ATTF: friending time.
Greetings, best bar on earth!!  Man I have missed this place. This time of year is always so crazy-busy, and there's always so much to get done that it seems to fly by in a kind of haze (I know I've pretty much been doing my own zombie walk just trying to make it through, and a huge shoutout to Bob for some much needed fic therapy; it's totally keeping my ass sane right now.)

But how goes it, y'all? [livejournal.com profile] shenshen77and I were talking the other day and she had mentioned that we hadn't had a good old-fashioned friending meme in a while, and I thought that sounded like a dandy idea. I also think we need a good impromptu dance party and a chance to chat and hang out with old friends and make new ones and just be our awesome selves.

So please come by and introduce yourself. Say a few words about how you found this place or this ship and what your interests are. Check out other people's comments. Feel free to stalk them (in a non-creepy and completely respectful way) and comment crash-- hell, this place was built on comment-crashing (you think I'm kidding but I'm not.) There is no form to fill out becuase I'm allergic to forms. Free jazz all the way, bb. ;)

ETA on the introductions: no need to go into detail on the personal stuff. share as much as you feel comfortable with. i always like being a little cautious on that front, this being the internets and all. <3

Pics, gifs, randomness, chitchat, melarkly, and general bedlam are always encouraged. I've missed you guys. <3

ALSO-- I'm posting a sign-up sheet in the comments for future ATTF posts. We have had some amazing guest hosts and I thank each and every one of you. Y'all are constantly raising the level of discourse (and squee) around here and it's awesome. So for anyone thinking about signing up-- don't be a stranger, m'kay?

That is super interesting. I'm doing my thesis on St. Enda's a school that was run by Patrick Pearse near the turn of the century. But, in a broader sense where a lot of my readings have centered on is nationalism and Irish identity. It amazes me how long that conflict continued to fester and exploded into some pretty bad violence. I lectured on it to a class and showed them all of the murals from some of the neighborhoods to show how the same event or person such as William of Orange had completely different connotations depending on if you were unionist or nationalist. I would have found it interesting to have met some of these people, especially Ian Paisley jr. My prof has quoted him numerous times in class.

yeah, I went through those West Belfast neighbourhoods when the conflict was still on -- down RPG ("rocket-propelled grenade") Avenue, all the murals, the peace lines ... pretty depressing. Happy to discuss some of this off-line, if you want. :-)

I would love to do that sometime. Can I friend you?
