ATTF: friending time.
Greetings, best bar on earth!!  Man I have missed this place. This time of year is always so crazy-busy, and there's always so much to get done that it seems to fly by in a kind of haze (I know I've pretty much been doing my own zombie walk just trying to make it through, and a huge shoutout to Bob for some much needed fic therapy; it's totally keeping my ass sane right now.)

But how goes it, y'all? [livejournal.com profile] shenshen77and I were talking the other day and she had mentioned that we hadn't had a good old-fashioned friending meme in a while, and I thought that sounded like a dandy idea. I also think we need a good impromptu dance party and a chance to chat and hang out with old friends and make new ones and just be our awesome selves.

So please come by and introduce yourself. Say a few words about how you found this place or this ship and what your interests are. Check out other people's comments. Feel free to stalk them (in a non-creepy and completely respectful way) and comment crash-- hell, this place was built on comment-crashing (you think I'm kidding but I'm not.) There is no form to fill out becuase I'm allergic to forms. Free jazz all the way, bb. ;)

ETA on the introductions: no need to go into detail on the personal stuff. share as much as you feel comfortable with. i always like being a little cautious on that front, this being the internets and all. <3

Pics, gifs, randomness, chitchat, melarkly, and general bedlam are always encouraged. I've missed you guys. <3

ALSO-- I'm posting a sign-up sheet in the comments for future ATTF posts. We have had some amazing guest hosts and I thank each and every one of you. Y'all are constantly raising the level of discourse (and squee) around here and it's awesome. So for anyone thinking about signing up-- don't be a stranger, m'kay?

Hello, everybodies!

So, decades after my brief fling with comics (X-Men, mostly) I had a fondness for superhero movies, but most of them were so meh. And then the Marvel movies came along and I found myself falling in love with all these characters I hadn't ever met before. And then came Avengers, and my love affair with Joss Whedon blossomed into a full-fledged THING for all these adorable people running around, and I found myself landing pretty hard on Natasha/Clint (although honestly, I kind of just want everybody in a pile on the biggest bed in the Tower, because d'aww.) I like badass normals, I like people working through their damage - there was no way I wouldn't have fallen in love with the pairing.

I work for a museum, I'm a married lady with cats instead of kids, and my journal is a mix of occasional fannishness, some movie and tv stuff, a whole heap of book stuff, the occasional vintage ad, and a generous dollop of RL. I'm also a quiet, lurker-y type - I don't post super-frequently, I am often Late To The Party, and I write a fic approximately once every decade. (Only a slight exaggeration. Mostly. It's over on A03 under the name Oracle Glass,) I frequently love things even if I find stuff to criticize about them. Avengers may be the biggest fandom I've ever been even marginally involved in. I love the enthusiasm and general positivity here, and I'm pretty chuffed at being able to participate, even if it's in my own quiet way.

Hey you - I love that you admit to criticizing your fandoms! Because I do it, too! I know what makes my fav show/film maybe a bit shit in a superficial way, or a bit cracky or a bit unlogical but ... doesn't mean I can't love it!

Couldn't agree more :D And hello, I felt the same about most of the superhero movies around... and then Marvel came along with X-Men and Fantastic Four and it only was uphill from there (although I was a bit underwhelmed by Thor, to be honest) :) So yeah, finding little things that rub me the wrong way is part of who I am too and what the ladies I beta for like about me ;)

Thanks for coming out to play, if only occasionally! Your friend request made me stalk your stories over to AO3 and man, you need to write more often!!! :-)
( I admit to only reading your Clint/Natasha ones; still coming to terms with the fact that I've somehow, inadvertently turned into a bit of a shipper, but where's the harm, right? ;-) )

I adore you for writing Grease Smudge when you do write! That gets you all kinds of hearts and stars in my book! I'll wait months between fic if I need to!

The slogan of my life should be "late to the party." I think that is what I'm going to have written on my gravestone. I'm the lurker that occasionally pops out of hiding to insert random comments. I found this bar by searching on lj I think. Whenever I join a fandom I always join a lj community associated and I try to shoot for a shipping community (because they are usually more hardcore and they always get the best news). Luckily for me I happened to also love this couple and the characters individually.

I watch an insane amount of tv and I read a shit ton. Some of my previous/current fandoms include Harry Potter (originally Harry/Hermione, although now I love Hermione/Draco), BSG (Kara/Lee), Twilight, The Host, Supernatural, Fringe (Lincoln/Alt-livia), Community, Parks and Rec (Ben/Leslie), Friday Night Lights, True Blood (Eric/Sookie), TVD (I don't ship them romantically, but I love anything scenes with both of the Salvatore bros), Tin Man (DG/Cain), The Hunger Games, Grey's Anatomy (Cristina/Owen), and many more. It's actually kind of depressing to see all of the stuff I'm invested in. So when I say this bar is the best fandom I've been in, it's a high complement because I've floated around numerous communities. This one is definitely the most awesome.

My journal is sporadic at best. I'm trying to review every Renner movie I see and I occasionally post about other fandoms or real life. I'm currently a grad student, pursuing my Masters in history (any Irish history buffs in this bar? lol). So, my time is tied up with thesis writing, although fandom is my outlet of choice to chill. I want to be a high school or middle school history teacher. I would enjoy some new friends on my list, feel free to friend me if you want.

Harry/Mione, eh. Should have known EVIL ONE! *rofl* I'm one of them pesky Ron/Mione shippers :P Gawd, were you part of the early-naughties fan wars? It was horrible and stupid and bloody, but DAMN it was GOOD! Have you read Lori Summers stuff? Her PoU Universe? YOU HAVE TO! I have always disliked H/Hr with a PASSION but ... that Universe is basically my #1 fan fic EVER.

Dramione I liked as well, and some of the good classic ff's I still enjoy (WE'LL ALWAYS HAVE PARIS *ugly tears*) but ... Draco/Ginny ... damn, I love D/G :D

Uhm ... random Potter babble xDDDDD

Irish history, eh. I've read a fair bit as the place holds a special corner in my heart hostage, but can't hold myself out as an expert. My personal experience is limited to the IRA ceasefires and peace negotiations of the mid-90s (I was posted to the UK as a political officer, and my portfolio included Northern Ireland and constitutional developments). I met a number of the players at the time (Marty McGuiness, Now-Lord David Trimble, John Hume, Ian Paisley jr, some of the ex-IRA and UVP/PUP leaders). But that's a pretty specialized time period and I haven't kept up much with developments since then, due to job changes.

It's actually kind of depressing to see all of the stuff I'm invested in. I think that's why I don't make lists anymore. It IS depressing!

I've got this thing about history. I buy history textbooks from time to time, just for the fun of reading them. I've never centered on any one time or civilization but my goal right now is to learn more about actual world history and not the stuff they feed us in our history classes in the States. It embarrasses me that I can't tell you the kings of England or why Europe is divided the way it is. Got any good books you recommend?

I stumbled into this fandom when I read Anuna's Avenges/Castle crossover fic. Imagine my delight when I found this fantastic place:)

hi! I'm wander_lu or just lu.

I'm an A+ lurker who finally came out to play after I couldn't contain my love for Bee and Bob's fics.

Clint and Nat. What can I say, I think I have a thing for seriously messed up personalities who insist to persist. Seriously though, I've fallen /hard/ for this ship. (I might need help if Nat/Bucky becomes canon in winter soldier) :''O

other stuff: I'm a college student studying film and production who refers to becoming a "real person" with a "job" in actual air quotes. besides nat and clint, peter and oliva from fringe are my only other current otp. fave shows of all time include, fringe, bsg, and alias, I love the color pink, and my daemon would be the north american grey wolf.

newish to LJ and still figuring out how it works but hopefully I'll have time to read through your lovely comments and chat it up!

Can I be the one to start the afterparty?
I think I might have come a little too late to this party, but never mind. I'm here now, right? Riiight?!

Well, anyway... I lurked on here for a crazily long time before finally deciding to pluck up the courage and de-lurk myself. BECAUSE OMYGOSH THESE TWO DO THINGS TO ME THAT I CAN'T EXPLAIN.

Which may have been the best worst idea I ever had, because now I have somehow started to write fic, including a multi-chapter exercise in utilising time you don't have with ambitious ideas.

Occasionally I comment-crash, but I tend to just read stuff, giggle, and chicken out of input. BUUUUT, I am so glad I found this wonderful bar because it's all of the good things.

yep.

RL?

Well, the two words that are most commonly used by other people to describe myself are 'quirky' and 'adorable', which may or may not be thinly-veiled insults. Heh.

I get really excited about all kinds of stuff, including social justice, my family and friends, my faith and a good cup of tea.
I read too much.
I volunteer a lot.
I have a tendency to geek out.
I wear a lot of dresses, and steal a lot of my grandparent's jumpers because I have no shame.

And they let me. So it's not really stealing.

I'm also British, throw a party to celebrate whatever occasion I can, and have bunting on my bedroom walls. I really struggle to think of things that people may want to know about me that won't immediately shatter my pretty illusion of online anonymity.

So yeah. Hi!

Re: Can I be the one to start the afterparty?
Hi friend and welcome to the afterparty :D

I too am one of the quirky adorable, wearing a lot of dresses, reading way too much and geeking out kind :D So yay for being friends already :D

And love Britain, especially London, it's my favorite city in Europe (worldwide it would be a head-to-head race with Chicago :D) Also yes for celebrating every occasion possible, that's why I suggested to bee that we need an impromptu dance party ;D
[identity profile] ms-midwest.livejournal.com on December 8th, 2012 02:41 pm (UTC)
I'm late to the party but then I always am because of work schedule/timezones.

So, I've been around various fandoms for years (starting with Harry Potter a good 15 years ago, and then did some time in Lost and Doctor Who, with brief flings with others.) I found Avengers when my comic-book-loving roommate made me watch Ironman 2 (against my protests that I was not into "that superhero stuff") and I ended up with an epic girlcrush on Natasha, and then I came out of The Avengers thinking "yeah, so those two are totally a thing" and thus, found my way here.

I mostly lurk, occasionally comment, but mostly lurk I have written fic in other fandoms, but can't seem to get any traction on an idea for these two.

Other stuff...um, early 30's, American expat living in Russia (hence the timezone issues), English teacher. I tend to obsess hard one thing at a time, but also currently liking Mad Men, HIMYM, Leverage, White Collar, and always open to new suggestions!

HELLO to Russia, and glad you un-lurked! I noticed someone in Russia is reading my stories on FFN -- is that you? :-)

Why not trawl through the prompt-a-thon for plot ideas? It's closed, but the ideas linger ... Just sayin'!

Cheers from Canada, where we currently have snowflakes the size of base balls.

I'm Cali. I'm both a Clint/Natasha and Bucky/Natasha shipper. I'd love to find people that love or at least will tolerate that I ship both with an equal passion. I love the chemistry between Jeremy and Scarlett, as well as the back story (however little, it was still very informing) that Joss gave them. He honored the comic history but still found a way to add and reshape it a bit without totally changing it, when comic based movies usually change too much.

I pretty much ship Darcy with nearly everybody (Bruce, Loki, Clint, Steve). I ship Maria with Phil or Steve. I ship Tony with Pepper or Bruce. I also kind of like Steve/Natasha, but I think that might be more of a bromance.

My plot bunnies have a head cold so they can't contribute anything right now, but are accepting soup and carrot cake. I'm pretty sure they want these as bribes.... or they are really hungry.

The best way to describe me is, well my ex said I was the looniest Luna Lovegood ever and my dad says I'm a lot like Disney's Belle. So hopefully that helps.

If you take a look at my journal you will see I clearly have a Disney obsession. I'm also a Once Upon a Time fan. I love comic book movies no matter how awful some deem them ( *coughs* Daredevil, Elektra, The Punisher). I'm a sucker for musicals and romantic comedies. There's probably more but I just can't think of them.

I'm such a sucker for Darcy and I love her with nearly everyone! One day I shall her explore her more because she's fascinating!

Since I have only recently come to the comic world, I've been fascinated to research Clint and Natasha's backstory. Joss really is the master of reshaping things while still keeping the original integrity. So many props to that man!

Better late than never?
Hopefully I'm not too late to the party? Long time lurker, first time commenter. Like just about everyone here I saw this little movie called The Avengers and promptly fell in love with everyone, Hawkeye and Black Widow in particular. Like usual I went in search of some livejournal groups, because I had to know more about them/read really awesome fics, and thankfully stumbled across this amazing group :) I've been lurking for awhile, but everyone here seems so awesome and welcoming that.....I decided to stop holding up the walls and finally join in the fun!

I'm not a writer :( but I can definitely recognize a great story when I read one :) so I've vowed to leave reviews like the responsible reader I should be ;) I can provide encouragement in the form of cookies, constructive criticism, and crazy flaily fangirling ;) I do have some artistic talent....and someday I'll be confident enough to post things....but not yet ;)

Despite having a livejournal account for awhile I'm not very skilled with it, so I just ask that you have patience :) I'm in desperate need of new icons for starters.... So yeah. You guys rock and are awesome :) and....thats all I have for now *runs and hides*

Re: Better late than never?
HOWDY!!! and Welcome! I'm always so excited when people decide to delurk. This truly is the very best bar, filled with the awesomest of people. And the nicest.

And omg there is room for everyone at the table! And readers and encouragers and cheerleaders and leavers of concrit are the best. Y'all are my heroes, srsly. I think it makes the people who write and icon and do artwork and everything really try to raise their game, because the audience at this bar is incredibly discriminating and intelligent and thoughtful, and also very kind. It's like the best of all worlds. :)

And anything you need as far as how LJ works, don't be afraid to ask. People around here are happy to help. (oh and as for icons, if you just check the 'icons' tag here at the comm you can find some really great ones. <3)

YOU ROCK AND ARE AWESOME!!! AND SO GLAD YOU ARE HERE!!!

Very late to the party but one of the things I love about this bar is it is always open. :D

I had a hellacious week at work so crashed shortly after I came home Friday. Saturday I spent the entire day at the theater watching the LoTR marathon in preperation for the release of The Hobbit on Thursday night

I honestly can't remember how I found this place. I think it was because I had seen the movie, fell in love with the 'verse and especially Clint/Tasha. Watched the movie five more times and started looking for live journal communities and found this one. I also back tracked and watched IM, IM2, Thor and CA

I'm not super active since I have limited time due to some other commitments with some communities. But I am making a resolution to be more active with leaving reviews on fics because they are all awesome. I haven't written any fanfic in years (I have the technical skills but lack the creative spark to really do it justice). Am more than willing to beta though.

The only other fandom I am obsessed with is the LoTR fandom. I own all three movies on DVD and watch a marathon at least once a year. This year (yesterday) I did the marathon in the theater. Glorious! I would pay every year to rewatch this. I can't wait until Thursday for The Hobbit to come out. My co-workers think I am nuts for going to the midnight show. They thought I was nuts for doing the marathon at the theater I'd also be more than willing to do back to back marathons of the three Hobbit movies once they are done in the theaters and the LoTR movies. but the local theater I would do it in has recliners so it would be totes comfortable

Heck, I would go to a marathon of The Avengers 'verse movies. THAT would be awesome.

I've also mentioned in a couple of comments that I have three Lego kits of the Avengers I just built and have displayed in my cubicle at work. I'll have to take pictures and will post tomorrow :) I also just bought three Lego LoTR kits and will post pics of those once done if wanted

Things I like:

TV: The Amazing Race, Survivor, Criminal Minds, Iron Chef, Red Sox baseball.

Reading-I love to read. Just about everything and anything. About the only thing I won't read are westerns and Agatha Christie type mysteries.

Other fandoms: Janet Evanovich, SPN, BtVS (my first love and on-line fandom actually)

Further proof of my Clint/Tasha obsession, I recently had to put my cat to sleep. It broke my heart and I was so lonely I almost immediately went to the local humane society to adopt a new cat. I was looking for another male cat because I had only owned male cats before and planned on naming him Hawkeye. All of the cats were kinds hanging out in their cages until I walked by one. She immediately came up to the front of the cage and started chirping at me. We interacted for a few minutes and I knew it was destined. I took her home with me.

Her shelter name was Penelope, which didn't fit.

I named her Natasha but shortened it to Tasha. Which totally fits.

Bar-meet Tasha.

ADORABLE! She's got a Natasha look about her.

I've been racking my brain trying to figure out why I know your screen name (and not just because of the LEGO conversation or the Pak books) and I've decided that I must have seen you around the Buffy places I used to frequent with much more frequency. Or I'm going crazy.

Or both.

How cool to see a LOTR marathon!!!!! And right before the Hobbit! I'm debating going to see the midnight showing (and then getting up for work the next day) but I would have to go alone because all my movie-watching buddies have dropped out of midnight showings now that they're "old"... as am I, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to let go of midnight showings just yet.

I have a mad love of capable women, so I adored the glimpses of Tasha we got in IM2. I was primed to keep loving her in Avengers no matter what, but it was the way her attachment to Clint was set up that really catapulted me into manic adoration. I heart Battle Couples of all sorts, and when they're in perfect sync and sympathy with each other, like these two were on the movie . . . just, ALL THE WANT. Everything we saw, plus everything they hinted that we weren't seeing--yesyesyes. I was mostly getting my Clint/Natasha fic fix on AO3 until I finally decided to take a deep breath and try writing them myself! Then I remembered a friend mentioning this comm, and so . . . yes. I peeked in. I am so glad I did, as it seems FANTASTIC!

I'm Canadian, I teach upper elementary grades, and I currently live in a tiny village that's been graced with an overgenerous blanket of snow since October. Also, my water's been off since last night and my puppy has a brand new LOUD squeaky toy that she loves ridiculously much, so if you never hear from me after this, I have probably run away screaming into the woods to live with the wolves.

My LJ is barely even a baby because I set it up mostly to make Yuletide a little easier on my writer, then realised I could do Other Stuffs with it, too. What you see on there right now is everything I've posted to it, though eventually more fanworks will go up--Yuletide stories and treats, plus a Big Damn Fic I am working on for these two. In addition (once I start posting the Big Damn Fic) there may also be a certain number of entries covering themes I'm planning to tackle in that, if they happen to strike a chord with anyone who wants to dig into them a little more (short version: Fundamentalist Religions and Getting the Hell Out of Them. Long version is Long).

To sum up: SO happy to have found this place, and only sorry it wasn't sooner!

Welcome! The only thing that is truly unfashionable is NOT coming at all!

How far north are you? I always complain about winter here in Idaho but we don't get much snow until the first of the year and lose it by April so I really don't have much to complain about in comparison to what you have to put up with!

Everything we saw, plus everything they hinted that we weren't seeing ... Oh, how I agree with you! I love all the hinted stuff. It made me squee with joy.

Do the wolves have internet? I think that would make your decision much easier!

Um hi? I hope I'm not too late to join the party :D

I started shipping Hawkeye and Black Widow the moment I laid my eyes on Clint Barton, which was played by a fine actor (and specimen of men, cough) named Jeremy Renner, then by the chemistry he had with Natasha Romanoff. The scene they shared is one of my favorites, so little words, yet so many things unspoken.

I have a thing for a couple that is a foil, a balance, an equal to each other, whose relationship based on mutual trust and respect before love and affection, which allows them to understand each other without needing words, and I see that potential in Clint and Natasha. Since then, the two have become my OTP in the Avengers fandom, and if they don't end up together, I'd be very disappointed (which could end up with me giving up on the story). Yes, note the italics and the additional note. Yes, I have it bad. No, I don't regret it. I don't think anyone in this bar do.

So, nice to meet you all!

Welcome!!! And forgive my appallingly late response (it took a holiday for me to get my act together, lol.) Tardiness aside, it really is a great bar. <3
