ATTF: You must have been on crack (everything humorous, cracky and funny)
Hi all!

So I was thinking all day yesterday and though significant part of today what I should put into the intro part of this post, considering our topic. I mean how do you talk about crack and humor? I find it's hard to define it, so I looked for some help. Here's what Urban Dictionary says:

1. crackfic
A type of fanfiction (or original fiction) that is intentionally unbelievable and insane; often humorous. Usually short, one-shot stoires.

2. crackfic
A type of fiction where it is believed that the author must be on crack to have written such a story because it's so bizarre or off the wall
Often, a facial expression after reading one of these crackfics is 'O.O' or 'O.o'

[livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch just shared this bit of comic-verse with me:

(That's Wolverine, Spiderman and Clint, discussing a show called "Dog Cops". In which, apparently, actual dogs are involved. I'd say this is a good illustration of what crack is and how it's supposed to work - make you tilt your head just slightly and crack up about the idea, the content or both).

From a writer's perspective, crackfics (and humoristic fics) are a special kind of challenge. I like layered humor, with lots of references and good banter, so that's what I try to write myself. I know that writing crack makes me think outside the box, which is fun and good for my writing skills. Crack is often funny, but there are examples when it's not - while the premise of Tangled up in blue by [livejournal.com profile] im_ridiculous might sound cracky (Clint as a country music singer), the final product is everything but funny. It's an in-depth take on a man who owns little but his regrets, his messed up life and considerable problem with alcohol. (If you head over there to read - I linked you to most recent chapter, where are the links to previous chapters, make sure you read the warnings:)

Humorous or not, I find crack is often the best when it explores things, even subtly, so it gives us both the thinky thoughts and laughs as we read. For the occasion of the Valentine's Day Mini Promptathon I wrote two crackfics - It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage (teen, warnings for language and hospital setting) one in which Clint and Natasha are movie stars for a prompt [livejournal.com profile] inkvoices had left. I poked fun at entertainment industry and celebrity world, but also attempted to come up with Avengers - movie paralels. Hopefully that worked out. The other one was Bop Bop Baby (rating: mature; warnings: some language and sexual content), for multiple prompts, but basically SHIELD Valentine's Day tradition and one thing that came up in promptathon post discussion, namely Clint singing boyband songs to Natasha. (If there is off the wall idea, that has to be one). A particularly big challenge regarding this fic was coming up with pop culture and musical references and making them work within story. It was fun (and dear God, you should have seen my writing playlist), but I think all the effort paid off.

Enough of tooting my own horn, I have some recs for you, and mind you, the purpose is to enable you to post your own recs - to fanfiction, but also videos and art that you find cracky and funny. Also!! Link us to your own cracky and funny works, be it fic or art or vids! Tell us about cracky scenarios you'd like to see written or turned into art! Everything goes, as long as it's funny and fun and Clint/Natasha flavored.

1. Love you like a love song by [livejournal.com profile] alwayslera -- in which Natasha and Steve are trying to understand pop songs, and the team doesn't get spared. Clint/Natasha, Steve and Natasha friendship. The author warns for lot of angst and some fluff. A very funny, chock-full-of-feels stuff.

2.
Bechdel test by [livejournal.com profile] frea_o; in which Tony has concerns for his teammates and ends up verbally ass-kicked by Natasha and Maria Hill. You can have three guesses on which Team Clint is. Apart from being a funny fic, it's also a clever take on the purpose of Bechdel test.

3. Similar to a piece of string by [livejournal.com profile] ashen_key in which Natasha is called to work and Fury ends up looking after BlackHawk baby. Guys, just think- Nick. Goddamn. Fury. BABYSITTING. Need I say more? No warnings.

4. They Will Rock You by [livejournal.com profile] hufflepuffsneak which was just posted, and written for the mini promptathon prompt "Knight's Tale AU". As far as I can tell, we're off to a great adventure with fake Sir Clint and his friend Steve who plan to enter knight tourneys just to raise enough money for their purposes. There is a certain Lady Natasha as well, along with Sir Fury, Jane the Blacksmith, Lord and Lady Stark, Darcy Lewis, the Princes Odinson, Father Banner and the Winter Knight. I just read and loved it.

Enough from me! You guys know what to do! :D

All right, I looked to see if I have any cracky fics (though I'm still laughing at Bechdel Test being considered crack, given that I once made Natasha fight a fast food icon and an army of disembodied hands while Clint was fighting a concrete elephant*) and here they are! Some of these are gen Avengers rather than Clint/Natasha.

Here Are All the Sensations of Being Alive (http://archiveofourown.org/works/463048) by prettyasadiagram
Sadly, this isn’t a manifesto of Natasha’s carefully guarded hobbies, which, contrary to the latest rumor, does not include collecting spoons made out of the bones of her enemies. Although really, that would be awesome.

(Warnings for violence and some swearing.) Clint's really understanding for a guy that once flashed sequined bald eagle underwear at a bunch of Hungarian thugs. And yes...it's all Natasha's fault.

It Starts Out Like An A-Word (As Anyone Can See) (http://archiveofourown.org/works/415169) by Amy
This fic is brought to you by the letter Y, the number 12, and the Avengers' decision to help fix what Loki and the Chitauri did to destroy parts of Manhattan. (Mostly that last part.)

Yes, that's right. Avengers and Sesame Street. It's like the pinnacle of crack, if crack taught you how to spell and count. (I'm pretty sure actual crack does the opposite) No warnings that I can think of.

Questionnaire (http://archiveofourown.org/works/519807) by storiesfortravellers
Some time after the events of the movie, somebody sits the Avengers down together to go through some standard SHEILD paperwork. Of course, because it's SHEILD, the standard paperwork goes way beyond listing an emergency contact. To whom would they give prospective consent in case of a fuck-or-die/sex-pollen situation? Who would want appointed guardian if they're de-aged? If they're permanently transformed into a housepet? And so on...

Not Clint/Natasha in the slightest, so I'm sorry for reccing it here, though both characters got belly laughs from me. This fic is fantastic because it asks allll of the questions on the SHIELD paperwork and for all that Agent Phil Coulson has to put up with. Warnings for sexual situations, dub-con triggers (though no actual dub-con/non-con appears in the fic; they just talk about it), swearing.

Bonus Darcy Lewis Rec!!! To Fly Like a Moron (http://archiveofourown.org/works/506876) by shadydave
Darcy gets super powers. For a given value of "super". Crossover with The Pumaman. No, seriously.

You don't have to be a fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000 to like this fic, but I do warn you, don't read it in public if you have a sense of humor. I was on the floor crying from laughing so hard. Darcy's "superpowers" are fantastic, her reaction to them is hysterical, and even better is when the Avengers find out about them. Warnings for violence and destiny.

*And I still appreciate the recs!!! You guys are awesome. *blushes*

(Shhh, dude, I'm aware of the other crack thing, it's just that I love Bechdel test SO DAMN MUCH). And I am super intrigued about the Darcy fic!!!

What Nuna said ;D Couldn't agree more *scurries off to read*

I have like four cracky Darcy stories, but given that they don't feature much Clint or Natasha, I just went with that one. As it transcends everything else. ;)

I would like some cracky Darcy recs. *puppy eyes* (Or if it's too OT for here, can you pm me the links?)

OT: Darcy Lewis Crack Recs
There we go, I think titling my comment saves me.

All Things Being Equal, I'd Rather Be in Philadelphia (http://archiveofourown.org/works/456571) by meinterrupted. Darcy does Die Hard. Warnings for violence, language.

Hulk Takes Out the Trash (http://archiveofourown.org/works/430760) by jdphoenix. Bruce discovers an attractive, younger woman in Stark Tower and jumps to conclusions. Hulk takes matters into his own hands. Warnings for...I don't think anything? Maybe language.

American and Russian Relations in the 21st Century (http://archiveofourown.org/works/527622) by Margo_Kim. Warnings for sexual content, language. Darcy thinks there's something funny about Steve and Natasha's new relationship. Erik and Jane think she's crazy.

And one non-Darcy for bonus. Robot Trip (http://archiveofourown.org/works/637359) by copperbadge. Tony and Steve take Dummy on a roadtrip across the country. (warnings: language, car accidents, repeated use of the Chattanooga Choo Choo)

Re: OT: Darcy Lewis Crack Recs
Yay, thank you! Pretty sure I haven't read at least two of them.

Re: OT: Darcy Lewis Crack Recs
Well, if you can stand a non-C/N pairing, there's a Clint/Darcy I liked quite a bit that has a lot of funny moments in it. It's by Puffabilly:

Re: OT: Darcy Lewis Crack Recs
Thanks. My Kindle is getting quite a workout at the moment. *pets*

It's weird because I ship Nat/Clint exclusively, but I for some reason really like Darcy/Clint fic... even while I don't ship it and would never want to see it in canon.

Re: OT: Darcy Lewis Crack Recs
Ditto. Darcy is fun, and any writer who gets her voice usually comes up with some pretty good crack. I don't "ship" them either, but I infinitely prefer reading Clint/Darcy to Clint/one-of-the-boys-or-Loki anytime... ;-)

Re: OT: Darcy Lewis Crack Recs
These were great and I didn't know three of them. The one with the scientist gang speculating about Natasha's love life cracked me up. :)

Re: OT: Darcy Lewis Crack Recs
I love Margo_Kim's work. She writes some Clint/Natasha stuff, too, but I like her in any variation I can get, really. :) I'm glad I could point you to new stuff!!

The Darcy fic is *hilarious*. I put my list together in a haste and didn't remember how much Nat and Clint were in that one, otherwise I would've put it on the list because it had me in stitches.
