Creative Support Group
So, there is the promptathon of glory and epic and joy with all of its lovely, lovely prompts, and then if anyone else is anything like me (um, please? don't leave me alone...) then not only are you still poking at prompts, but also at pre-promptathon fics. And oh, you still have to find time to read everyone's, and do that pesky thing known as Real Life...

So thus, I declare the second Creative Support Group post open!

Come flail and squee and commiserate, ask for help and opinions, tantalize the rest of us with snippets, pull up a chair and ponder how, with all of the rope!kink going on, we still don't have a fic that actually involves Natasha tying Clint up...

You know, among other things ;D

My questions of the day that my Google Fu could not solve were related to Eric Selvig's actual title - since marvel and marvel movies wikis list him as 'Dr. Eric Selvig, a Professor of Theoretical Astrophysics', so is the guy a Doctor or a Professor? - and questions on the names of sleep wear for women in America, which somehow led to [livejournal.com profile] sarea_okelani creating an underwear chart.

Which is to say, I am working on filling some promptathon prompts :D And woefully neglecting my marvel big bang *whistles innocently*.

ROPE!FIC! Ahem.

Complicated question.Technically he's both, and it's tricky etiquette because there's no one-size-fits all. I'd say about 90% of my college professors were PhDs, so technically doctors, but they preferred to be called "Professor so-and-so" as opposed to "Dr. so-and-so." Think about Charles Xavier from X-Men--he's got multiple PhDs, but he goes by Professor Xavier, not Dr. Xavier. So I guess it depends on what you think Selvig would prefer.

totally unnecessary angst, help
I vow and promise and pinky-swear that I'm working on like twelve fics. But every time I sit down to write my brain just keeps going back to all of this horribleness and mayhem in Colorado, and I just feel so sad for humanity that I just feel guilty trying to write fic. And then I remember that that's stupid, because in times like this you're supposed to do the things that make you happy, because otherwise the bad people win.

IDK friends. Please to spam me with cute pictures/gifs to fix my feelings? :(

Nope, no guilt. You do whatever makes you happy. I'm a "cling to fandom" girl (which explains my current fanfic output, as IRL I'm dealing with various stress and health issues) but you do whatever *HUGS*

Also, dailypuppy is my current go-to website when feeling miserable.

If you can't write, then you can't write and that's fine, but you've got nothing to be guilty about. May as well feel guilty for living, sunshine, and those that don't would never want that *hugs you*.

Have you read the fill Slippery Slope by [livejournal.com profile] jacedesbff? That's a feel good one with lots of graphics - it's about Clint and Natasha sticking posters and stuff on each other's walls. It makes me laugh ;)

I don't think that (objectively) there's any reason to feel guilty for continuing to do what makes you happy or feel better (and I think you're absolutely dead-on right about otherwise bad people will win) - that said, if you're not feeling like writing, that's entirely ok, too.

I have too many WiPs. Way. Too. Many. And then the promptathon has gone and added a bunch of new ones that OMG I HAVE TO WRITE, REALLY and *cradles head*

Including the AU where Natasha is a spy thriller novelist. That? that is all of your fault. Everyone. Your fault. (It won't be finished by the prompathon is closed, so it'll have to be a late entry to the community, oops.)

Including the - actually, no, it was around already, it just there was a prompt that'd fit it. But my whacked out, dark, kinda depressing AU where Natasha is Anastasia Romanova. I keep getting flashes for it, and I want to finish it, because it has Feelings attached to it now, and Natasha's theme of reclaiming herself and spinning herself to something new, and also her and her sisters (my Natasha always has sisters of some description, be they blood or choice), and, really, I just want to finish it because of a single line, and if that's not sad, I don't know what is:

This is not untrue: Anastasiya Nikolayevna Romanova is killed in a Siberian cellar with her family when she is seventeen years and twenty-nine days old.

And...IDK. Then I get depressed with it, and go and curl up with an AU where there is no Red Room (be it novelist!Natasha, or a Natasha whose parents lived and so she's a widowed Russian philologist who gets tangled up in SHIELD anyway) to cheer myself up, or I poke at the current big WiP which is a fic in dictionary format. So, Clint/Natasha's relationship as written alphabetically instead of chronologically. It's brilliant fun, even as there are unexpected FEELINGS and-

And I completely understand the too many fics, before the promptathon I started one that's a Who/post-Avengers!movie crossover but then I read some prompts and decided to sideline that for the moment.

Then on Saturday I was the Ren Faire and got slapped with a Avengers story where Loki sends the team to the Middle Ages and everyone except for Thor and Clint hate it there...

My story is the 'Captain Tightpants' prompt and I'm trying to fit that in with a prank!sub-plot as well, it's giving me head!desk moments but I guess that I'm so afraid of failing this awesome pairing that it's hindering me a bit...

any suggestions?

Stop worrying and write!

Very unhelpful, I know, but I find worrying too much while writing hinders things, because then you get too worried about everything to actually get anywhere. Just...take them as they are in your head, write, and then polish later.

And also look at why Natasha isn't co-operating - do you need to do something else with her instead of what you are trying to write? Just need to grit your teeth and get the character to do what you want? Try one or the other, maybe.

*coughs, and gets down off the Pompous Writer's Box*

But then the promptathon happened and I somehow ended up taking on 5 more prompts and so far I've finished one, have three at some stage of completion and one just kind of floating around in the great beyond waiting for that bunny to come hopping back. Two prompts written.

Two prompts looked over by a beta (huge hugs to [livejournal.com profile] allisnow because my regular beta couldn't look at them for a couple of weeks and I don't HAVE a couple of weeks, now do I?) but only one is close to an ending while the other is a few scenes away (and can I just say that I'm glad that my Natasha-as-Anastacia fic isn't at all full of stuff to research, the way that [livejournal.com profile] ashen_key's is!).

One prompt getting BIGGER AND BIGGER in my head. This may be an "after promptathon" story for me.

Five prompts set up in individual screens in Google Docs, waiting for more words than just the prompt.

Two pages away from being done with the archiving (which means you guys have slowed down - shame on you!) which means I'll probably pick up another three prompts.

I figured it out the other day and I have four hours to write every weeknight evening. It's enough to make me want to quit my job and find an overpass near open internet! Because the promptathon gives me FEELINGS! SO MANY FEELINGS! And thinky thoughts. Lots of thinky thoughts.

And then I look like this:

(This is because you are sensible, and haven't been lured by shiny possibilities of lost memories creeping back in and metaphors involving stones in snowballs and you are, possibly, capable of going 'NOPE, NO RESEARCH FOR ME'. I am not. It's very annoying ;_;)

And that gif is REMARKABLY ACCURATE! I have nine pages of prompts I didn't want to lose, I've written four, and I'm poking at...three? four? IDK, I lose count and then get shiny ideas.

(reincarnation fic someone prompted? Well, I happen to love Years of Salt and Rice with its reincarnation and soul-groups rather than soulmates and IDEK what will come out of that mix...)

And, you know, needless to say that I look forward to what your brain is coming up with :D

H'okay'so.

Guys. YOU GUYS. I don't even know what to do with myself with all this. (But I'm thinking this group is a brilliant idea and something I desperately need.)

I started writing down ideas for this (kind of possibly massive) back-story of doom fic in May, which I didn't start really writing on until June (for Camp NaNoWriMo) - and now it's all just ballooned out into (and I'm trying to itemize because most of it's all just running together in my Scrivener):

The Major Backstory Fic (it's pretty much my headcanon in fic form and one of the biggest problems I'm having is figuring out what needs to be separate stories because the main bit is supposed to be my Big Bang entry) but it has:
-- their pre-SHIELD history (which may be told through post-movie Coulson angst-fic)
-- the obligatory "how they met/how he didn't kill her" bits (which might be turning into them running away from other bad guys all through Paris)
-- a mission involving Pandora's box
-- a whole programming-gone-wrong she's a ballerina section (that would fill one of the prompts almost to a tee if it weren't all wrapped up in the rest and not gonna be done in time)
-- a five-times birthday fic
-- some random one-word prompts from a friend that detail other missions in the interim
-- ::coughcoughtheobligatoryundercoverinabdsmclubficcoughcough::

Then there's a whole big handful of fics-in-progress:

- one where they all think Nat's dead because Fury lied to her
- an angsty baby!fic of doom (plus a follow up story that will have to happen and the "prequel" that is already written just not posted)
- a sort of tangentially Clint/Natasha fic that's mostly about Darcy dealing with PTSD and sleeping with everyone (mostly literally)
- a fic I'm co-authoring with Sidhera over on AO3 that's just fun undercover smut :D
- the Hogwarts AU I'm also co-writing with [livejournal.com profile] kadollan for the Marvel Big Bang
- A Brave AU
- a post-movie piece about Darcy, Jane, Pepper, and Betty

THEN the prompt-a-thon happened.

- I'm nearly done with the Pern AU
- there's a soulbond fic that'll actually fill several prompts I've started
- there might be a dark!fic I've got percolating
- some kind of fierce Mama!Natasha piece

I'm seriously contemplating taking a day off work to go hide out at Panera with the internet *turned off* (god help me) just to get some of this done! AND THE OLYMPICS START THIS WEEKEND!!! ::headdesk::

Hi, I am Anuna and I am Clint/Natasha addict.

Ever since you saw me here first (in a post similar to this one) I have written roughly 25K of words about these two super hot badass people, in span of several weeks (Three? Four? I don't know); my brain has been taken over and possibly even unmade AND I REGRET NOTHING.

Also? I haven't felt this welcome in a new fandom, like, ever. You people are fantastic!

Planning to write following:

*AU in which Clint and Natasha are social workers. Blame [livejournal.com profile] inkvoices. seriously, I have never met such a shameless enabler. Natasha is kind of do things by the book, don't get too attached person, because she learned you just can't rely on emotions, they will eventually lead into pain and hurt and they're just not safe. Clint was raised in the system, he was passed between several foster families until he was lucky enough to find people who accepted him the way he was, taught him that differences and even disabilities don't make you weak, and basically raised him into a person who is now trying to help kids similar to himself.

*a crossover with Castle. in which Fury is secretly married to Captain Gates. (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] inkvoices! Again! :P)

*a fic in which Natasha learns what she likes as Natasha, not as one of too many identities she had to play for Red Room and everyone else who hired her. Clint knows how to help her. (awesomely inspired by awesome [livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch

*a backstory fic with Clint, circus and guitar.

*additional ficlets to Kobayashi Maru (http://archiveofourown.org/works/465017?show_comments=true#comments) because I really like this AU, I like writing Natsha as a fierce badass Momma and Clint as an adorable Daddy. Also, awesome uncles!

*random team fics, because team love is love. And they're all so much FUN to write!

I have a confession to make.

I've only ever completed a "plot" type story once (and I wasn't entirely thrilled with it.)

I'm *bad* at complete story arcs.  I can do scenes, moments, introspections, but plotty things - not so much.  I'm working on my C/N Big Bang story, which is kind of like a plotty thing, but also kind of not.  Because I'm essentially putting all my headcanon together to tell their backstory leading up to the movie, I already have a set-down chain of events and know where they'll end up.  There's a TON of things that happen in that time period (because in my head they've been partners for a long time - something like 8-15 years, but I don't know for certain yet until I get more put in.)

I know it's multiple stories, told in different ways (some incidents show up in some 5-times fic, a couple are going to be prompt fills here, and one or two missions are definitely distinct, sideline stories that can be written and posted later and independently) but I'm having a devil of a time organizing the rest - and that needs to happen because the first part of this is going to be my fill which is due the end of October.  (That sounds so far away.  I know it's not.)

Is there anyone who's got the plot-oragnizing fu who would be willing to help me out?  There could be virtual cookies and coffee and twirls (not to mention my undying gratitude) involved...
