I'm absolutely terrified for an Avengers 2. I'M SO SCARED JOSS WILL KILL CLINT. NOT MY BAAAAABY NOOOOO.

I am too, but my 'ship in Dollhouse (Victor/Sierra) ended pretty well, so I'm hopeful that they're important enough that he can't kill them off but unimportant enough that he won't feel the need to spend a lot of time developing alternate ships to set up triangles or whatever--also known as screwing them up.

I worry a bout this too, ngl. BUT. I don't think it's going to happen in the next round of films. At the most we might get a Bucky re-intro, so I'm just praying that the love triangle/quadrangle days are still a far ways off.

I'm super excited by canon possibilities, and, as we discussed earlier, I'm almost more okay right now with a (somewhat) less is more approach and maybe not giving them their own film right away-- ESPECIALLY if there is implied (or shamelessly blatant) smoochies in the other films. Part of me wants all of the things, but another part isn't too eager to have TOO much canon, if that makes any sense.

ETA: It's interesting being able to pick and choose and create a fan origin story from what we know from Avengers and what we can dig up from the comics, but I think it will be kind of nice to have a canon version of events in this specific Marvel universe.

Totally with ya, and I actually think it's neat that they might just make smaller appearances in a few movies rather than have a big role in a movie every few years. But we'll see what ends up happening. It's still very very early in the Cap2 sequel (they're still actually writing it), so who knows, maybe there won't even be room for C/N--from the podcast it sounds like this movie could be PACKED with subplots and new characters.

Marvel would be crazy not to cash in on all the Clint/Natasha love. They're all over social media so there's no doubt they have seen the huge C/N fandom that the movie spawned. I'm trying to play it cool because 2014 is a long way off and who knows what will happen until they start filming but inside I'm squeeing and starting the Master Assassin Prayer Circle of hope. Widow and Hawkeye's relationship seemed more based on friendship and respect than intimacy in The Avengers, but could we see that progress in the future? Renner thinks so, and suggests things might get a bit rough if they ever did decide to have a romp between the sheets..

YES. I'll take it, I'll take it! I thought Cap, Widow, and Hawkeye were pretty awesome together anyway. One of my fave pictures from the movie is the three of them walking onto the jet together.

I am okay with more Clint/Natasha in pretty much any and all forms. As someone said above I'm hoping from a writing perspective (especially if Joss is involved) they're too important to kill off (I wrote off the X-Men cinematic universe after what they did to poor Scott) but not important enough to be involved in triangles and quadrangles and whatnot. In that respect maybe smaller roles in other movies are better than one big SHIELD movie... I dunno. I still think a Fury/SHIELD movie would be awesomesauce as well.

In the meantime, here's hoping that the guy who plays Bucky stays busy with other projects ;) Ship issues aside, I find the character (at least the movie and cartoon versions -- maybe he's better in the comics) quite irritating.

I was just thinking about this possibility today. Actually, my thought process was more like:

"I can't wait for Captain America 2.

Wait. It should be set in modern times.

Wait. Cap works or does something with S.H.I.E.L.D. in modern times.

Yep yep yep, I think it was Screen Rant that was saying today that they expect Cap2 and the SHIELD movie people have been talking about may end up being one and the same. I loved Widow and Hawkeye as part of the group so I'm cool with seeing that continued.

I will take my Clint/Natasha wherever I can get it. I can't speculate, as I haven't seen anything other than Iron Man 1 & 2 (where do they fit in canon anyway?) and the Avengers. I would love to have a Black Widow origin movie, either separate or combined with Hawkeye. I think it would be a nice change of pace from all the flashy superhero stuff. For sure I. Want. MOAR! :)

the way I see it, if you have a Black Widow origin story, you have to include Clint, Fury and SHIELD, which also happily means Coulson too! in other words, to me it seems that it has to be a SHIELD origin story, since all of their fates are tied together. I just worry that Marvel won't be able to schedule this in within the next few years, which would mean they'd have to rely more on other actors to play Clint, Natasha, etc. in their earlier years. and that thought bums me out considerably.

I also think Joss should write it because Joss is GOD.

I don't have a lot of real life friends who are involved in fandom type stuff at all. Yet every, single one I've talked to thought they already had something going on in the movie. I don't think one person who's discussed the movie with me thought it was just a work relationship, so that would be awesome if they addressed it!

That's awesome. I think that seems to be the general consensus too. I've heard a few people say "well, thank God there wasn't any romance" or that Clint and Natasha were just friends etc., and I think that's a prefectly valid way to read the film, but in my mind there is C/N subtext plastered all over the place. Heck, you could practically rename it "The Avengers: Or that Movie Where Someone Tries to Mess With Clint Barton and Natasha Romanoff Moves Heaven and Earth to Get Her Man Back."

Oh man, if that's true, that'd be really good news! That's the next best thing to Hawk/Widow/Fury/SHIELD getting their own movie, and it's more realistic to hope for. Crossing my fingers!

I agree, I don't know how realistic it is to think that we'd actually get a SHIELD or Black Widow and/or Hawkeye movie, I think them being present in other films is much more likely. And Captain America is the best one to put them into since he's now out of his own time and it will be good to have some friendly faces with him; Thor's out of the question with it being set on Asgard, and Iron Man can definitely carry his own movie.

So yay for them being in Captain America if this is true, I liked seeing Natasha and Steve working together in TA, and having Clint interact non-mind controlled with Steve will also be interesting to see. As well as just more Natasha and Clint in general.

I'm conflicted about this, because I want a Black Widow movie but I also want her origins to be shrouded in mystery. Can they make a S.H.I.E.L.D/ Black Widow movie AND a Cap movie? On the other hand having the Black Widow and Hawkeye show up as awesome spy!bros for cameos in each of the other movies would be fun (because you know they're getting up to super-secret spy stuff off-screen that is just too secret for us to know about).

Also, if they keep churning out movies with American white dudes as leads I might have to keep my money and just rent the DVDs. Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, She-Hulk! Let's see some awesome ladies with their own damn movies.

This would be a perfect way to get more Clint and Natasha, imo. I've been torn about the possibility of them getting their own individual origin movies because while I'd love to see more of them, it would also necessitate a whole bunch of footage of them not being with each other, and getting a bunch of other characters involved that I don't care about so that they can pretend it's a 'real' movie and not just a romance between Black Widow and Hawkeye. >.> I don't want them to throw in a bunch of messy things -- Winter Soldier, Mockingbird, and other comic book canon crap -- that I pretty much want to pretend doesn't exist.

However, as a side story in other movies, it's perfect because then all their scenes together really COUNT (like in Avengers), and there won't be room to throw in stupid love triangles and other undesirable elements. allisnow's totally right (I hope) that Clint and Natasha are important enough to not kill off, but not important enough to bother with a lot of other crap. In a way, killing one of them off would be preferable (imho) to seeing them split up to pair off with Bucky and Bobbi. I mean, if they die, fandom will just bring them back a la Phil Coulson. No sweat.
