looking for a place to start  
y'know how there's been much lamentation over not getting a black widow movie in phase 2 of marvel's MCU? i figure one way we, as fans, can lay the groundwork for that is by voting for johannson in the people's choice awards. part of the spiel they float for these movies is that they went with fan favourites (even though we know a lot of that is bullshit cos it mostly has to do with who holds the rights and other hollywood business shenanigans. and, if that's the case, then why is there no current black widow title anywhere in the marvel publishing house? she's the only one out of the cast of the avengers movie that doesn't have her own current book.) anyway, our voice could be heard if we vote the crap out of The Face of Heroism category. it couldn't hurt.

And yes, that kind of voting can have an impact. That said, I think conventional Hollywood wisdom still has it that women don't cut it as crowd draws for action movies (Ripley being the notable exception). Why I vote religiously, a couple of times a day, for Scarlett AND Jeremy in the "best onscreen chemistry" category at the PCA ... ;-)

I read a paper about women lead films. The results were surprising: adjusting for budget (and maybe advertising?) films with women in the lead make just as much as films with men in the lead. I think if they make a good action movie, or at least a fun action movie, people will come. And if they think they're going to make more money from an Ant-Man film than a Black Widow film then they're on crack.

I've voted a few times, but I can't help but think internet polls don't mean much, except as an excuse not to a movie (e.g. "Anne Hathaway won the Faces of Heroism. I guess we don't need to do a Black Widow movie" instead of "There should be both a Catwoman AND a Black Widow movie"). Fingers crossed I'm wrong.

I'm going to be shallow and wonder how the frak chose some of these pictures on PCA voting. Some are okay, but some are O_o

Voted for Scarlett and our pair!I know it doesn't happen very often, but sometimes fans can make a difference. :)
