Hello you rainbow people!
Hey everyone!

I hope it's all right to just go ahead and post like this - if not, just shout at me, I can take it.

I am brand-spanking new to the fandom and, therefore, the community. I've always had it in the back of my mind to get my teeth into the Avengers fandom (especially Clint/Natasha), but kinda never dared to. But after a recent Avengers rewatch, I just had to. Not to mention the fact that I watched basically every Renner movie under the sun this weekend ... Momma needs MOA Renner/Clint.

But first, maybe a bit more about me? Am 24, from Germany and/or England (It's a bit confusing ...), started out eons ago in the HP fandom (Yahoo groups and shipping wars for the win!), high-jacked myself through the Pirates, Doctor Who and Buffy fandom (and a LOT of other little ones on the side ...) and recently got a little too involved in everything Nathan Fillion (And if Whedon doesn't give him a role in Avengers 2, I'm gonna do ... things) and, well. I love my movies and my TV Shows with a passion xD So, 'nuff 'bout meself :P

To get my bearings in a new fandom, I typically start off with reading fic and hence - it would be absolutely brilliant if you guys could rec me some of the "classics" of this couple. I've had a nosey, but haven't really found anything long to really get lost in - maybe you guys can help?

I love my fics long and twisted and emotional and dark and fluffy and smutty and ... just, you know, EVERYTHING! (Me? Demanding? Nah, neva!) So is there fic out there that is all kinds of long and twisted?

I don't really care about the setting. It can be pre-movie (Budapest, anyone?), AU (I read this one Highschool AU that was BRILLIANT!) or post-movie - everything goes (Uh, well written baby-fic ... it's an unhealthy addiction!)! :D So uhm ... yeah, just throw it all at me :D

Also - I might already be in love with this community. Considering how everything seems to be rainbows and unicorns and nothing hurts (This comm, I like it! ANOTHER!) so .. WEEEE, super excited to be here!

*hugs and rainbow-coloured cupcakes for everyone!*

distel

PS: no, I haven't got proper iconage yet, am on the hunt :P

Welcome to the fandom! Please enjoy this complimentary coupon for the bar. *hands coupon*

If you want awesome fic that's long I'd check out White Blank Page (http://archiveofourown.org/works/503738?view_full_work=true)... it's pretty hardcore.

History's Mistakes (http://bob5fic.livejournal.com/68017.html) is great for smuttage... def, but really just read ALL of Bob's stuff, cause it's all good. ;)

Also workerbee has an epic story Five Times (http://workerbee73.livejournal.com/150481.html) that you will looooooove... we all do. :)

Yeah, free booze! XD and thanks for the brilliant recs! Uh I love a new fandom! It's all so.shiny and exciting :D

yeah, everything that bob5 and workerbee (rapidly becoming known as the Duo of Maniacal Eeevvviiilll) have written, seperately and together. Seriously, we've already had a memorial Zombie Walk for all the members of this bar who've had their brains destroyed by their fics. (there's even an icon or two around the place)

But really? No one around here writes bad fic. No one around her recs bad fic either. So just rummage around here and you're safe ;-)
[identity profile] purely-distel.livejournal.com on December 3rd, 2012 06:12 pm (UTC)
Zombie by fic? Zombie walks? Why has no one before told me of the awesome that is happening around here? Damn, this all sounds brilliant! Community fun zombie times ftw :D thanks for the brilliant welcome :D

I second everything that has been said before :) Also, everyone is really good about the tagging, so I'd suggest to check the tag list for something that fits your fancy ->

You can find everything there, the rec posts are epic and really, there is no bad fic here :) And trust me, I have read almost all that's been posted here ;) I live in the tags list, so to speak ;)

But if you are looking for great Clint!centric fanfic, check out everything by alphaflyer, all her stuff is on ff.net.

Aye sir, yes sir, thank you sir! :D no, really. This has hardly been posted an hour and look at you people sharing the love *grins*

I have never been called a rainbow person before. I quite like it. Plus, you can never go wrong with cupcakes. Guten Tag! Welcome.

If I had to rec a few classics, I'd always start with gyzym's we were emergencies (http://archiveofourown.org/works/405828), as that one regularly blows me away (rated explicit, lots of triggers for past violence and mind control, also smut). If you're looking for a good mission!fic with competent Clint/Natasha, the third in hellseries' Resilience series, Silently, Invisibly (http://archiveofourown.org/works/539822/chapters/958928), is solely focused on the pair of them as they interact with the team. It's a WIP, but it updates regularly and the author writes fantastic action. Triggers for violence, mind control, etc. etc.

[livejournal.com profile] alphaflyer here at this bar has written some great fics (Going to Ground (http://archiveofourown.org/works/520261/chapters/919520) and In the Service (http://archiveofourown.org/works/543070/chapters/965500)) and is in the process of writing a sequel to Going to Ground with the entire team, so you could say I'm more than a little excited. Check the ratings for trigger warnings at the site before diving in.

I know you requested long!fic, but I have to give a shout-out to [livejournal.com profile] hufflepuffsneak and her brilliant Queen of Attolia (http://archiveofourown.org/works/579149/chapters/1039282) story. It's not long, but it's profound.

And if you're looking for unrelenting smut, I guess I've gotta recommend SidheRa's Stumbling Home (http://archiveofourown.org/works/434334/chapters/737065). There's a bit of dubcon in that story, so make sure to check the triggers on the site.

Anywhere, those are the ones I thought of off the top of my head. There are hundreds more, obviously. Happy reading!

If you haven't read it, try Two for the Show by mousie tongue. I WILL NEVER STOP RECCING THIS. The HS!AU of joy and plottage. (tw for bullying, homophobia and homophobic language, implied rape)
After her uncle is taken, young Natasha Romanov ends up in state's custody at a group home. She can tough it out alone... but somehow fellow resident Clint Barton becomes the reason she doesn't have to.

And then if you want: my avengers tag on diigo. Mostly Clint&Nat. :)

Welcome! I have to second We Were Emergencies, definitely one of the "classics" for this fandom. And I also second most of the recs so far. Here are a couple more to add to the list.

I can't recommend enough any of the stories by SLynn (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/341764/SLynn). Her stories are mostly Clint centric, with a heavy dosage of angst. My favorite is The Exchange.

I have a thing for Clint/Coulson friendship stories so I really like still officially lost (http://archiveofourown.org/works/385871) and the stories of Aggie2011 (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/610564/Aggie2011). It's all one giant universe, that has great Clint/Natasha interactions as well, but I love Clint and Coulson's interactions, especially in Youngest in History. Her writing is a little shaky at first but as she gets a beta it improves dramatically.

Some random other really good stories are Kobayashi Maru (http://archiveofourown.org/works/465017?view_adult=true) by [livejournal.com profile] anuna_81 and Two Truths and a Lie (http://archiveofourown.org/works/435761) (my go to Budapest story).

I have to agree this community is pretty damn awesome and it's always cool when more people join in on the fun.

Kobayashi Maru! I knew I forgot something! :D
[identity profile] purely-distel.livejournal.com on December 4th, 2012 10:36 am (UTC)
Well, so far I have to say I can only agree as well - this community seems to be just all kinda of glorious! I've felt like LJ's been dying (and, well, it has!) but it's so GOOD to know and see that there are still places that just celebrate and live the dream and ... GNAH! I'm gushing, shutting up now!

THANK YOU so much for all the amazing recs!!!! No idea where to start (Though We Were Emergencies seems like a good idea by now xD) but ... ooooh, all the goodies x.x
[identity profile] alphaflyer.livejournal.com on December 3rd, 2012 08:41 pm (UTC)
First of all -- welcome!!! I only joined a couple of months ago (just in time to MISS the secret santa exchange, but I will be leaving something under the tree ...). And yeah, it's phenomenal. Having such a ball!!!

Second, thanks to Shenshen and Frea_O for reccing my stories. YOU GUYS!!!! Steel feeling the warm fuzzies, now that the blush has worn off... Errrm (sounds of pulling self together). Let me repay the favour: a recent fave was "Shot in the Dark" by Cybermathwitch, which you will find about 9-10 pages down (end of October postings). I checked AO3 but it hasn't been posted yet.

And then, yes of course, there is Bee & Bob's Excellent Adventure, starting with "5 Times Clint and Natasha Made out Like Teenagers Because ... Reasons"; "Off the Grid" as the interlude; and the ongoing "The Equilibrists". Extremely well written angst, action, feels and the *occasional* bit of smut -- they don't come much better than that!

Oh, and to give you a real flavour of the place, have a look at some of the Friday postings.

Herzlich wilkommen im C/N Wunderland! :-)

Happy reading!!

Na da fühlt man sich doch gleich wohlig warm :D

THANKS FOR THE WELCOME! It has given me fuzzy feelings *toothy grin* I cannot wait to sink my teeth into everything this place and especially it's rainbow-people have to offer.

Thanks for the brilliant recs! no idea yet how I will ever get around to reading all of them (but, hey, it's nearly christmas time - lots of kicking back and drooling over pretty fictional characters!) but I am buzzing just thinking about it!!!

[identity profile] purely-distel.livejournal.com on December 8th, 2012 09:46 pm (UTC)
No shit girl, you can WRITE!!!

I've just read through all of you fics in one go and.... Woow! You've just blown me away! There we're several times where I, little eloquent-expression-in-writing whore that I am, downright squeed simply because you're writing is so beautiful and scenic, not even MENTIONING you're character description! Your Clint is so many shades of fucking perfect, I might pull something (or demand an express delivery of this man straight to my door!) and your Natasha is just as deadly and snarky and amazing as I want her to be! I love reading your fics for the fic and the writing alone, that it's also amazingly brilliant clintasha only is the cherry on top.of this already abnormally large cake.

Please promise to never stop writing in this fandom and/or little universe (though the pool was BRILLIANT as well) .... Damn... I know this reads like a.shitty little love letter, but what can I do. Girl,.you now own my soul, handle it with care?

*biggest huggles ever*

Of course, the trouble with classics is that it creates fanon and influences things - if you write at all, it'd be interesting to see what you came up with before you devour all the links we toss your way (not that I tend to dance to my own headcanon's beat, or anything like that ;-) )

That said, I think the only proper "classic" is gyzym's "we were emergencies" (which granted I haven't read, for various reasons, but it's the one most people seem to rec. But [livejournal.com profile] inkvoices (both here and at her journal) are generally very good, and I'd go and have a look at the masterlist of the promptathon for a lot of what we all wrote over a couple of months.

And while it's neither long nor smutty, for classics, I recommend the first Clint-used-to-be-a-hawk fic (the first to my knowledge, anyway): Don't Have Wings But Want To Fly

And welcome to the fandom!

Uuuh, interesting take! It is true, fanon has a way of making things "normal" and, well, fanon ... never thought of it quite like that. I do write of and on. I am not a bad writer, I know that, but I am inconsistent. Sometimes I pull all-nighters and throw fic out left and right and then I lose my muse and stop writing for months on time. I'm just warped like that.

But I am not sure I'd trust myself to just jump in and write. I tend to firtly gather as much knowledge about a character/fandom as possible, hearing as many "voices" as I can, before finding my own way ... never tried it the other way ... maybe a new challenge? ;)

Sadly, I won't be able to really write anything for a while :/ I'm basically operating from a phone atm, while occasionally using my bffs netbook. As a recent Uni graduate that's working 3 jobs to stay afloat, I have no money to buy a new computer :(

BUT - didn't mean to babbling my life story all over you. I just thought it really interesting, the approach you have to fanon and writing etc.

And, obviously, thank you for the recs!

Hi! Fellow German fan here. :)

I'm wholeheartedly seconding the rec for White Blank Page! As long plotty fics go, that one is my absolute favorite in this fandom. I have a whole list of Blackhawk recs at my journal here (http://astridv.dreamwidth.org/323095.html#N/C) (and there are a couple more recent ones if you click on the tag at the top.)

I was gonna list my top favorites from the list but there're just so many...

Thanks for the link to the other recs!!!!

*waves* Welcome to the best bar in fandom!

If you're looking for icons, I have a whole bunch laying around in my journal that may be of interest (here (http://kl-shipper1.livejournal.com/tag/icons%3A%20avengers))-- feel free to take any! Plus, [livejournal.com profile] inkvoices and [livejournal.com profile] daxcat79 have an amazing amount of pretty over at their respective journals.

As for recs... Naked Pantomime in the Dark (http://archiveofourown.org/works/441665) by samalander is a brilliant high school theater AU that is an absolute must-read for me. Its companion piece, Not A Day Goes By (http://archiveofourown.org/works/490968), is more Clint/Natasha-centric and equally as fantastic as the first.

The Dinosaur Game (http://archiveofourown.org/works/436013) by emmypenny is technically Clint/Coulson but the premise is hilarious and the dialogue is so spot on and funny that the pairing can be overlooked if that isn't your cup of tea (and despite the fact that it's listed as C/C, the fic itself is not overwhelmingly shippy).

Assumptions (http://archiveofourown.org/works/388203) by TashaBlackWidow was probably the very first C/N fic I read, and I still rec it because it's a nice break from all the heavy, angsty fics, and Tasha's dialogue is perfect, especially Tony's.

Eight Steps to You (http://archiveofourown.org/works/477188) by lar_laughs and Wet Hot Avengers Summer (http://archiveofourown.org/works/543579/) are two work-in-progress AUs that I love. Eight Steps is an Olympics AU that was originally written for the promptathon (which you should totally check out if you haven't already!) which is currently unfinished, but the parts that are written are lovely! Sarea's Avengers Summer is a teenage/summer camp AU that has brought a smile to my face with every chapter. It's really well-written, and just an overall delight which I would wholeheartedly recommend!

I hope those help, though you can't really go wrong over here-- I can't say I've ever seen a bad fic at be_compromised! Hope to see you around here in the future!

Hello, hello, hello! Welcome to the bar and pull up a chair! (No, not one of the ones with the legs duct-taped back on. Don't ask. Master assassins, what you gonna do?)

I hope it's all right to just go ahead and post like this Sure. Anything related to Clint and/or Natasha is relevant to our interests, and new people joining our relevant interests are relevant to our interests :D

Huh, I thought Nathan Fillion did have a part in the Avengers? You know when Loki attempts to use his spear on Tony at Stark Tower, but just hits the arc reactor and it doesn't work? Isn't there a voice over going, 'shrapnel tore out that particular nerve cluster a while back. I had it moved' ? ;)

Hmm, I wouldn't say we have any 'classics' as such. If you mean fics that everyone has read, well, we read what we can get our hands on. If you mean fics that have hugely influenced the fandom, I don't know, I think we're more about playing off each fics as a way of exploring new ideas rather than building a one-size fits all thing. Long and twisted though, and all of those other things, yeah, we got that covered:

White Blank Page by [livejournal.com profile] allisnow clocks in at 70,555 words (mature/light R, I’d warn for assassins, murder, and playing with brains issues (memory, brainwashing etc.), summary: Debt is only beautiful when it has been repaid). Long, plotty, twisted, smutty, emotional, all boxes ticked.

The ongoing Teenage Makeout Series by [livejournal.com profile] workerbee73 and [livejournal.com profile] bob5fic is huge and still going. Don't let the title fool you, it ticks the boxes too.

[livejournal.com profile] bob5fic is excellent at twisted, dark, and smutty - check out their LJ and make sure you take a look at History's Mistakes (Mature, 15,845 words, warnings for teacher-student relationship, age difference, and self-harm, I’d also say the rating is for sex, AU, summary: “Now who’s the cliche?” Clint is a college professor and Natasha is his student.).

Check [livejournal.com profile] anuna_81 for babyfic and allow me to introduce you to this thing we do on fridays - see any tag with 'friday' in it - where we discuss, squee, write, rec, and party. We had one on kids here and one on AUs here.

I highly recommend wandering through the tags - the friday tags, the fic recs tag, and all the fanworks tags. We even have an icons tag ;) We're pretty good about tagging and you can't actually wander around here without tripping over something made of wonderful, because the quality of everything is great. Enjoy!
