Hello all and welcome to your weekend entertainment!

This week's ATTF is all about the recs.

Comment with something that you'd like to read/see. It could be a specific fic, fanvid, graphic, meta post etc that you remember but just can't quite remember the title of or no longer have a link to. It could be something that you're really in the mood for, like hurt/comfort, Avengers as family, sexy times. It could be that you've recently gotten into a new Marvel pairing (or threesome or moresome!) or you're after something classic MCU or a type of AU or comics related or...anything under the sun or the darkest of starless nights. Please post an individual comment per request, but feel free to comment as many times as you want - like we do for prompts for promptathons. Basically this is prompathon but with recs. (Oh the cleverness of the title for this week's ATTF *grins*)

The rest of us will then reply with recs. Multiple recs allowed, self recs allowed, ALL THE RECS! I have faith in the vastness of your bookmarks.

And y'know what? If you want to share things and there's no comment request for that sort of thing? REC IT ANYWAY. Because sometimes we don't know we're gonna like it until we meet it :)

If you'd like to host an ATTF, suggest ideas, or see what's coming up you can find that all of that at our ATTF SIGN UP POST!

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

It's spring, Bar! (Well, technically. I don't know about where you are, but the weather here vehemently disagrees with the change of seasons.)

But anyway, spring is our theme this weekend! I want to hear your head canons, recs, and comment fics! Does Clint pick a ridiculous bouquet of wildflowers for anyone? How about some hijinks with Avengers and baby animals, perhaps on the Barton farm? What does spring mean for the Tower or the Compound?

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

Hello, Bar!

Guess what? It's time to do talk about what one might expect to talk about in a bar: Alcohol!

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, this (belated West Coast, sorry :p ) ATTF is all about Clint, Natasha, and drinks this week.

What are your head canons, Bar? Does Natasha love vodka as much as some fanon would have us believe? Does Clint have a secret guilty pleasure for espresso martinis? Who becomes a sap when they're three drinks in, and have there ever been any booze-fueled confessions in their relationship? (Or, if you want to go the angst route, does anyone have a problem with alcohol?) Tell me all of your thoughts, Bar! Pull up a seat and bring your drink of choice.

Hello, lovely bar patrons! It is with great pleasure that I announce that we are once again running the Valentine's Day Mini Promptathon here!

Prompts will begin from February 7. Posting begins- you guessed it- on February 14.

This ATTF is for you to ask questions, squee, celebrate, chat and spread the word, for the time of joy will soon be upon us.

Happy ATTF Friday, best bar! (Hey, it's still Friday on the East Coast of NYC...)

So. Families. Long before AoU came into the mix and gave Clint his own family and backstory, we all had our headcanons as to how Clint and Natasha grew up. The bad thing about them not having their own movies is that we have no idea what kind of story the MCU had in store for them. The good news? We got to make up our own headcanons.

Do you have any favorite headcanons for our favorite assassins that you absolutely stand by? Was Natasha always an orphan, raised in the Red Room? Or did she have a family she was taken away from in Russia? Does your headcanon for Clint's family include the comicsverse of Barney and the circus, or something else entirely?

Of course, found family is one of the MCU's favorite things...and one of mine, too. It's no secret that the Avengers (especially Natasha) have found more of a place with their friends than with any family they ever had growing up.

Share your own headcanons, fic (do you have really good origin stories?) and thoughts!

Okay, technically this is ATTS but as I write this, it's still Friday on the West Coast of North America, so.

This weekend (and until the next ATTF rolls around) is your chance to unburden yourself of your troubles with pesky Works in Progress.  You know, the things that have been sitting on your hard drive forever and that won't finish themselves no matter how hard you stare at them.  Or even just the ideas that won't quite gel - you know, the ones that need a nudge to turn into an actual story. (This used to be a regular - Wednesday - feature of the comm, and is quite possibly the reason "Highway of Diamonds" got written.)

Come and get inspiration from your friends in this wonderful comm!

-  Tell us about the corner you've written yourself into - maybe someone can help you out?

-  Tell us which plot hole you're stuck in - maybe someone has a tow line?

-  Tell us which character arc you're thinking of that seems off - we'll give them a stern talking to and get them to cooperate.

-  Give us an excerpt that we can ooh and aah over, so as to inspire you to continue!

There are some amazing writers on this site that are only to happy to help out, be used as a sounding board, cheer you on or give you a little push.  Because we are selfish if there is one thing we like, it's more great Clintasha fic!

This weekend let’s talk about titles!

When do you decide on the title for a fic? Do you usually know at the start and build the fic around the title, or are you the kind of person who scrambles to find one after the fic is complete? How do you chose your titles or get inspiration for them? Capitals or lower case? What’s your favourite title that you’ve come up with? Artists, how do you name your art?

What about other people’s titles, are there any that you especially like or that grabbed your attention? Are there any film, book etc titles that got you interested?

In today's ATTF:

a) post a comment chatting about any or all of the above. Let's have some conversations!

b) here's a thing that I found with a 'twenty titles for a writer' exercise. Pick one of your fics/peices of art/vids etc - either finished and already posted, or something new that you're working on - and have a go at this exercise. Post the results in a comment. Everyone else, which titles do you think work best?

Artists: here's an art of the title selection that's fun! Maybe pick a title - even a title from this weekend's ATTF - and play around with how you could make it look?

c) comment with ASK ME and a link to where people can find your creative works. People will then reply with one/some of your titles. Reply with where that title came from, why you chose it, your thoughts behind it.

d) ALL THE THINGS! This is, after all, entitled All The Things Friday ;)

You can sign up to host an ATTF, suggest ideas for future ATTFs, and see what's coming up in ATTFs HERE

Hello, hello, hello and HELLO 2017! It's a brand new year, which means we're kickstarting All The Things Friday again and with a 'things we're looking forward to in 2017' edition.

Do you have any fics, fanvids, or other creative works you hope to start/progress/finish this year? (Can we have a sneak peak?) Have you made any new year's resolutions? What films/books/tv shows are coming out this year that you're excited about? Let's have a chat about good things!

How to play: copy and paste the contents of the text box below into a comment and fill in the answers, then have a chat with people about the great things 2017 has in store.

New Year, new ATTF sign up post! Yes, that's right, ALL THE THINGS FRIDAY IS BACK.

What is this All The Things Friday of which you speak?
All The Things Friday is bascially a day where we have a post that kicks off a weekend-long party. That post can be a call for recs, discussion, picspams, meta, thinky thoughts, squee, dance parties, mini challenges, ANYTHING that you would like to see on this comm. You can take a look at any of the tags with 'Friday' in to see the kinds of things that we've gotten up to before. Although if someone has already used your idea, don't worry; repeats are fine, because there are always new fics to rec and ideas had :)

Who can host?
Anyone. You can host on your own, or as a team, or with a mod. If you have suggestions but don't want to host you can comment with suggestions, and if you're not sure about hosting you can chat about ideas in the comments.

What does hosting mean?
Being the person that writes the party post and then joining in with the fun that happens. It's not writing War and Peace, just something to get things going, like questions to get people thinking about meta or a theme for fic recs.

It's moderating something?
No, don't worry. If you have any problems throw it to the mods as normal. It's more like chairing a gathering, being the DJ, yelling for drinks all around. It's as much or as little work as you want it to be.

How does hosting work?
You write a post about what kind of Friday you want it to be, opening up the floor, and you post it at any time on a Friday. For people worried about timezones, really, any time - we party on throughout the weekend. At the bottom of your Friday post we'd like you to copy and paste this:

Want to get involved? Comment with what Friday you'd like to do and what you'd like to do and we'll add you to the sign up list below. Check in to see what upcoming Fridays we have and to suggest more ideas. Get excited!

Hello honorable comrades, and welcome to the latest All the Things Friday! I'll be your host this week, sort of. More on that in a minute. If you want to be a host for a future ATTF, go to this page and check out the info!

Firstly, credit to [livejournal.com profile] inkvoices and [livejournal.com profile] workerbee73, who masterminded the ATTF I'm mostly copy-pasting for this one. They ran a really successful and super fun Friday a few years back, so here's to hoping that spirit will return, and shower us with loads of great fanworks, just in time to procrastinate all out holiday exchange fics :))) not that I'm speaking personally or anything, and/or cushion the blow of November holidays with relatives. One would hope.

There are three parts to this ATTF challenge/game. If you'd like to participate, you can choose any or all of the options, or just sit back and glut! :D

1. Rec a fanwork (fic, art, podfic, graphics, mural graffitied on a wall in town, etc.) by a fandom newcomer, or just an underappreciated work that you feel deserves some love.

2) Tell us the first thing that you wrote/made in this fandom. How did you get into it, what was the inspiration, was it hard to do? What do you think about it now, either in content or composition? Tell the story of your story! Link if you're brave enough :D

3) Rec something you wrote/made in this fandom that you’re most proud of, or that’s your favourite.

Discussion Ideas: How have your thinky thoughts or creative leanings changed since that first thing you wrote/made? How far have we come since the film was released? What is it about the shiny new things coming through that are different, that have changed your thinking?

We've had a few good recs and discussions on this community lately, but with the way the movies, comics, and, basically, 2016, I think it'll do us some good to harken back to the golden days. Maybe it'll give us some inspiration for the future. <3

What are your three things for this Friday?

And a few things to keep in mind:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment has is graphic/images/gif heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

It's Civil War general release this month around the world and ATTF IS BACK so to get us in the mood our first Autumn All The Things Friday is Civil War party time!

Let us know when the release day is in your part of the world. Bring anything with a Clint and/or Natasha focus, bring gen and team things, bring kickass lady things, bring anything about Civil War that you like. Bring your fic recs, art recs, gifs, picspams, meta, thinky thoughts, squee, speculation, and ALL THE THINGS CIVIL WAR. LET'S ROCK THIS BAR.

It’s almost - almost - time for this year’s SUMMER PROMPTATHON! (No, really, SOON. EXCITEMENT!) So we’re warming up those prompting brain cells and writing muscles for this week’s All The Things Friday in anticipation of the main event.

Here’s how this works: comment to this post with a prompt. As many times as you like. People can then fill those prompts, but only with fics that are three sentences long OR exactly 100 words long OR a graphic containing 140 characters or less.

You can get creative with what three sentences look like or be precise with 100 words. You can write in installments of three sentences or 100 words. You can fill as many prompts as you like, the same prompt can be filled multiple times, and you can even write fills in response to other people's fills to create round robin or chain fics. We're open to creativity, but the aim of the game is three sentences OR 100 words OR 140 characters in a graphic - choose your challenge!

We’re going to wrap this up before promptathon, so this ends at midnight on Sunday, whenever midnight is in your time zone. The usual community rules apply and the usual community theme - which is that we love all things Natasha and Clint, with each other, other people, threesomes, in gen fic, you know how we roll.

Happy Friday :)

PS. If anyone would like to make a summer or promptathon themed community banner for August check out a monthly news post for the guidelines, send them in to be_compromised@hotmail.com, and you will receive CAPSLOCK APPRECIATION and virtual hugs from me!

So, we haven't had one of these for a while.  But it's summer time, some of us are on holidays, even travelling (I'm at an airport, en route to Crete as I write this).  What better time to remember that Clint and Natasha have been virtually everywhere on the planet, doing good and killing bad guys?  Or even just relaxing and levelling out after the latest alien invasion or brain melt.

So, tell us about your favourite head canon:  Where do they go to relax?  What is their MOST or LEAST favourite place they've ever been on mission (and yes, Budapest counts)?  Why?

Have they ever been to your home town?  What would they find there?

Or meta for us.  What do you make of those tossed-off references, like Budapest?  "He's in Afghanistan."  That snippet from Abidjan on the computer.  What grabs you when people throw those into a fic?

Give us a prompt, a three-sentence fic, or rec us a story (or three).  And yes, self-recs are good!

And:

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

Hello all and welcome to this week's all the things friday's EPIC REC PARTY!

Read a good fanfic lately that you'd like to share or some old favourites? Looking for specific fics or just a general genre you're in the mood for? Watched a great fanvid, seen some gorgeous art, laughed at something on tumblr, found a great gif? Podfics, playlists, icons, all the things? Looking for any of those? SEARCHES AND SHARING OF ALL THE THINGS WELCOME.

Feel free to rec and request things from the wider Marvel universe as well as things featuring Clint and/or Natasha. And if you end up chatting with people about things non-Marvel *gasp* feel free to rec each other books and films and tv shows and other things as well. To keep things easy to spot just please put something in your comment's subject line to indicate the content.

And: this comm is no longer a spoiler-free zone for Civil War so Civil War recs and searches are also welcome.

Bring on the party!

Reminder: you can sign up to host ATTF or suggest ATTF ideas HERE. We're looking for hosts and ideas for June and July :)

Hello fellow enthusiasts! And welcome to another All the Things Friday!

I definitely did not confuse Friday and Saturday this week, no sir-ee. (Sorry.  D: )

This week the challenge/partay is modelled after [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic's daily challenge, wherein participants will comment to the post with prompts that relate to the daily topic. This week's topic is *drumrolls* ALTERNATE UNIVERSE

If you've been dying to read Lumberjack!Natasha/Birdwatching!Enthusiast!Clint, this is your time!
If you have a craving for a high school AU with popular kid Clint and emo artist Natasha (who would be best friends with skinny!Steve, of course), this is your place!
If the newly developed ships of Ultron didn't sit right with you and you want to rewrite some scenes (or the whole movie) as Clintasha, this is your motion!

AU is the way we are feeliiinn'!

I may be slightly too into AUs, what, who said that?

ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS ATTF is headcanons! Say nobody else prompts your Lumberjack/Birdwatching story, but you've got a lot of feelz for it anyway? Or you can't fic for the prompt 'Activists' but you have some opinions about how it would work anyway? Go right ahead and put your metaphorical pen to the metaphorically physical comments! I think I speak for everyone when I say we really really want to read it.

Special rule: In the spirit of comment-fics, and more generally of ATTF, we ask that stories or headcanons be posted as replies to the prompts or the main post. Except for:
-If it gets long enough to be unwieldy here, we'd rather that you post a link to your journal or AO3 account rather than kinkmeme style reply-posting.
-If a prompt super-grabs you and grows into some epic length fic, and you finish a month from now, feel free to post that sucker to the com (as well as replying to the original comment because I, at least, tend to miss stuff like that if it's not shoved in my face via Inbox).

Normal rules:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

20 May 2016 @ 01:00 pm
Inspired by our two favourite assassins, this week’s ATTF topic is languages. Specifically languages and how they’re portrayed in media.

We know that Natasha’s first language is Russian and, in the comics at least, Clint can ‘speak’ sign language. Considering that they’re spies and have a history of travelling the world it’s likely that they also speak other languages.

I’ve seen comics portray other languages by putting an asterisk to a translation, or to a note saying ‘they’re actually speaking in X’. The excellent David Aja was creative the Hawkeye comics in his portrayal of languages – and hearing difficulties – in speech bubbles, but also using sign language, body language, and even symbols for a dog’s-eye view of the world:

What do you think about how languages are shown in the films and comics? What about other media and what about in fanfiction? How have you seen other languages depicted, how do you like to see them depicted, and is that dependent on circumstances? For example, if the protagonist isn’t meant to be able to understand the language/s they’re hearing. How have you depicted other languages?

Feel free to bring other films, tv shows, books, and media into this conversation. For example, in Firefly to show how the American and Asian cultures had merged in the future – and so that the characters could swear creatively – the English speaking cast swore in, and emphasised points in, Mandarin. But then I’m curious, if we’d had an Asian character would they have sworn in English?

And those of you from non-English countries, tell us about translations, dubbing, seeing your own languages as ‘foreign’, all the things. Lets talk about things that are lost in translation. Let’s talk about accents and dialect. Let's talk about swearing and getting creative with curses. Let’s talk about Allspeak and how that even works.

Let’s talk about talking: go!

Hello Best of Bars!

Time for a little Friday something.  Most of us here write fan fiction, and those of us who don't, read it.  Or make cool art.  And when you do any of these things, you will have come across things that make you go, "WAIT.  Did they just make that up?  No -- can't be.  It's too familiar.  Must be from ..."

Chances are, you've come across fanon.  Some idea or factoid that has turned up so often, it's become Truth.  Like those things:

- Coulson recruited Clint.
- Natasha drinks tea.
- He made that different call because he watched her care for civilians/children/a kitten.

That's fanon -- fan-made canon.

If you're the only one who has one of those ideas, that's head canon.  Sometimes, you get the ultimate compliment from a reader:  "head canon accepted."  And if that happens often enough, your brilliant idea can turn into fanon!

Finally, there are the fanfic formats we all love so much, people have turned them into bingos:  the good old tropes"  H/C, friends-to-lovers, body swaps, sex pollen...

All of it adds up to making fan fic into something comfy and familiar that you can pull over your shoulders like an old blanket at the end of a tiring day at the coal face of life.  So, here's the challenge:

-  Tell us your favourite fanon and tropes -- ideally with a fic rec? (And yes, fic self recs are cool!  Help our newbies find your stuff!!!)
-  Or give us a three-sentence fic with one!
-  Which are the ones you can't stand, and wish that they would disappear back under the rock whence they crawled?
-  Tell us your favourite head canon(s)!
-  Maybe you have an instance where your head canon turned up in a movie and you had that delicious moment of wondering whether Joss Whedon read your fic?

Go forth and prosper -- all weekend long! (It's a three-day one here in Europe, so yay! us...)

HELLO EVERYONE IN THIS WONDERFUL BAR. Today we are four! How brilliant is that?! Four years, 927 members, and 37,719 comments – and more by the time this post goes live, I’m sure. That’s an incredible amount of promptathons, exchanges, challenges, discussions, and a HUGE outpouring of creativity, not to mention how positive, welcoming, friendly, and just plain awesome you all are.

So to celebrate, in true [livejournal.com profile] be_compromised fashion, we’re going to have ourselves a good old-fashioned getting-to-know-you community friending party post! Chat to new and old community friends, add each other as LJ friends if you like or don’t, no pressure, just PARTY. Free drinks at the bar, grab yourselves a slice of cake, and for goodness’ sake be careful with the pass the parcel, someone probably put weaponry in there.

To kick things off copy and paste the below into a comment and go wild:

And from all your mods: HAPPY COMMUNITY ANNIBIRTHDAY!

Today's challenge is a drabble challenge. I'm a purist who can't resist drabbles which are exactly 100 words long, but realize that there are lots of people out there who aren't, so any super short ficlet of 300 or less words would work here. (But you get bonus pionts if you DO keep your drabbles to exactly 100 words! And my unending admiration, which, not gonna lie, you probably already have. :))

How can you participate?
Leave a prompt! Write a drabble from a prompt! Or, to make it even more interesting, use the last line of someone else's drabble as the first line of yours! It doesn't need to be a continuation - although it could be - but merely an interesting new prompt/starting point. (This is shamelessly stolen from Giles-Shorts.)

Also, stealing rules from previous posts --
1) The usual community rules apply and the usual community theme - which is that we love all things Natasha and Clint, with each other, other people, threesomes, in gen fic,
2) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
3) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

HAPPY FRIDAY!
