ATTF: You must have been on crack (everything humorous, cracky and funny)
Hi all!

So I was thinking all day yesterday and though significant part of today what I should put into the intro part of this post, considering our topic. I mean how do you talk about crack and humor? I find it's hard to define it, so I looked for some help. Here's what Urban Dictionary says:

1. crackfic
A type of fanfiction (or original fiction) that is intentionally unbelievable and insane; often humorous. Usually short, one-shot stoires.

2. crackfic
A type of fiction where it is believed that the author must be on crack to have written such a story because it's so bizarre or off the wall
Often, a facial expression after reading one of these crackfics is 'O.O' or 'O.o'

[livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch just shared this bit of comic-verse with me:

(That's Wolverine, Spiderman and Clint, discussing a show called "Dog Cops". In which, apparently, actual dogs are involved. I'd say this is a good illustration of what crack is and how it's supposed to work - make you tilt your head just slightly and crack up about the idea, the content or both).

From a writer's perspective, crackfics (and humoristic fics) are a special kind of challenge. I like layered humor, with lots of references and good banter, so that's what I try to write myself. I know that writing crack makes me think outside the box, which is fun and good for my writing skills. Crack is often funny, but there are examples when it's not - while the premise of Tangled up in blue by [livejournal.com profile] im_ridiculous might sound cracky (Clint as a country music singer), the final product is everything but funny. It's an in-depth take on a man who owns little but his regrets, his messed up life and considerable problem with alcohol. (If you head over there to read - I linked you to most recent chapter, where are the links to previous chapters, make sure you read the warnings:)

Humorous or not, I find crack is often the best when it explores things, even subtly, so it gives us both the thinky thoughts and laughs as we read. For the occasion of the Valentine's Day Mini Promptathon I wrote two crackfics - It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage (teen, warnings for language and hospital setting) one in which Clint and Natasha are movie stars for a prompt [livejournal.com profile] inkvoices had left. I poked fun at entertainment industry and celebrity world, but also attempted to come up with Avengers - movie paralels. Hopefully that worked out. The other one was Bop Bop Baby (rating: mature; warnings: some language and sexual content), for multiple prompts, but basically SHIELD Valentine's Day tradition and one thing that came up in promptathon post discussion, namely Clint singing boyband songs to Natasha. (If there is off the wall idea, that has to be one). A particularly big challenge regarding this fic was coming up with pop culture and musical references and making them work within story. It was fun (and dear God, you should have seen my writing playlist), but I think all the effort paid off.

Enough of tooting my own horn, I have some recs for you, and mind you, the purpose is to enable you to post your own recs - to fanfiction, but also videos and art that you find cracky and funny. Also!! Link us to your own cracky and funny works, be it fic or art or vids! Tell us about cracky scenarios you'd like to see written or turned into art! Everything goes, as long as it's funny and fun and Clint/Natasha flavored.

1. Love you like a love song by [livejournal.com profile] alwayslera -- in which Natasha and Steve are trying to understand pop songs, and the team doesn't get spared. Clint/Natasha, Steve and Natasha friendship. The author warns for lot of angst and some fluff. A very funny, chock-full-of-feels stuff.

2.
Bechdel test by [livejournal.com profile] frea_o; in which Tony has concerns for his teammates and ends up verbally ass-kicked by Natasha and Maria Hill. You can have three guesses on which Team Clint is. Apart from being a funny fic, it's also a clever take on the purpose of Bechdel test.

3. Similar to a piece of string by [livejournal.com profile] ashen_key in which Natasha is called to work and Fury ends up looking after BlackHawk baby. Guys, just think- Nick. Goddamn. Fury. BABYSITTING. Need I say more? No warnings.

4. They Will Rock You by [livejournal.com profile] hufflepuffsneak which was just posted, and written for the mini promptathon prompt "Knight's Tale AU". As far as I can tell, we're off to a great adventure with fake Sir Clint and his friend Steve who plan to enter knight tourneys just to raise enough money for their purposes. There is a certain Lady Natasha as well, along with Sir Fury, Jane the Blacksmith, Lord and Lady Stark, Darcy Lewis, the Princes Odinson, Father Banner and the Winter Knight. I just read and loved it.

Enough from me! You guys know what to do! :D

My all-time favorite crackfic is The Dinosaur Game (http://archiveofourown.org/works/436013) by emmypenny
(Team, claims Clint/Coulson but is kinda genish. rated Teen, no warnings.)
Rules:
1. If you find a dinosaur, you must hide it.
2. You may only hide the dinosaurs on SHIELD property.
3. Maria Hill's property is off-limits.
4. These rules are subject to change at any time, without warning.

---

Or, SHIELD agents know how to have fun but it will probably be terrifying for all involved.

All I can saw about this fic (besides the fact that I love Emmy and she is brilliant and one of my best friends) is that if you can read a story about people hiding plastic dinosaurs from each other without giggling, I don't know what to tell you.

I also run a weird effing tumblr (infrequently updated) called Hawkscratch (Clint Barton Can't Draw) (http://hawkscratch.tumblr.com/) in which I draw shit with crayons and blame it on fictional characters. So uh, there's that. (All G, no warnings.)

My sister and I play this game in our apartment with a tiny little ninja she's named Phil. It makes me wonder if she's read this fic...either way, off to read!

Amazing! My friend Jon and I invented it when he flaked on helping me move and then showed up and hid all my toys. There was a mutant armadillo in the freezer for years.
[identity profile] frea-o.livejournal.com on February 22nd, 2013 07:56 pm (UTC)
I managed to hide Phil in an old clock (our step-grandpa was a horologist, so we inexplicably own fancy clocks) that was the exact shade of white as he is. My sister is still bowing to my hiding prowess. My piece de resistance would be hiding him in her food, but I'm a little worried she'd choke.

I hope the armadillo made it out okay.

It would be awesome to play with someone I lived with, but my current roommate is insanely bad at the game.

The armadillo survived the freezer, but left us in a subsequent move. It's possible he got left in a cabinet somewhere.

YES! That story is one of the funniest stories EVER! That was one of those stories where I kept laughing hysterically and I figured my roommate thought I was insane. I love how the scale of it gets bigger as more people get included and it just gets bonkers.

I feel so incredibly BUMMED because I literally can't read Clint/Coulson - daaamn. But I trust you when you say it's funny.
[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_samalander/ on February 22nd, 2013 08:19 pm (UTC)
Honestly, it's only Clint/Coulson because of one line, it can read as gen or buddies without too much crazy arm waving, if you want.
[identity profile] anuna-81.livejournal.com on February 22nd, 2013 08:23 pm (UTC)
Skimmed through the fic and found that one line and closed it. My brain just goes "but that's not my Clint!" and I just can't read. :/
[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_samalander/ on February 22nd, 2013 08:27 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I feel ya. I can't understand Bruce/anyone for much the same reason.
[identity profile] anuna-81.livejournal.com on February 22nd, 2013 08:34 pm (UTC)
Thank you. Clint/Nat = OTP. They don't work for me when paired with other people. I'm cool with past relationships and I inclde them in my own stories, but I'm not able to handle multishipping my OTP pairs, like, at all.
[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_samalander/ on February 22nd, 2013 08:45 pm (UTC)
I'm a pretty dyed-in-the-wool multishipper, but there are some ships I like less than others. I've actually tried to write Clint/Coulson, but I can't quite bring myself to buy it enough to write it.
[identity profile] chrisfaithalin.livejournal.com on February 22nd, 2013 08:24 pm (UTC)
Yes, I second this. I don't read Clint/Coulson romance, I just love stories where they are really good friend so sometimes that line gets blurred. This story can pretty much be read as general. It's worth it.
[identity profile] anuna-81.livejournal.com on February 22nd, 2013 08:32 pm (UTC)
I skimmed the fic and found "we're together" line and that was it, sadly. I believe it's worth it, and I can't really explain why I feel the way I do. (Read a story where Clint was turned into a child and even though his relationship with Coulson was implied at the every end, it left me with so much discomfort, it ruined the rest of the story.) This just isn't my cup of tea *shrug* I don't mind slash, or multi shipping, I'm aware many people enjoy it. But when I fall for OTP that's pretty much it. Clint and Natasha with someone else doesn't work.

I'm the same with Clint/Coulson, one singleline of even a hint at a relationship... and I have to backbutton. Never had such a reaction before, ever.

And I like Clint/Darcy so it's not that I'm 100% exclusive about my OTP. So weird.
[identity profile] anuna-81.livejournal.com on February 22nd, 2013 08:43 pm (UTC)
I adore Darcy. I'm not sure how she'd work out with Clint (probably not considering my OTPishness), but I like them as friends, and I like when she pokes fun at him or bosses him around.

Yeah I'm the same - BACKBUTTON BACKBUTTON! And "I did not just read that, oh whyyyyy", which is probably silly. But it's how I feel.
[identity profile] alphaflyer.livejournal.com on February 22nd, 2013 08:34 pm (UTC)
Intriguingly, I got into the fandom because of a Clint/Coulson that someone I trusted recced (one of Pollyrepeat's) because I didn't really think about it. Read a couple more and then thought ... really? Nah.

And here I am ...! (Haven't read one since!)
[identity profile] anuna-81.livejournal.com on February 22nd, 2013 08:46 pm (UTC)
To me they're... friends and ... senior agent/CO and the man under his command? And the way I see their personalities, they don't mesh for me. So just.... nah.
