ATTF: Recs From The Wider Marvel Universe
Welcome to a requested special recs edtion of All The Things Friday! Buckle up, members of the bar, because for this ATTF only we're venturing out into the wider Marvel universe.

We're always happy to have Clint and Natasha recs here at [livejournal.com profile] be_compromised even for things that aren't necessarily Clint/Natasha, if they have a focus on at least one of them, or showcase them particularly well, or if there's a fantastic group thing, we love 'em. We even have tags for them! But sometimes we come across a group fic that isn't really about them at all, or a Kate as Hawkeye rec that we'd really like to share, or another awesome female character we think how great it is that we've found something that treats ladies well, or a story about how Thor isn't a moron he's just alien, or a character that isn't even part of the Avengers but the rec is just so, so good... Well now's your chance to share with the bar!

Guidelines

1. If it features characters from Marvel, you can rec it! Go!

2. I know this is business as usually for our bar, but considering the topic just to reiterate: absolutely no chacater bashing, ship wars, or rubbish like that. We're here to share the love. Sometimes fics have pairings that people don't like, or have other things that aren't a reader's cup of tea, but we're going outside of our common territory of Clint and Natasha here so there's likely to be something that isn't someone else's cup of tea. It there's something you don't like, no need to comment on it; move on. Sharing the love. Thank you :)

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

( Post a new comment )

a couple to start off
A random handful collection from my (mosly AO3) bookmarks collection:

scenes from our mansion, after the war by moirariordan (Teen and Up, no AO3 archive warnings apply)
Pepper and Tony being very Pepper and Tony after IM3. And some words about what makes a hero. (Tony/Pepper)

Kapitan Amerika and the Iron Man by Amberdreams and Jay Tryfanstone (tryfanstone) (Explicit)
The summary for this is The Red Son reboot, in which Steve Rogers' childhood heroes were aviators and polar explorers, and Tony Stark grew up reading Captain America comics in Siberia. I have it labelled as 'everything is Russia' because that's the AU aspect of it that caught my attention. (Steve/Tony)

Permit A38 by old_chatterhand (Gen)
The summary is Phil Coulson died. And then he got better.
This is not his story.
This is the story of the agent who had to deal with the paperwork.

I love this fic. I wish it'd been a SHIELD episode. (No spoilers at all for SHIELD by the way, it was written long before.)

The Consultants by thebratqueen (Teen and Up)
"Which of our cases was similar to Iron Man and the Hulk wanting us to commit fraud for them?" Peter asked. "Because I have to tell you I'm racking my brain and nothing's coming to mind." A crossover between the Avengers and White Collar that works wonderfully. (Bruce/Tony)

Kaddish by Vongchild (Gen)
Howard Stark to Tony Stark. Immigration and assimiliation. Fascinating.

Discussions in Dynamic Relationships by scifigrl47 (who, if you haven't read any of her stuff it is all brilliant) (Gen)
Summary: Betty Ross hasn't seen Bruce Banner in more than a year. Jane Foster saw Bruce three days ago. They're both attending the "21st Annual Women in Science and Technology Conference." Bruce, obviously, is not. He's going to regret that, soon enough.
And that was enough to hook me :)

After The End by copperbadge (again, I will read anything by this author, it's always interesting) (Teen and Up)
Another one with Betty. When the events of the Avengers happen, Betty does not sit around. (Betty/Bruce)

#TeamJanet by Aria (Teen and Up)
Darcy admiring Janet Van Dyne. Because as Darcy says at the start, "That is a superhero team that could use more ladies." (Darcy/Janet, Jane/Thor)

I'm Gonna Be A Part Of It (Whether I Want To Or Not) by fringedweller (Mature)
This has been THE Darcy fic for me for a while and it keeps drawing me back in to be reread. Darcy/Bruce but this is not a romance so much as that's just a part of life, and Darcy gets on with a lot of living.

The Courting of Tony Stark by boombangbing (Teen and Up)
Pepper. Eventual Pepper/Tony, but Pepper. Lots of backstory and Pepper.

Extracurricular Activities by scifigrl47 (Teen and Up)
It's possible that Spider Man is working as a pole dancer. Maybe. They're not sure, but the Avengers feel they should investigate. Just in case. And then I laughed a lot.

JARVIS a series by icarus_chained (see individual fic ratings)
Fascinating. Intriguing. The reactions to and ramifications of Artificial Intelligence.

...I'll stop now *sheepish grin*. This is why I shouldn't start reccing things.

Heehee, your rec list makes me feel better ;) Also, RECS :D

YES! RECS!
[identity profile] spyforaday.livejournal.com on November 29th, 2013 10:36 pm (UTC)
Well, this is embarrassing. Apparently, I only read Clint/Nat-centric stories because I don't have anything to rec. Nothing. (I wrote a Pepper-centric story, but it's still heavy on the Clint/Nat, so it's probably not a good fit for this topic. Plus I wouldn't self rec without getting the green light to do so.)

New territory for me tonight. Can't wait to settle in with a glass of wine and check out these stories. Exciting! :)
inkvoices: gingerbread man bath[personal profile] inkvoices on November 29th, 2013 10:57 pm (UTC)
I, on the other hand, read too much of too many things *grins*. If it's Pepper centric, why not? Go fo it :) Yay, Pepper!

Oh good, let's get comfy *makes a hot chocolate*.

Yay, Pepper! Thanks for all the recs :)

Settled in and ready to enjoy some new stories. Just what I needed tonight. Thanks to everyone for all the great suggestions!!

Well didn't cross-over my bookmarks when I got my new computer, so I'm right with you on the nothing to rec. :( We shall just have to wait for other people's awesomeness. :D
[identity profile] happilydancing.livejournal.com on November 29th, 2013 11:01 pm (UTC)
I have read Tony/Pepper before, so I'm def. going to read some of these! I am terrible at remember what fics I like though unfortunately.
inkvoices: avengers:assassins hug[personal profile] inkvoices on November 29th, 2013 11:38 pm (UTC)
I remember a fair amount, but I forget what they're called :/ I try to bookmark, but I like so many they end up a mess. I really need to organise them, and I keep saying that *sigh*. Sometimes I start reading something and realise I've read it before! But then I'll just carry on and reread *grins*. Hope you find some things you like today!
[identity profile] happilydancing.livejournal.com on November 29th, 2013 11:43 pm (UTC)
I only have a couple of fics bookmarked (literally. Only two). I feel the same way you do, its going to be a big old jumbled mess at the end.

And anyway, no need to bookmark when you guys provide me with great links all the time ;)

OK, so my mind went completely blank for this, before going it to complete overdrive. So I apologise in advnce for the spam.

> Drop The Needle Again (And I Dance With Your Ghost) by Sidney Sussex. [gen, PG, 3112 words, no warnings] Sitwell lets Blake call him ‘Coulson’ three times before he snaps.
> (sleep wake hope and then) by [livejournal.com profile] samalander [gen, PG-13, ~8000 words, depression, can be read as pre-Steve/Tony] Steve Rogers wants to go back to art school. But more than that, he wants to figure out what his legacy is, and what he's doing here.
> Recovery by Sinkme [gen, PG-13, ~2000words, ptsd&recovery] Surprisingly, it was Maria Hill who pushed Clint firmly on the path to recovery.
> Not Words But Meanings by [livejournal.com profile] samalander [gen, PG-13, ~7300words, no warnings] James Rhodes loves Tony Stark dearly, and he has to learn to deal with the fact that, while Tony loves him back, Tony has some new friends, and new plans, and they don't always involve Rhodey.
> The Hip and The Dead by hollimichel [gen, PG-13, ~5500words, no warnings] Steve centric: When she asks about the other tenants in the building, the realtor just throws up his hands and says, "Look, I don't know. They're artsy types, if they live around here. You know. Hipsters."
> All the Anger That They Eat by Beatrice Eagle (ClawR) [gen, PG-13, ~7600words, ptsd] Tony agrees to see a therapist for his, you know, fairly obvious issues. No one is more surprised than he is.
> The Other Me on the Other Side of the Stars by everythingispoetry [gen, PG-13, ~4300words, grief, loss] JARVIS&Thor: As time passes, Thor and JARVIS, both immortal if in different ways, become friends. Bonding over loss it bittersweet, but it's better than being lonely.
> The Evaluation Process by sinemoras09 [gen, PG-13, ~4300words, grief, loss] JARVIS!feels: Tony dies, and Jarvis tries to cope.
> Exclusive by [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge [gen, PG-13, ~30,000words, no warnings] Heroes In Manhattan: From Captain America's Hidden Talents To The Truth About The Hulk, We Debunk The Myths And Expose The Daily Lives Of The Avengers.
> The Glass Parade by [livejournal.com profile] enigma731 [gen with backround Clint/Natasha, PG-13, ~6700words, no warnings] In which the most confusing part of the future is how much Steve has in common with Natasha, and the fact that she seems dead-set on being his friend.
franztastisch: j2[personal profile] franztastisch on November 29th, 2013 11:16 pm (UTC)
(cont.)

> Every Denny's in America by Sookie Starchild [gen, PG, ~5100, no warnings] Thor and Steve are definitely not hiding in a Denny's restaurant. Because Thor doesn't hide and Steve doesn't run away from his problems.
> the radio plays just the perfect song by TLvop [gen, PG-13, ~5300words, no warnings] A fic about Darcy and her first year with SHIELD. (And tangentially about how Clint should be more cautious when leaving things around the office.
> The Exchange by SLynn [gen, PG-13, ~5900words, no warnings] Clint has his own system that allows him to get new reading material without actually having to keep any of it. Mostly, it works. Until it doesn't.
> Ode to Joy by [livejournal.com profile] tinnytins [gen, PG, no warnings] Firefly crossover: Dunny speaks in dry whispers.
> Stars Come Down in You by [livejournal.com profile] samalander [Peggy/Steve, PG-13, ~3500words, aging] Steve is dead - he's been dead for years. But that doesn't stop Peggy from having dreams about dancing with a young man she knew in the war.
> The Right Thing The Wrong Way by igrocksopck [Pepper/Tony, PG-13, ~3800words, no warnings] People don't ask why Pepper sticks by Tony as often as they should, and if they did, she probably wouldn't tell them the truth: that he's never left her alone on the one day she actually needs him.
> yet turning stay by irnan [Tony/Pepper, PG-13, ~3000words, no warnings] "Tony - you're all I've got too, you know."
> People Who Know My Sins by [livejournal.com profile] atrata [Tony/Pepper, PG-13, no warnings] Dancing is not in her job description, but neither is mopping up blood at 4 in the morning. She does it anyway.
> call every girl we ever met maria by irnan [Tony/Pepper, PG-13, ~2700words, no warnings] "You're telling me," Rhodey said, gleeful, "you're telling me that you've been shot, stabbed, sewn up, been riddled with shrapnel, had a magnet implanted in your chest, spent two years poisoning yourself with palladium, spent twenty years as a functioning alcoholic and had a vasectomy and you still managed to knock Pepper up?"
> Someone I Used To Know by igrockspock [Tony/Pepper, PG-13, ~1800words, no warnings] Pepper doesn't talk about home or family much, but that doesn't mean Tony doesn't know about them.
> Breadcrumbs by irnan [Bruce/Betty, PG-13, ~2400words, no warnings] Betty is aware that this is not going to work unless she can come up with a better plan than calling up the Pentagon and asking if they can direct her to a scientist who occasionally turns into a giant green monster, a specific one, she didn't just wake up this morning with a craving, she's actually his girlfriend, so would they mind very kindly putting her through... ?
> [to see you there] by Feather (lalaietha) but especially [far from here we are all right] [Clint/Natasha, Bruce/Betty, Pepper/Tony, PG-13, ~10600words, no warnings] "Yes," [Natasha] says. "It's Dr Ross." / "And now you want to go find her and recruit her," Clint says, just to get it out in the air. You have to admire Natasha, really. No matter what or who she runs into, she will obsessively hunt until she finds a way to neutralize them. And she's good at thinking outside the box and knowing that "neutralize" doesn't necessarily mean "kill, concuss or capture."
franztastisch[personal profile] franztastisch on November 29th, 2013 11:17 pm (UTC)
(more cont.)

> can't outrun your blood by lionlannister [Clint/Natasha/Bucky, R, ~5800words, violence] Clint Barton has been running since the moment his brother died, before that even, but now he has a real family. Friends that steal to survive and spend all their days together. But he was never allowed to stay safe for long and violence runs in his blood.
> We Are (Not) A James Bond Movie by zeffyamethyst [Clint/Natasha/Bucky, PG-13, ~800words, no warnings] Bucky sleeps with Natasha first. The rest is history.
> All Bets Are Off by BeBunny [Clint/Natasha/Steve, NC-17, ~16800words, no warnings] AU in which Coulson is the Avenger's liaison, Natasha and Clint are in an established relationship and Steve is mostly confused.
> These Wayward Hearts by fugitives [Clint/Carol, NC-17, ~4500words, no warnings] comics'verse: The plan was to watch Dog Cops. But even the most well-laid plans (and the best intentions) can fall through sometimes.
> Captain Marvellous by [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge [Clint/Carol, NC-17, ~2200words, no warnings] comics'verse: The "morning" after.
> Frequently Asked Questions by Mad_Maudlin [gen, PG-13, ~2300words, memory loss] comics'verse, Clint and Kate: Today is Monday, March 18th. You started losing your memories yesterday.
> Afternoon Stroll by neveralarch (with art by [livejournal.com profile] astridv) [gen, PG, ~700words, no warnings] comics'verse, Clint and Kate: Right, so I'm taking the dog out for a walk. The most normal thing I could possibly do.

I'M SORRY. (I'm not sorry.)

(Also I'm impressed that I only had to remove one rec from my list so as not to double up on [livejournal.com profile] inkvoices.)

ALSO I LOVE [livejournal.com profile] samalander YOU GUYS.

Going in order first up is The Evaluation Process, so just read that now. Ouch. Interesting and very good, but oh, ouch.

So many great-sounding things there -- I don't have time to trawl, and I depend on recs and favourite-listings from people I trust for my fan fic needs. I am SO keeping both your (Franzi's and Ink's) for the holidays -- until then, alas, a dangerous combination of a toxically busy RL, too many bang/exchange story writing obligations and the annual Christmas cookie extravaganza will keep my hopping.

But those lists? Keepers, until that halcyon moment when all you need to do is heat up leftovers.

Spy for a Day by BettyBackInTheDay (PG; general/romance; 16,000 words; no warnings):
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9181877/1/Spy-For-a-Day
Summary: The Avengers are threatened from within and their best hope for survival is hardly who you'd expect. It's a race against time to overcome fear, develop a plan, and save the most critically compromised Avenger.

**Sorry, I have no idea how to create a link without posting the whole internet address. I know it looks messy. I'll figure this stuff out eventually. Maybe. Hopefully.**

Counterfeit and Counterpart (http://archiveofourown.org/works/934035), by [livejournal.com profile] frea_o [Maria/Steve with Clint/Natasha subtext, but it's mostly Maria and Natasha friendship] Five times Maria Hill doesn’t understand Natasha Romanoff, and why she might be better off that way.

For a Rainy Day (http://archiveofourown.org/works/866946), by [livejournal.com profile] frea_o [Maria-centric, Clint/Natasha, Carol Danvers/Jessica Drew, Tony/Pepper] Five books you can find in Maria Hill’s apartment.

And Baby Makes Eight (http://archiveofourown.org/works/532082/chapters/943750), by Tielan. [Maria/Steve, background Clint/Natasha and Tony/Pepper] The curious tale of how the Avengers adopted Maria Hill and her daughter.

Known By Its Flight (http://archiveofourown.org/works/600949), by Tielan. [Maria and Natasha gen] SHIELD does not make weapons of its women – or, as Barton has observed with greater accuracy, SHIELD does not make weapons like Natasha out of their women. That doesn't mean a woman can't choose to make a weapon of herself.

I'm a little late to the party, but I went and looked and I have 160+ bookmarks tagged MCU on my pinboard. Some of those are Clint/Natasha, but I've got all kinds of other pairings (and gen.) Some of them go back to the first Iron Man movie, so canon varies, but they're all things I've loved.

To start off:

All MCU (https://pinboard.in/u:topaz119/t:fandom:MCU/) (all pairings: slash, het, gen, rpf)
Tony/Pepper (https://pinboard.in/u:topaz119/t:pairing:Tony%252fPepper/)
Darcy/Clint (https://pinboard.in/u:topaz119/t:pairing:Darcy%252fClint/)
Bruce/Natasha (https://pinboard.in/u:topaz119/t:pairing:Bruce%252fNatasha/)
gen (https://pinboard.in/u:topaz119/t:category:gen/t:fandom:MCU/) (there might be a pairing but it's not the focus of the story)

I could keep slicing and dicing, but you get the idea. At a minimum, I tag with fandoms and pairings; ratings are in the description. I only occasionally mention warnings, so you might want to check those on the fic itself. Some of the bookmarks in the Iron Man or Captain America tag are comics-verse, but I think I've managed to get them all tagged with some variation of 616. (There's also a Hawkeye tag (for the comic, not the character) that might be of interest around these parts.)

Enjoy (and please feel free to ping me with any questions!)
