Secret Santa: Cheerleader Tea Party
It is now 20 DAYS until Secret Santa gifts are due!

Perhaps you thought you were almost finished, but you didn't realise the deadline was that close. Perhaps you are near the end of your NaNoWriMo efforts and completely forgot December was the month that comes after. Perhaps you are tearing your hair out because you don't know what to write. Now is not the time to panic! Now is the time for a Cheerleader Tea Party.

Pull up a chair, tell us your woes (remembering to keep who you're writing for anonymous and avoding any specifics that would give you away as the giftee anonymous), and people of the bar will gather around to give you tea, sugary goods, shawarma, and all the support we can. Cheerleaders, why not break out your poms poms and descend upon this post with encouragement for our Secret Santa creators. Sometimes you just need a cup of tea and a good chat to make everything better :)

We also have A BETA POST to find a beta or offer to be a beta for more detailed support!

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I could sure use a stiff Scotch or a pint of mulled wine, please. Plus some pom poms and some advice ...

Dec 16th looms and I've written a page of my Secret Santa story (at least I know where it's headed, and mostly how it will get there). But I also have half of another Bang to do by Dec 20 and need to get Chapter 5 of "Skies Over Manhattan" done before AoS tells us what really happened with Tahiti. And my mother-in-law arrives on the 12th ...

Allt his to say I'm thinking of not signing up for my Voyager Board's Secret Santa this year (the deadline there is Jan 3) although the last two exchanges produced two of my finer -- if I may say so myself -- stories in that 'verse, "Downfall" and "Grace".

I'm open to sage advice, or even just a clucking "there, there"...

*HUGS* You can do it!!

Awwww. I may take you up on the more as the speed of my juggling increases ...

This sounds like we need some writin' sprints, really. I haven't even started on my Secret Santa fic (though I've researched it, as my topic is complicated and the opposite of my entire life), so I applaud you even having one page. And I sympathize about the maybe not doing the other Secret Santa, but I gotta tell you, I dropped Nanowrimo, which I've been doing on and off since 2002 and have produced some awesome things during, and it really ended up working out for me.

Of course, if you decide to do it, we'll be cheerleading you on the entire time.

Here's Jeremy, waiting in the car, for you, wherever you go:

Thank you .... still mulling (thoughts, not wine). I hate giving up stuff.

Ah Jeremy. I think I'll ask him to take me to the airport at 1:30... :-)

Ohhh I'll have some tea. Lots and lots of tea. School has been kicking my cute adorable behind lately. It's almost done! December 2 is my last day, but between here and there I do 3 more shifts at the hospital (1 day 2 nights). So basically I have nothing written. Not even a plot bunny. Can someone send me a plot bunny? Wrap it up all pretty with a big bow?

I'm not worried about getting it done in time I know writing a story doesn't take long for me to do. What I am worried about is producing something I am in love with. Maybe I just have to find time to sit down and stare at a blank word document.

Last day is nearly here; you can make it! *hands you a HUGE mug of tea* And I have a theory that if you make something with love that shows, even if you're not in love yourself with the final thing, and that shows *hugs*. Here, have some gift wrapped plot bunnies:

And two assassin bunnies ready for a night out/mission:

I'm over-scheduled. I know I'm over-scheduled - I knew I was over-scheduled when I signed up (hello, I run a gift exchange that is changing from spring to winter for the first time ever)...that's not my problem.

My problem is that I got handed the absolutely perfect set of prompts to write for.

Seriously - everything on this list is stuff I live to write, I have a story already mapped out in my head, AND IT WILL NEVER BE AS PERFECT ON THE PAGE AS IT IS IN MY HEAD!

*wails* I'm good, but I'll never be this good.
[identity profile] hufflepuffsneak.livejournal.com on November 26th, 2013 05:34 pm (UTC)
Isn't that always a problem? The story in your head is so beautiful and you can only do some sort of approximation. (Like systems of government, but that's a different post :P)

Good luck!
[identity profile] sgteam14283.livejournal.com on November 27th, 2013 03:06 am (UTC)
*hugs* I had that problem too! I started one thinking I'd have time to do both, but the one is taking long than expected, lol. Maybe you should save the list so when you're looking for something to write you can go back to it and see if inspiration strikes-I actually did that and one of the prompts worked for the most recent Promptathon!
[identity profile] hufflepuffsneak.livejournal.com on November 26th, 2013 05:33 pm (UTC)
Luckily I've been using my Secret Santa to procrastinate, and my burgeoning research skills to add some fun to the story, so it's mostly done in slushy first draft form. Now I just have to make it good, which might be more of a challenge, because I'm writing a screenplay for NaNo, which has increased my usual terseness in prose to ridiculous levels.

Applause and good luck to everyone who is making the attempt.
[identity profile] frea-o.livejournal.com on November 26th, 2013 10:34 pm (UTC)
Oh, the research. I have to do so much research for mine and I have a feeling it's not even going to be anywhere near a reality. Also, the research is gun-related, so I can't use my off-time at work like I normally would. And I applaud you for being able to write screenplays and long-form prose at the same time. I find it's not possible for me.
[identity profile] hufflepuffsneak.livejournal.com on November 27th, 2013 04:53 pm (UTC)
The worst part of doing research for fiction is when you hunt something down for an hour, realizes it introduces unnecessary complications, and just decide to be deliberately inaccurate for the sake of the story anyway.

Well I'm definitely attempting both. Whether I succeed or not is a different story.
[identity profile] frea-o.livejournal.com on November 27th, 2013 05:54 pm (UTC)
Or when you do two days of research, and it boils down to a line, and then during editing you cut the line.

SO MANY TIMES. :)

Yes! That!

Since I already commented with a few of these for [livejournal.com profile] alphaflyer, I figured I might as well inundate you all with more. All of these were taken by me.

So I have the first part of mine written, which is like the first 12%, right? So yay and all that. But then I had this brilliant idea to add on an...extra...part. And now I'm all excited about it because I think it turns the overall fic into something much stronger. But it still greatly lengthens the story. *facepalm* I think I've got most of it figured out in my head. Doesn't mean I've WRITTEN it, though. Again - *facepalm*!

Ahh, the dreaded 'but then there was more and I hadn't finished the first bit yet!' problem. You'll get it done, you will you will you will, and it will be a thing of wonderful *sprinkles you with magical writing pixie dust*.

I have two vague ideas that become awesome-amazing-why-don't-I-have-a-pen ideas in those 5 minutes before I fall asleep. Other than that... maybe 300 words.

I need a day where I can just sit and listen to music and try and force words onto the page. Even if they're shit words. Cos at least then I have a starting point I can edit the crap out of.

I think we all have those moments (I know I do) and it frustrates me to no end. Maybe it has something to do with how our brains are "turning off" so that lets the bunnies run around, lol.

I'm finally making good headway on my Secret Santa fic after weeks of hiding under my blanket from writers block. Unfortunately, since I'm also heading into the most stressful months of my thesis, it means that basically I can't do proper work on the next chapter of my WIP until Secret Santa is done. If anyone here is reading Adjectives Assemble, it's going to more of a wait than usual. :(

*makes everyone tea*
[identity profile] wizbey.livejournal.com on November 26th, 2013 11:59 pm (UTC)
*accepts tea* I hate writer's block. I'm normally pretty good in November but I didn't do NaNo this year so my story muse doesn't want to function (interprofessional collaboration I can write a lot on that but alas it doesn't relate to my prompts at all). Good luck on your thesis! It's more important than Adjectives Assemble (even though I love that story so much) thesis is more important. Don't stress too much.
[identity profile] sugar-fey.livejournal.com on November 27th, 2013 11:10 pm (UTC)
Writer's block suuuuucks.

Thank you! I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying Adjectives Assemble. I have a lot of fun writing it and I'm glad others have fun reading it. :D
[identity profile] alphaflyer.livejournal.com on November 27th, 2013 10:48 am (UTC)
I'm with wizbey -- if you have to prioritize, thesis needs to be #1 ... Besides, you gave us Clint/Natasha fans a Nice Present in the last chapter of AA, so we can always go back and bask in that until the next chapter comes out. If you'd made us wait, I'd be bashing in your door ...
[identity profile] sugar-fey.livejournal.com on November 27th, 2013 11:12 pm (UTC)
Heh, I knew I'd have to prioritise my time after that last chapter, so I made a point to leave the C/N readers with a little gift. ;) I fear the Carol/Jess fans might start calling for my blood soon though...
[identity profile] charmingalias4.livejournal.com on November 26th, 2013 09:36 pm (UTC)
I've planned my story out, I know exactly what I want to write, I just need to get it down on paper.
inkvoices: avengers:assassins hug[personal profile] inkvoices on November 28th, 2013 08:42 pm (UTC)
Brilliant! You're well on the way! *waves pompoms*

Paper? What's paper ... ;-)

I've got chocy hobnobs to go with the tea (I'll call in the army of Svens to massage your aching shoulders later).

Despite the all the other obligations, the stress, and the worry, I know that each and every one of you will be great! How do I know this? Mostly because I know that everyone here is a fantastic writer. The fortune cookie I ate yesterday hinted at it too. But when it comes down to it, you'll be racing across the finish line, ink smudged faces held high, waving your amazing stories over your heads.

I'm struggling with keeping it lighthearted; since it's post-Avengers Clint is still angsty but seems to be coming around. Also I'm working against a bit of a writer's block and having no time thanks to starting a new job and getting my life into order…

I also need someone to take Tumblr away from me, I get sidetracked there too easily.

[identity profile] sgteam14283.livejournal.com on November 27th, 2013 10:33 pm (UTC)
it is when you're trying to get something done, lol. I think that I've gotten it finished, just need to let it sit and then decide if I want a proper "wrapping up" scene or not...
[identity profile] enigma731.livejournal.com on November 27th, 2013 06:14 am (UTC)
If I cry at my fic enough, do you think it will write itself?
[identity profile] alphaflyer.livejournal.com on November 27th, 2013 10:49 am (UTC)
The ink might get a bit watery ... Here, have a virtual hot toddy. That will double the word count instantly! :-)
[identity profile] sweetwatersong.livejournal.com on November 30th, 2013 12:10 am (UTC)
I'm waiting for that one crystallizing scene/moment to emerge from the chaos of frothing ideas in my head... and no matter how much I mull them over or toss things with my beta, that moment has not arrived.

The one time I try and get things rolling prior to the 'oh frack I'm not going to make it' deadline, and I've got nothing but foam.

Is trolling old promptathon prompts for inspiration acceptable?
