UTC)
or even like an office crush - idk...one likes the other, the other's oblivious, some other cliche like that.

Read ALL the AUs. Seriously though, I love them. HSAUs are probably one of my favourite. Followed shortly by Hogwarts AUs. Though that's really because Harry Potter will forever be my first love. And then, because I nitpick everyone else's HP fic (cause yeah, I have very specific ideas about sorting, and dammit please get the magic right), me and [livejournal.com profile] sevengiraffes have started writing our own. But other than that, I love love love AUs. I started posting one to the kinkmeme. It had zombies, but I failed at getting any further.

But one of the things I love the most about Clint/Natasha, is that, because realistically we have very little canon information (or what we do have is contradictory) every fic really is some sort of AU. And it's wonderful, and continues to spark my imagination. ♥

aw, man. i missed the party this week. rawr. anyway, AUs. i saw steampunk being thrown around and figured everyone would get a kick out of this one. it takes a lot of cue's from the movie so it's much more gen with undertones of clint/natasha (some tony/steve, if your into that) but it's really well constructed and full of world building.

Finally made it to the party.
I love AU's. I love the sense of possibility, I love the freedom, I love getting to explore familiar characters in strange and interesting landscapes. Characterization is key. It only works if the characters still act and feel familiar. When that's done well, when callbacks to canon are used effectively, AU's can become a gorgeous canvas for exploring different aspects of characterization. I love love love AU's.

[livejournal.com profile] inkvoices already put together an amazing list, and I second all those recs. I just have a few more to add:

Queen of Attolia Prequel by [livejournal.com profile] hufflepuffsneak
Part 1 (http://be-compromised.livejournal.com/60569.html?thread=1583769&#t1583769)
Part 2 (http://be-compromised.livejournal.com/60569.html?thread=1584025#t1584025)
Part 3 (http://be-compromised.livejournal.com/60569.html?thread=1584537#t1584537)
He is the Thief
She is the Queen
He breaks into her palace
She cuts off his hand
He steals her heart

I have no knowledge of the source material and I still love the hell out of this. I'm not opposed to begging for more.

(Mythos Academy AU/fusion)
Good thing, I know I was built for the war
I was built to be all yours

Again, no knowledge of the source material, but I love the hell out of this idea and I want moar. **bats eyelashes**

Part 2 (http://be-compromised.livejournal.com/60569.html?thread=2360217#t2360217)
When he left the Army, Clint Barton never thought he’d end up finding his calling hunting monsters. But then, he never thought the brilliant, cursed and sinfully gorgeous teenager he saved from insanity would become his lover, either.

This is a peek into such a fascinating world. I'd love to see the rest.

Wild West AU. Gorgeous. Go read it.

Clint's a country singer with a dark past, haunted by the memory of the one who got away. This one's just getting going, but I've seen the preview of what's come and let me just say Oh Hell Yes. :)

humanity (n): a state of grace (http://sweetwatersong.livejournal.com/4994.html) by [livejournal.com profile] sweetwatersong
Clint Barton, Vampire Hunter. Guess who he's sent to kill?
This is a beautifully realized and detailed magical world, with our beloved assassins thrown into a conflict much bigger then either of them can imagine. Will friendship and trust (and perhaps something more) bloom in the most unlikely of partnerships?

I <3 AUs. SO,so much. I'm also in the "it's a puzzle to take out the core personality from the ways it's been shaped by the circumstances of a particular life or universe and see what you get" camp.

There are so many possibilities! I have developed a real love of Daemon-verse AUs, even though I haven't read the original books. Harry Potter-verse AUs are always fun, too.
