ATTF: Music and Musicals
Hello, oh denizens of This Bar.

Please forgive the lateness of this post- I could give you many excuses, but the truth is that I forgot yesterday was Friday. My life is the most difficult of them all.

MOVING ON.

Today I want to talk to you about music and our spies.

What kind of music do you think they like, if they like any at all? Does Clint listen to Panic! At the Disco! when he works out? Does Natasha like to make love to Mahler?

And while we're at it, what about when you're creating? What kind of music gets you in the spysassin mood? Do you have a C/N anthem? Are there any fics that you like that use music in them, or inspire you to listen to a specific song?

Under the cut: Music! To listen to!

These are some of my favorite Clint/Natasha songs - ones that get me in a mental place to write about our spies.

Hit the Lights - Bodybag

Suzanne Vega - Marlene on the Wall

All Time Low - Coffee Shop Soundtrack

Damien Rice - Cannonball

Stars - The Night Starts Here

Erin McCarley - Love Save The Empty

So. What are yours?

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

Crash into me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7ph3wWMcFQ) is such a fine C/N song.

"You wear nothing but yourself, but you wear it so well".

!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure I could find something C/N related in all DMB songs I know. LOVE THEM.
[identity profile] anuna-81.livejournal.com on May 25th, 2013 10:19 pm (UTC)
I can say same for Springsteen. Whom I adore beyond telling. :D DMB are awesome! :D
[identity profile] happilydancing.livejournal.com on May 25th, 2013 10:26 pm (UTC)
Aaaahhh Springsteen!!! "Brilliant Disguise" anyone?
[identity profile] anuna-81.livejournal.com on May 25th, 2013 10:35 pm (UTC)
ZOMG. You don't wanna get me started on that song, I ADORE IT. To me, it's Clint/Bobbi song because of what it is about? it sounds like a happy song, like a happy love song but when you listen to the lyrics?

Now look at me baby struggling to do everything right
And then it all falls apart when out go the lights
Im just a lonely pilgrim I walk this world in wealth
I want to know if it's you I don't trust cause I damn sure don't trust
Myself

It ends vaguely, and it's such unhappy song, and the lyrics are amazing. He wants to make it work, but knows it won't work out. GAH. The lyrics. Sorry! I go nuts over Springsteen's songs. :D
[identity profile] happilydancing.livejournal.com on May 25th, 2013 10:40 pm (UTC)
OMG I KNOW!!!!! That song...seriously. I can totally see it Clint/Bobbi. I don't really know that much about them, but I just feel like they are exes in my head.

"What are those words whispered baby, just as you turn away?"

"So when you look at me, you better look hard and look twice. Is it me, baby, or just a brilliant diguise?"

WHY AM I AT WORK??? I need to listen to this song NOW.
[identity profile] anuna-81.livejournal.com on May 25th, 2013 10:47 pm (UTC)
I KNOOOOOOOW!!! THAT SONG OMG!!!

Tonight our bed is cold
Im lost in the darkness of our love
God have mercy on the man
Who doubts what he's sure of

LOOK AT THOSE LYRICS!! People often don't take Springsteen seriously (that dude who plays really loud rock music, right?) but God, LYRICS. HAVE YOU HEARD HIS LYRICS.

(I usually write Clint and Bobbi as exes. Heh. I'm an OTPer.)

This is probably a bad time to say I can only name one Springsteen song under pressure...
[identity profile] anuna-81.livejournal.com on May 25th, 2013 10:36 pm (UTC)
Which one is that? *G*

(I can educate you just fiiiine. And I already linked to several. :P)
franztastisch[personal profile] franztastisch on May 25th, 2013 10:39 pm (UTC)
Born in the USA? Or is that the album?
[identity profile] anuna-81.livejournal.com on May 25th, 2013 10:44 pm (UTC)
It's both! And it's a good album to start with (it has Born in the USA, but also dancing in the dark, Glory days and No surrender. And other awesome songs :D)
franztastisch: winchester[personal profile] franztastisch on May 25th, 2013 10:48 pm (UTC)
I'm going to be honest rihgt off the bat. I have never felt compelled to try Springsteen because to me he always seemed so... American. And that's never appealed to me. Though I'm sure he is many, many things other than that, that is was I always think and I've not got over/past that. But if I ever fancy trying him, I will start here and then go to you for pointers. :)
[identity profile] happilydancing.livejournal.com on May 25th, 2013 10:54 pm (UTC)
Can you pul-eeze listen to "Brilliant Disguise" though? Just listen to it like 10 times in a row. You will be sold. I promise!

Also, Clint is sooooo American to me, he is more American than Steve haha. And maybe that's b/c its so sexily contrasted to Natasha's exotic Russian/worldiness.
franztastisch: regina[personal profile] franztastisch on May 25th, 2013 10:57 pm (UTC)
Yeah I get that Clint is American, and in many ways even more American than Steve but... I dunno.

I shall give it a go though. Right now, for you. :P
[identity profile] happilydancing.livejournal.com on May 25th, 2013 11:01 pm (UTC)
hehehe. I feel like we are all Clints and you are Natasha and we are bugging you to listen to our music.
franztastisch: regina[personal profile] franztastisch on May 25th, 2013 11:07 pm (UTC)
I WILL HAPPILY BE NATASHA. And you will bow to my awesome (and Thighs of Death). :P
[identity profile] anuna-81.livejournal.com on May 25th, 2013 11:03 pm (UTC)
YES. BRILLIANT DISGUISE. I SECOND THIS.
[identity profile] anuna-81.livejournal.com on May 25th, 2013 10:57 pm (UTC)
Fair! But if there's a musician who can honestly do self-criticism (I mean just look at what Born in the USA is like...); it's Springsteen. If you think of him as a symbol of USA (I don't know where you're from) I find he's not a person who'd glorify his country and be blind about flaws.

He writes amazing love songs. He's a great analyst of human unhappiness and causes for it. And he's just amazing musician, so yes, if you ever need pointers... :D
franztastisch: spn[personal profile] franztastisch on May 25th, 2013 11:01 pm (UTC)
No I don't think he represents America or anything, and I am well aware that he doesn't shy away from being critical, He's just... very American to me. And it's never appealed. (I'm from the UK, and the US has never had much appeal to me in my formative years, so most of my pro-US feelings are also post-Obama i.e. pretty damn recent).

You will be my first point of call for pointers, promise. :)

Also I feel this ATTF has become "get Franz into Springsteen". I think I'm the only one here who doesn't have a working knowledge of him. :P
[identity profile] anuna-81.livejournal.com on May 25th, 2013 11:04 pm (UTC)
Goooootcha. And we're talking about dude who sang for Obama during his campaign.

Yes! It seems so. Because we're trying to get you to listen to damn good music.

Oh, Franzi, Franzi. Thunder Road? Born to Run? No Surrender? Dancing In The Dark? I'm on Fire? I think Clint likes the 80s albums (and yes, Born in the USA, but the album, not the song).

And anything on the Nebraska album, which he would have drowned in during those dark, pre-SHIELD days.

PS: Hi Nuna!

I AM SORRY ABOUT MY MUSICAL FAILINGS. Oh... Born to Run maybe? :/

(and I like this name Franzi you've got for me. I am now going to invent an alternate me who is Middle Eastern and has beautiful hijabs. *nods*)

One of my childhood friends was a Franzi ("Franziska"). :-)

I have a lovely embroidered hijab I bought in Qatar that you can borrow for cosplay when you come to visit ... ;-)

I have such a massive love for hijabs and Islamic fashion that this is a pretty good way of bribing me to do stuff. Now I want to see it!

BADLANDS. Entire song and its feel, but these lyrics in particular:

For the ones who had a notion,
A notion deep inside,
That it ain't no sin to be glad you're alive
I wanna find one face that ain't looking through me
I wanna find one place,
I wanna spit in the face of these badlands
.

Also, entire "Wrecking ball" album is very post-New York Clint to me. (Death to my Hometown? Shackled and drawn? I love the entire album).
