ALL THE THINGS FRIDAY.
Time for a good, old-fashioned hoedown of spammage and silliness and REALLY IMPORTANT STUFF.

So much various and sundry it almost won't fit under a cut....WARNINGS FOR HIGHLY PROBLEMATIC EVERYTHING. (this is why I should not be allowed to eat carbs. you give me a bagel in the morning and i get delusions of grandeur. going back to green things and protein shakes, stat.)

And I love each and every one of you. Seriously the awesomest ever.

THE FIC RECS--
Behold:

Master List of all Promptathon fanworks.  Master List, Part 2 now with more delicious everything!

We have dozens upon dozens of incredible fics and fanworks and I keep adding more every day. I'm still working on getting caught up myself. We've got such amazing authors in this fandom, y'all. Grab a tasty beverage this weekend, curl up on the couch and spend some time enjoying all this good writing. And if you find something you like, leave a little love for the author (I hear they like that sort of thing). Also remember that the Promptathon is staying open through August 31st, so keep on bringing the awesomeness to the table!!!

THE RANDOM--
Still working through my Bourne Legacy feels (and there are many). I'm guessing I'm not the only one. Are our non-US peeps starting to see the film as well? Reactions?

[livejournal.com profile] bob5fic, I just want you to know that I watched Dahmer last night FOR YOU. And the hair was atrocious but I powered through. And wow yes, disturbing as hell but incredibly acted. I was having flashes of Gary Oldman in full-on chameleon mode. Seriously impressed.
(BUT THE HAIR WAS AWFUL.)
((I'M NOT GETTING OVER THAT ANY TIME SOON.))

THE PRETTY--
You know I can't resist the pretty pretty pictures. It's inspiration, dammit!!!

Oh, I think I should be more worried then, if I'm going to survive The Unusuals. (and how I should get it, considering that I live in the middle of European nowhere. LOL.) Thank you for the rec! Hurt Locker is a must see, though, so I'll just make myself watch it. (Hm, could you compare it to something else war - genre? Like, Band of brothers, that's something I enjoy, oddly enough.)

I ordered the Unusuals off of Amazon after it disappeared off of Netflix streaming. Trust me, SO worth the money to own it.

I can't really compare Hurt Locker to another war movie because I stopped watching "realistic" war movies after I had an emotional meltdown after watching Platoon back in 1986. Apparently I have a bit more childhood trauma left over from my dad going to Vietnam when I was a baby than I realized. (It's all good, he came back) As a result, I pretty much don't watch any war movies set anywhere between WWII and the present. What I can tell you is the movie is basically a character study of three guys in a bomb disposal unit. And that even with my issues around war, I've watched it twice now (It's been all over cable the past couple of weeks because Bourne Legacy is out now, so they're showing old Renner movies here in the states).

*nods* I think I'll be able to handle that, it's actual fighting and killing that upset me way more. I have bit of personal trauma that's war related as well (Bosnia, Croatia, 1990s, it was not that long ago). I couldn't watch The Pianist, for instance. I have no problem with BoB, but I couldn't handle The Pacific. As long as there aren't torture scenes, I should be okay.

I think I'll get my hands on that! As soon as there's moneyz to get it with :D

Also, it's funny. people here don't know who Jeremy Renner is, most of them, lol. Me and my friend who's not in fandom, but certainly is a fangirl are probably two most excited people in this whole country when it comes to the Bourne movie. I'm special, hehe :D

No torture scenes.

But they are called to deal with body bombs, where a person is used to deliver the bomb. One living fellow with a vest full of explosives strapped to him, one dead body with explosives surgically implanted (and that's a bit of a gory scene). I was OK with the second only because I've watched so much CSI and Bones on TV that I've gotten used to gore.

*raises hand* Bones trained me well, too! I can deal with that. I'm much worse with scenes like in The Pianist - Nazi soldier walking behind people and randomly shooting some of them in the back of their heads, and skipping others. That's the type of stuff I can't deal with very well.

I think I've seen the scene with a guy and vest - bomb somewhere on YT; and seriously, don't worry about spoiling me. I'm a spoiler whore, lol.

I'm going to second the rec for The hurt Locker. I shied away from it for the longest time b/c I'm not a big fan of straight-up war films and I was worried that it was gfoing to be too graphic and/or preachy for my tastes, but OMG it's amazing. Like srsly on my top ten films list (not even couting the Renner factor). Just an amazing film. And not a downer film either (at least I didn't think som which was one reason I'd been avoiding it.)
