Clint's car?
Today I just happened to go past a bookstore and just happened to buy the tie-in comic Fury's Big Week (which I'm going to use most of, and ignore other bits, but anyway). One of the panels had Clint driving a car, and given he got woken up in the middle of the night and told to drive, I'm going to guess that it's actually his.

Also, it doesn't exactly seem like a SHIELD company car...

My question is: anyone have an idea what kind of car it is? I've done some poking about and looking at cars, so my guess is possibly an old Pontiac, or maybe an old Thunderbird, but I'm the opposite of a car person, so I have noooooo clue.

Any ideas?

I know nothing about cars. (Seriously, if I ever saw, God forbid, like a hit and run, I would be useless to the cops.

Cops: What kind of car was it?

Me: It was blue.

Cops: Sedan or coupe?

Me: ...yes?

Cops: ...)

However the thought of Clint driving around the desert (?) in a muscle car pleases me :D

Also... 'Fury's Big Week'?

Comics are weird.

*laughs* Oh, man, I'd totally be the same.

And yess, it was the desert! He's driving through New Mexico in that panel. And it pleases me, too. It's so very...him.

Oh! Fury's Big Week is a tie-in comic with the movies, putting IM2, Thor, and Incredible Hulk as all happening in the same week, which both makes sense in some cases (where Coulson has to run off to in IM2 + Fury's reference to 'bigger things happened in the south-west' to Stark + none of the movies otherwise reference each other, which'd make sense if they all happened roughly at once) and...doesn't in other cases.

But it does also partly explain why Nat's so wary of Banner - in the comic, just after the Stark Expo, Fury told her to chase after Banner, putting her in the line of danger (with buildings falling on her) twice in a couple of days, and seeing first-hand the damage and terror. But then in the Avengers, she has that rage pointed at her, so it's already building up on her "!!!!" that she got from that week.

It's...mostly a fun comic, but some bits make me side-eye the authors, so I'm picking and choosing what I'm using from it.

I remember there was one panel where Clint asked why Natasha couldn't babysit the Tesseract instead of him, and Fury said something along the lines of "I know better than to put that woman in an underground base full of men." It kind of rubbed me the wrong way, especially since the artists can't resist sexualising Natasha at every turn.

Clint's response was something like "Can't argue with that," which still rubs me the wrong way but gives me shipper feels nonetheless.

There's another movie tie in comic where Clint and Nat flirt a bit. I think it's called 'The Avengers Initiative.'

*facepalm*

Because Clint's thinking 'yeah, Fury, I'd hate for any of your crack agents to end up with fractured skulls, 'cause the first one to try anything...'
[identity profile] sugar-fey.livejournal.com on July 7th, 2012 08:08 am (UTC)
Exactly. Clint knows better.
ext_36286[identity profile] allisnow.livejournal.com on July 7th, 2012 08:10 am (UTC)
Clint KNOWS.

(Cripes, I need to stop posting this late at night. Everything's making me crack up.)

-_- yeah, I was side-eyeing that so hard. Just. Not appropriate, either for a co-worker or a friend, and it really struck me as OOC on Fury's part. Not to mention just.

Ugh.

I'm basically ignoring the entire epilogue (where that exchange is) as it doesn't fit my headcanon, but that exchange is just not going to happen between two professionals discussing a woman who is BFFs (or married, or whatever Clint/Natasha are) with one of them, and you can make case for daughter-father vibes with Fury and Natasha. Not to mention SHIELD has...an awful lot of women working for them...

Then again, I don't get why Clint was complaining - he and Natasha have different skills. He's probably pulled guard duty way more than she does, as SHIELD wouldn't need him as a sniper all the damn time. Just. *throws up hands*

I was enjoying the comic (just ignoring the way they were drawing Tasha), and then whoo, sexism that makes no sense!
[identity profile] sugar-fey.livejournal.com on July 7th, 2012 08:17 am (UTC)
Yeah, it seemed really inappropriate and OOC. Not to mention that 'I don't want women in a confined space with men' doesn't make any sense when Maria Hill is in the base.

Side note: I've seen an awful lot of hate directed towards Hill for supposedly 'replacing' Coulson and it makes me sad.

By the way, do you mind if I friend you?
ext_36286[identity profile] allisnow.livejournal.com on July 7th, 2012 08:19 am (UTC)
Not to mention I seem to remember a female scientist working with Selvig. But I guess THEY'RE to be trusted not to go sleeping around with random soldiers/agents.

Poor Hill. I have mixed feelings towards her but that mainly comes from the cartoon XD
Ashen Key: London town[personal profile] ashen_key on July 7th, 2012 08:31 am (UTC)
Or being hit on and causing trouble due to being SEXY. Because - you know, I can't even finish that line of thought. Ugh.

I adore Hill, and am ignoring alllll other canons involving her <.<

It's very true! Guess the white coat dampens a girl's need to flirt with EVERYTHING IN THE ROOM.
Ashen Key: London town[personal profile] ashen_key on July 7th, 2012 08:29 am (UTC)
Exactly. And there are other female agents, and other female scientists, and just. >.<

...but they have entirely different jobs! That makes no sense. And Hill is so fabulous.

Ooh, not at all! :)
[identity profile] sugar-fey.livejournal.com on July 7th, 2012 08:34 am (UTC)
Yay, friends!

Well, Coulson and Hill have similar jobs... I've also seen a lot of fics where Coulson outranks Hill, when I'm pretty sure it's the other way round. Hill's rumoured to be taking over Coulson's 'role' of SHIELD-superhero liason/babysitter in future movies and a lot of people are upset about that. Ugh, Coulson's awesome and all, but he's a replacable character in the end. The movies don't ride on whether or not he's alive or dead.

Then again, I don't get why Clint was complaining

*puts on Shipper Hat* Hmm, um... he wanted her to be nice and safe stateside watching the glowy box while he went and did... something... more dangerous? Which I don't see happening 'cause if she found out about it she would break his face.

...and now I'm thinking about an AU where Natasha was in the lab when Loki showed up instead of Clint...
Ashen Key[personal profile] ashen_key on July 7th, 2012 08:25 am (UTC)
Yeeeeeeeeeeeah, I don't see that happening, either. Well, the epic side-eye that Natasha would give him if she caught him, that I can see.

It would be interesting, I feel! Because, canon would run very differently if Loki had himself a master spy like Natasha instead of a solider like Clint. Nat and Clint have different skillsets, different modes of operating, and so on. I haven't actually seen an AU where Natasha got heartwashed, either.

I think a Loki'd Natasha would still be able to round up an anto-SHIELD strike team for him, but yeah, I don't see her actually leading it, at least not in the same way.

I was enjoying the comic (just ignoring the way they were drawing Tasha), and then whoo, sexism that makes no sense!

Yeah, I got thrown off by that exchange too. That sudden random bit of sexism was OOC for Fury, Clint, and Natasha herself.

(And I had to do my hardest to look past the way the artist was drawing Hawkeye... his Clint looked like generic square-jawed all-American hero, and sadly not one bit like Renner. In one panel I even had problems telling Clint and Coulson apart.

But apart from those things I actually liked the comic.
Ashen Key[personal profile] ashen_key on July 7th, 2012 09:21 am (UTC)
Oh, good, it wasn't just me who sometimes had trouble telling Clint and Coulson apart! Just. Yeah, the drawing wasn't the...best, I felt. Tended to have elements of generic the way through
ext_2027[identity profile] astridv.livejournal.com on July 7th, 2012 09:36 am (UTC)
I rather liked the artist who did the first chapter - nice lines, good likenesses. I mean, I've done fan comics myself so I know it's tricky to catch the likenesses consistently and I thought he did a really good job. Shame that the New Mexico part was drawn by other guys.

(Their Natasha, I could only identify by her red hair.)

Yeah, Thor and IM2 happening at basically the same time makes perfect sense, especially with the extra Coulson scene at the end of IM2 (if I'm remembering my movies correctly; it's 1am here). I've never seen Incredible Hulk but yeah, I like the tie-in with Natasha and Banner. It would explain why she seemed kind of extra-twitchy around him in India.

Clint driving through NM in a muscle car... *goes to her happy place*
Ashen Key[personal profile] ashen_key on July 7th, 2012 08:12 am (UTC)
Yep! Coulson both goes "I'M OFF, LATER" suddenly at Tony, and then there is the scene at the end. Which I remember vaguely - I need to actually watch IM2 the whole way through, and not get annoyed at the movie's WHOO SEXY NATASHA IS SEXY b.s. (and the slut-shaming of Christine Everheart, I do have to write that fic where Christine works for SHIELD as well as for Vanity Fair, and after IM2 she and Nat get together for drinks. Because it'd make me feel better.)

And yesss, exactly, re: Natasha and Banner!

Clint driving through NM in a muscle car...

:D another reason for sharing the panel, I figured.

This fic needs to be written!

It's on my to-write list! I feel they'd get along - both are sharp, determined, snarky, good observers of people and knowing how to spin things, and how words are important.

Also, there needs to be more female-friendship in this canon. And fandom.
