I'm in awe of people who've already been able to get Age of Ultron fics written. In the UK we got it earlier than most places and I'm no where near finished with any lol. Here's a bunch i've discovered so far, though AO3:

fragile flesh and crumbling bone by andibeth82 aka [livejournal.com profile] findthesea (General Audience)
Summary: Natasha makes fun of him for it sometimes, but Clint knows it’s only because she means it. “You always pick up strays. It’s what you do.”

Vigil by [livejournal.com profile] alphaflyer (Teen & Up)
Summary: Pietro and Wanda, waiting.
It's not Clint and Natasha, but I dare you not to appreciate this brother-and-sister-ness.

Holding Out For A Hero by [personal profile] alphaflyer (Teen & Up)
Summary: Cooper Barton pens an essay about his father; Laura does damage control. Clint helps (sort of).

Aunt Natasha versus the World by SneakyHufflepuff aka [livejournal.com profile] hufflepuffsneak (General Audience)
Summary: by Lila Barton (ages 5-15)
Because it's cute. Love the text message bit the best!

Risk Management by thecompanystore (General Audience)
Summary: Laura's first impression of Natalia Romanova is that she looks just like the 'cute kid' her husband's been going on about for nearly two years now, ever since he came home from that one assignment with a dozen minor stab wounds, a not-so-minor gunshot wound, an official reprimand, and one defecting Russian spy in tow.

Hands by which we take hold by argyleam (Teen & Up)
Summary: Lila Barton is the same age that Natasha was when the Red Room took her.

one day you'll find you already know by cirque (General Audience)
Summary: He takes her home, which is a first.
Lady friendship for the win

Georgic by argyleam (Explicit) Laura/Natasha, Clint/Laura
Summary: Natasha on the Barton farm, with Laura.
Didn't see f/f appearing from the Barton family farm situation? This makes you think twice.

one of these crazy old nights by topaz119/topaz (Explicit) Laura/Clint
Summary: “Oh, nice,” Laura said. “A smartass.” His hand was warm and strong and calloused, but it was gentle where it was wrapped around her own hand.
A steamy how they might have met.

RE: recs
You're super productive :) And I didn't leave AOU particularly interested in the twins, but Vigil changed that to definite interest.

Thanks -- that is the best compliment I could have hoped for. :-)

Wow, thanks for all the recs! *g*
/I'm in awe of people who've already been able to get Age of Ultron fics written. In the UK we got it earlier than most places and I'm no where near finished with any lol./ - LOL, I feel your pain, I went on the 22nd of April and I still haven't finished my Wanda fic. In my defense, I've been a bit busy, in addiction to the fact that I went on some epic meta binge-reading: I had to dissect the movie to its every moving part first to understand how everything ticked. Now I feel like I can start making my own modifications. :D

RE: recs
Ooo, and thanks for all the meta! I've given up on tumblr, so I've seen hardly any of these *opens a bunch of links to start reading in a minute*. I had to write meta to get my head settled after AOU, but really i'm just a slow writer ;) Also it's funny because there are maybe three canon compliant fic ideas that I want to write and then I'm just going to end up writing space and zombie AUs and things anyway, heh. But yes! Needing to iron out all the details and digest before writing!

RE: recs
Oh, space AU! *_* Well, canon is only the base from which we can jump off into our wildest fantasies anyway, agreed! ;)
Off to read your thoughts on the movie then! ;) - And about that meta rec post, I'm still adding other interesting meta as I find them so it might be a good idea to keep track of the post if you're interested. ;)

RE: recs
I've written a couple of space AUs already - I seem to have a thing for them at the moment - but I have a Firefly-Avengers fusion that i'm constantly working on that I want to eventually finish. And will probably end up writing other space AUs as well. Because AUs! I catch myself watching films and going, 'Now if the Avengers were in this 'verse...'

Ooo, yes, will check on that then :)

RE: recs
Firefly-Avengers fusions are my drug! *g* (In fact I illustrated one during the last marvel_bang), ah, now I kind of want to pick your brains to know which character has which role. (Actually, speaking about brains, do you need to brainstorm or something? 'cause I'd be totally up to so some cheer-leading! ^^)

Re: recs
Ooo, link me! Can't remember what I read in the last big bang :)

Oh I have thoughts and plots and am more than happy to ramble on about this 'verse :D I've chatted about it lot with [livejournal.com profile] franztastisch but more people to prod me into keeping writing the thing would be fantastic, because it's a huge, sprawling mess and I struggle with finishing high word count fics.

But yes, it's not a straight fusion as in each Avenger fills a Firefly person's role - in this Serenity still exists and the Avengers are their own, seperate crew, so technically it would be a crossover but I have no plans for them to meet. On this ship Steve is the Captain. Tony is the mechanic - he finds Steve living in this old Firefly in a junkyard and basically talks his way into making it fly, and if it flies you need a crew, and so it snowballs. He drags Rhodey in as pilot. Next comes Clint - Clint is a companion. (I have thoughts and feelings on this, including Inara Serra originally had a bow untul the final edit of Serenity *grins*) They hire Natasha as scary, scary muscle, and she's had something to do with the Alliance programme that made River the way she is. Bruce is a Doctor they kind of technically kidnap this one time someone gets shot. Thor... Thor is how our story starts. Thor arrives on the ship in answer to a hiring ad, flanked by Jane and Darcy, becasue Thor fell out of the sky and the Alliance has shown up and they need to get the hell out of dodge.

My sticking points at the moment is how i'm going to resolve Thor's plotline and where/if Loki fits in, but the general theme is that there are no aliens in Firefly and you have an Alliance obsessed with 'making people better'...so what happens when you get Asgardians? But if that doesn't work out I'll have to twist it another way.

ramble, ramble, ramble ;)

RE: Re: recs
Here you go: Brooklyn Assemble by riverofnara. So awesome! ;)

/and I struggle with finishing high word count fics/ - Well, as for me I struggle even with smaller fics so I have nothing but admiration for you! *g* (Then again, it must be my graphic-oriented brain LOL)

/so technically it would be a crossover but I have no plans for them to meet/ - Oh, interesting...

/Clint is a companion. (I have thoughts and feelings on this, including Inara Serra originally had a bow untul the final edit of Serenity *grins*)/ - What?!? OMG, I need to hear *all* about this! *_*

/They hire Natasha as scary, scary muscle/ - Eheh, perfect role is perfect! And yes on her connections with River!

/where/if Loki fits in/ - Of course he fits in, I want Loki too! :D:D

Yay, let's ramble, I'm definitely up for it! I'm very curious about the Asgardians role too. (It weirdly makes me think of Asimov, how he said that his stories are mostly free of Aliens because his publisher didn't care for them, makes you wonder what they would have been like if things had been different.) Also, what the heck was Cap doing in a junkyard and why Tony would need his help to fly a ship? *is confused*

RE: Re: recs
I really want Laura fic and I really like yours. Unfortunately when I searched AO3 for Laura Barton the top fics where Clint/Pietro. (I did not expect this; I probably should have expected this.) And then I got to yours and it was YES this is the fic I'm looking for :D

Re: recs
I think I kind of got annoyed with the 'oh, wife and mother, how boring' attitude that always seems to pop up, because my subconscious came up with this whole life for her that I would really like to get written down, so we'll see how that goes.

Re: recs
I think it was that there's so much we don't know, and that there's space for that to be other or as well as the role of wife and mother. I want to write SHIELD Laura and carnival Laura, and I want to read military Laura and farming Laura and university Laura and...all the possibilities! Look forward to seeing what you've come up with.

RE: Re: recs
I decided, the first time I ran into that "ugh they wrote a housewife" type of comment that making the assumption she was a housewife (not that there is a thing in the world wrong with her being a housewife and mom) said a hell of a lot more about the people making the comments and their ideas than the movie or her character. :D

And then I "realized" that (headcanon) she totally works for SHIELD. ;)
[identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com on May 16th, 2015 12:20 am (UTC)
Re: recs
Hah, my first reaction to the 'just a housewife' attitude was 'clearly, you have never actually met a military wife, especially a Special Forces one' (which I think we can roughly correlate to a SHIELD-spouse) because they would have chewed you up and spit you right back out for *that*.

I thought about her being SHIELD (because she certainly rolled with it all, even not!dead!yet!Fury in her barn) but my brain ran off with it being her farm and hasn't come back yet. :D

RE: Re: recs
It all circles back to the lack of female representation in films I think - having Laura be 'just' a housewife and then show us how important that is, because it is, would be excellent - but when you don't also have other shades of female lives you get the 'just a housewife, ugh' reactions going on and then I feel the urge to make Laura more than that. (Which, we have other ladies, but minimal screentime to date.) And then I wonder if that's also a bad reaction and I should write the thing where she is 'just' a housewife, because sod that noise.

I think the canon is most likely to end up with her being a Military Wife, and I think that'd be interesting to explore. I'm not familiar with this though, so I've wondered off into 'she works for SHIELD' and other territory...but have ended up researching the US military anyway because I wondered if mayb she was military herself before SHIELD. Oh, the black hole of research *grins*.

RE: Re: recs
THIS. While it would've been great if we'd seen Laura produce some valuable intel or something in the movie, the way fandom has been talking about her annoys me.

Especially the people who've been saying "OMG, Clint leaves his wife and children for long periods of time to do a dangerous job? How irresponsible! What a horrible husband! Their marriage must be awful!" Uhh, what do people think happens in real life military families where one partner is on active duty????

(and why are people using "Ugh, Clint is being so irresponsible" to bash Laura???)
