NOTE: PROMPTING HAS NOW CLOSED, BUT FICS AND FANWORKS MAY STILL BE SUBMITTED THROUGH AUGUST 31ST. THANKS!

Welcome!!!! The time is now upon us. This will kick off a month's worth of prompting and fanworking and all the good things. Not sure what to do? Click below for our handy-dandy Promptathon Guide!

RULES ON POSTING SUBMISSIONS
(please read before you post! <3)

The Rules.  Just follow these three easy steps!

1. Leave a Prompt.

Prompts can be anything--simple or elaborate, words or pictures, songs or poems, lyrics or phrases. Anything that, to you, inspires a C/N fanwork. Use your imagination. Go crazy. All I ask is that you keep it tasteful and warn for anything explicit or triggery. Also, try to be as specific as you can with your prompts--this is often very helpful to those creating the fanwork.

And leave as many prompts as you want. I’m serious. Keep coming back, y’all. We want all the prompts we can possibly get Also, be sure to leave each prompt as a separate comment.

2. Wait a week.
Tailgate and chitchat and keep leaving prompts. And mull over the epic fanworks you are creating.

3. Submit C/N fanwork like there is no tomorrow.
All submissions should either be posted here or linked to this post via a comment. The nitty gritty details of posting your stuff can be found HERE. Please read before you post

Timeframe:
Prompts will be accepted starting today, Friday, July 13th (!!!) and will remain open until Friday, August 10th.  Submissions may be submitted beginning on Friday, July 20th and may continue to be submitted until August 10th.

What we hope to accomplish with all this promptathon-iness:

  • A chance to get in the game. Been wanting to jump into the C/N fanwork scene but not sure where to start? Now’s the time. There’s no length requirement on the works submitted, you can focus on drabbles and vidlets and short and sweet projects (or do longer more epic stuff if that strikes your fancy as well).  It’s really entirely up to you. We’re just hoping to provide a fun, no-pressure environment.
  • Meet new and awesome people. Because srsly, I love everyone in this bar. It's a good damn bar. Don't be afraid to say hello
  • Ship like you’ve never shipped before.
  • Tailgate when appropriate. My motto is, if something ain’t a cocktail party, you just aren’t trying hard enough. In that spirit, [livejournal.com profile] aurora_0811and I are hosting the tailgate section (which I think at this point just includes random chatter and ridiculousness, cheerleading and tomfoolery, because I doubt our comm’s talkative nature will be suppressed even during the prompting/waiting period.) So pull up a helicarrier-shaped lawnchair, crack open a cold one and settle in for the festivities. And leave prompts.

And most of all, have fun. :)

Omg whyyyyy are your prompts so fantastic?! I swear if I was more confidant in my ability to write these two I would be all over every single one lol.

Awww *twirls you*. [livejournal.com profile] lar_laughs said that she was running out of prompts to archives, so I decided to be a prompt making factory today ;) Practise makes confidence, hint hint ;D

Totally agreeing! As with anything, you have to practice. Writing is a muscle! I think this is a super supportive place to practice until you find their voices on your head.
[identity profile] chimeriques.livejournal.com on July 25th, 2012 12:53 am (UTC)
Ahhh yes, that is true! I'll think about it. These prompts just beg for something epic to be written, so I'd feel horrible if I don't do them justice lol

I have often struggled with that and I always tell myself, "If this is meant to be epic, I will find a way to write a sequel." and that often solves the problem. Promise yourself a sequel or a second chapter!
[identity profile] chimeriques.livejournal.com on July 25th, 2012 12:51 am (UTC)
Haha yes yes practice of course, but every time I sit down to write them I'm like, "wowwwww that dialogue is soooo OOC!" and I'm such a character nazi that I couldn't handle my own fic being that way. I have one sort of in the works for that cigarette prompt and then I thought about mixing the other prompt about clint already sort of loving her or at least having a healthy amount of obsession with her before he's even assigned the hit...

Idk idk! It is just so daunting, everyone here is soooo good.

The quality around here can be intimidating, yep, I get that. The amount of people that can write long, wonderful, plotty fics and I think I can't do that. Then there's the people who write really short pieces, every word cherry picked, and that has me in awe too. But you just have to say, well, I'll do what I do :) Seen that graduation speech Neil Gaiman gave that went viral online? :D

Okay, dialogue. I will attempt to help with this!

1) They don't really talk all that much in the film, so you try starting out with no dailogue at all, just how they communicate non-verbally, with nods, touchs, signals, signs. Perhaps you could then add little snippets that would compliment the non-verbal, like a shout or a well=placed name use. Fics, after all, do not have to have dialogue. It's not a rule :)

2) Crazy time - talk to yourself. This actually does work. I will talk to myself, to mirrors, to walls, to objects. I will stand up and act bits out or try to figure out how characters could move. Not the kick ass stuff, I'm not that bendable ;) But little details. Let the conversation go where it will, backtrack if it doesn't work and try different routes.

3) Rewatch the film :) Yeah, no always possible, but there's Iron Man 2 for some Natasha, that little hint of Clint in Thor, and clips on the internet.

4) Listen to other people. People all have their quirks, accents, dialects, turns of phrase, when it comes to language. Have a listen and think about how your character are going to sound. I'm British, so I want to make sure I avoid slang that wouldn't be used across the pond, for example, and also slang that our Master Assassins might not know if they're not up to speed with pop culture. I say 'shiny' a lot, which crept into my vocab from Firefly without me noticing. I also tend to use 'okay' and 'fun' a lot. What words and phrases would be common for your characters to use? And what's specific to them?

5) And practise really does help :) Just write a lot. You don't have to stick everything online, just practise.

6) Betas. Very useful people :)

Hope that gives you somewhere to start! Go ye forth and have fun :D

Ugh I can't believe I've never replied to this because I have been coming back and rereading this comment whenever I get stuck writing stuff, so thank youuuu! Totally helpful pointers, and I seem to be making progress in this fic that I don't really understand, exactly, but yay!

Boo!! It is daunting and scary! And I'm still working on that cigarette one that's sort of morphed into that prompt with something to do with Clint obsessing over Natasha's dossier before he even meets her.

Hahahahaha don't get your hopes up too high. I am in massive need of a sounding board or just a coherent outline idk. I have these bits and pieces that are all jumbled, and I'm trying to make sure it's not too cliche or cheesy or OOC, man, writing. -___-

Oh also did you ever go read that Natasha-is-maybe-legitimately-insane fic? It's so dark but I really love it?
[identity profile] workerbee73.livejournal.com on July 25th, 2012 01:00 am (UTC)
nO! I need to! Do you still have the link? I might have misplaced it.....
[identity profile] chimeriques.livejournal.com on July 25th, 2012 01:06 am (UTC)
Oh boo! I'm actually at work right now on my phone so I can't go digging for the link, but i will find it when I get home and relink you. I know it's somewhere on this monster of a post haha. Probably before page 15? If you end up reading it before I link you let me know! It's such an interesting take on their relationship, even if it is unfinished :/
