ATTF: First Meetings
Hello, dear Bar! It's Friday, I just finished a fic I've been chipping away at for three months, and now I'm your host for the evening (or insert locally appropriate time of day)!

Today's theme is First Meetings. Back when I first sort-of-accidentally fell into this 'ship last spring, I spent a while feeling really lost because of the ambiguity around how Clint and Natasha's story actually starts. I'd never been in a fandom like this one, where everyone picks and chooses to make their own head canon. Turns out making those choices for my own head canon was one of the most fun things I've ever done in fandom, and now I'm a little obsessed with different versions of how they met.

- So, what's your head canon for Clint and Natasha's first meeting? Was it exactly like Natasha tells us in the movie, with Clint being sent by SHIELD to kill her, or is there a part of the story before that? Was there an epic fight, or was it surprisingly non-violent? How did it get decided that Natasha would work for SHIELD? Discuss!

- Rec fic/art/other things that have to do with their first meeting. I'm still new enough to this bar that I'm not sure I have much to add in the way of recs, but I'd love to see what other people come up with.

- COMMENT FIC ABOUT FIRST MEETINGS! (Sorry, I got really excited. :p ) To get us started here, I pulled some unfilled (as far as I know) prompts from ye olde promptathon spreadsheet that could have to do with first meetings and/or early partnership things. It would be awesome to see some fills for these, or feel free to share/prompt your own!

His personnel file was three inches think, and marked "Level Six." She licked her lips in anticipation. (from [livejournal.com profile] alphaflyer)

The first time she initiated an embrace wasn’t what he expected. She was desperately clutching him, fists curled into his shirt on his back, violently shuddering, and with her face buried against his neck. (from [livejournal.com profile] crazy4orcas)

I never met a more impossible girl. (from [livejournal.com profile] sugar_fey)

found a dead-end girl to read my palm, she was into losing streaks so I let her take me on (miiine! :p )

Annnnnnd now time for a little business. ;)

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

You can't see it but I'm narrowing my eyes suspiciously at you.

Ok. Damn it. Ok.

How about you both write a paragraph or two RIGHT NOW as a teaser?!
[identity profile] andacus.livejournal.com on September 21st, 2013 02:15 pm (UTC)
Preliminary paragraph is preliminary and paragraphy!

Of course this was a giant disaster. He really should have known not to listen to them. He knew better than to take anything Solo said without about a freighter’s worth of salt, but Skywalkeri? He really hadn’t expected Master Skywalker to wrangle him into such an insane scheme. Clearly the master had been spending too much time with his brother-in-law.

They were both insane.

“Kriff,” Clint muttered under his breath. Fury would have his hide for going along with this.

He peered around the corner of the palace, sticking to the shadows and feeling outward with the Force, invisible tendrils seeking enemies around corners and behind closed doors. The hallway was deserted, but outside in the courtyard he could feel the person they had come for. She had a presence unlike anything he had encountered before. The Jedi from the temple, his friends and colleagues, were all different, each one a distinct star among thousands, but they were similar; they connected to the Force in a way that connected them to each other - a web of bright spots and shining stars. But this woman, she was different. She sent off sparks.

”Barton, we’ve been… uh… waylaid. Might be a few minutes before we get there.” A voice said in his ear.

Kriffing Solo.

Clint sighed, but didn’t bother to respond. Luke would feel the resignation and slight annoyance through the force anyway.

“I know you’re there, little bird,” a voice called. “Stop hiding in the shadows and come get me already.”

That was a terrible idea. A very terrible idea. He was going to do it anyway.

She crossed into the hallway, framed by the large windowed doors, her red hair loose and wild like flames. Oh, for the love of… did he really just compare her hair to flames? What the hell was wrong with him?

“We’ve met before,” she continued. “You probably don’t remember, you were younger, still running around in that circus you call a training academy.”

“Funny,” Clint said, stepping from the dark corner, lighting his blue blade. “I didn’t think you were older than me.”

“No, just smarter.” Her own, scarlet blade flickered slowly to life, but she remained still.

“Mechanical difficulties? Your sword looks like it might not survive a fight.”

“Those friends of yours have earned their reputation.” She nodded her head almost respectfully.

“We can wait for them if you prefer.”

But if she had any intention of responding with words, Clint didn’t find out, because she chose that moment to leap forward, her blade coming down hard toward his head. It was an easy block and then a parry and then a series of deflections, as they danced down the winding hallways. Clint was no slouch with a lightsaber - best the Order had, in fact (except for Skywalker and that had more to do with his son of the Chosen One bantha-shit than actual skill), but this woman was proving quite the adversary. He wasn’t playing with her in the same way he usually did. She had him on the defensive more than once and it wasn’t until she stepped wrong, her foot catching on a loose rug, that he got in a solid swing that sliced clean through her sword hilt.

Yay! Two AUs! I like your version of Clint. And I love Luke and Han through his eyes. Mine isn't set in this time period with any of the original characters, so it will be interesting to see how that effects things.

Un-betaed Snippet:

Clint cursed as the red-headed Sith used her lightsaber to cut the last of the bridge between them, leaving an abyss so deep he couldn’t see the bottom. She was trapped as long as her was here, but now he wouldn’t be able to reach her without making himself vulnerable. He sighed. Stalemate.

Romanoff looked across the space at him, openly laughing. He leveled his blaster towards her and shot, only to have her dodge the bolts with contemptuous ease, not even bothering to use her lightsaber to block them.

“That the best you can do, Barton?” she asked, a wicked grin on her face, as if she were having fun. Probably was, knowing the Sith.

“Give it up, Romanoff. You’re trapped. The local security forces are on their way.”

Her eyes widened as he said her birth name. Then she was back to sneering. “What’s the matter Hawkeye? Got an appointment? I prefer to wait here.”

His danger sense tingled and he threw himself to the ground, just as a crate tore through the space where his head had been. It came back around for a second pass, and was joined by a friend, and another, all hurtling towards him.

Breathing deeply, Clint reached out with the Force, wishing he had the raw power of Fury, or the flawless control that Hill had learned. He bent his will on the crates, and they slowed, but continued towards him. He might not have much in power or control, but he had stubbornness on his side. Sweat running down his face, mind aching, he brought the crates to a halt, then threw them down in the abyss between them.

Romanoff was looking at him in surprise. No doubt whatever files the Sith kept counted him as a weak Jedi, given he had barely qualified for training.

Romanoff stopped smiling, her face settling into an impassive mask, her mind and intentions shielded from him as if she were almost invisible to the Force. Then, deliberately, she let her lightsaber fall from her hand, following the crates down into the darkness. “I surrent, and I’m unarmed. You can’t kill an unarmed prisoner.”

Clint snorted. With the Force on her side, Romanoff was never unarmed. Still, he put his blaster on his belt. “Come on over, then. Carefully.”

Romanoff smiled, and in a move that would have been impossible for anyone but an experienced Force-user, took a running jump back to Clint’s side of the bridge, leaping over the impossibly large distance. She stopped a few feet from him as he scrambled away. What was she playing at?

“So, do you have any plans for how to keep me prisoner in that little ship of yours for two weeks?” She asked, almost innocently, making no move towards him.

OMG YOU DID THE THING

AND IT IS AN AWESOME THING

I love her taunting him, and the idea of Clint being kind of a rebellious Jedi, because that's SO CLINT.

ALSO NOW I NEED TO SEE THEM IN THE LITTLE SHIP FOR TWO WEEKS OKAY
[identity profile] hufflepuffsneak.livejournal.com on September 21st, 2013 02:25 am (UTC)
Thank you! Yeah, Clint is a little bit of a loner in the Jedi ranks. And Natasha is all about the mind games, here.

It's perfect. Allllthough I really wanna see them have a lightsaber duel now.

Thanks. Dw, there is no time limit on the writing thing.

Maybe. I'm still desperately searching wikis so I know enough about the universe to write it!

I heard the sweet sound of "AU" and just came running. Hopefully I can do it justice.

Fabulous start!! Happy to help out with the verse. I'm one of the ones on this board who (ahem) watched Star Wars 12 times IN THE CINEMA WHEN IT CAME OUT.

(My excuse: I'd been reading sci fi since I was a kid, and this was the first film that looked the way my imagination did.)
[identity profile] hufflepuffsneak.livejournal.com on September 21st, 2013 04:39 pm (UTC)
That's dedication! I loved Star Wars as a kid, and I've read a couple of the Extended Universe books, but I don't really have a feel for the universe in some senses, so I will probably take you up on that.
[identity profile] spyforaday.livejournal.com on September 21st, 2013 06:32 pm (UTC)
Continuing your Star Wars comment -- That's exactly how I felt (back in the day). I saw it countless times in the theater, but the first time I saw Star Wars was at the drive-in. Imagine being a kid and HEARING Darth Vader for the first time through those static-y window speakers. Still gives me chills...

And kudos to those writing the Jedi Clint/Natasha Sith stories!
[identity profile] enigma731.livejournal.com on September 21st, 2013 09:04 pm (UTC)
Star Wars was my first actual fandom. I can remember writing fic for it before I knew fic was a thing other people did. :D
