I actually want the relationship be fairly ambiguous (if only because, as with horror movies, imagination is always better than reality), even to the extent Clint or Natasha is trolling the others.

Whedon ships Clint and Natasha too hard for Nat to end up with Bucky, so I'm not too worried about that. My biggest hope for Avengers 2 is a 1) Set up for a Black Widow movie and 2) Black Widow and Hawkeye get an awesome teamwork scene (perhaps because the bad guy captured or incapacitated the powered characters, underestimating the normals) where we see both of them play to their strengths.

Bar Lee/ Kara, all of my major OTPs have been Whedon ships, and they have all ended in heartbreak. This is why fan-fiction is the best.

Yeah, none of my ships have ended well, so now I just regard canon as an interesting version of many possible outcomes.

I think the fact that he left that one scene between them in a movie that was running long is a good indication that Whedon likes the pairing. Yes, we needed that scene so that it made sense to have Clint being part of the team, I think it could have been greatly paired down. It would have been a shame to have that scene end up in the Extras but he gave it to us. He gave us all kinds of C/N, even if it wasn't kissing and hugging and hand holding.

It actually scares me that he ships C/N.

Joss is notorious for breaking up couples, in the most painful way possible.

If he does this by killing off either one of them, I will never, ever forgive him.
