Welcome to February, best bar!

With Prompt-a-thon right around the corner, I wanted to spend this week’s ATTF talking about the spaces our favorite assassins occupy. Setting can make such an impact on a story, and our own understandings and headcanons about the places Clint and Natasha call home reflect their personalities and influence the way we each write about them. So:

 • What do their respective homes look like to you? Do they live at the Tower with the rest of the Avengers, or at SHIELD, or somewhere else? What items or features do you always include when your writing takes you into one of their homes?
 • If they live together, what’s that like? Does Clint leave his dirty socks everywhere (yes)? Does Natasha absolutely refuse to get rid of that hideous lamp even though it doesn’t even work?
 • Of course, these two also spend plenty of time on the run or lying low. What do all of Natasha’s boltholes have in common? How does Clint manage to find purple sheets for literally every safehouse, no matter how remote?

Share your headcanons about any of the above, or anything else living-space related! Write us a little description of Natasha’s kitchen, or the makeshift target on Clint’s fire escape, or whatever else! Tell us about you writing process when it comes to creating settings! Recommend us some reading material!

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

Happy Friday All!

We're going with more of a creative support group theme for this week's ATTF, talking about titles and summaries.

When do you decide on the title for a fic? Do you usually know at the start and build the fic around the title, or are you the kind of person who scrambles to find one after the fic is complete? How do you chose your titles or get inspiration for them? Capitals or lower case? What’s your favourite title that you’ve come up with?

What about other people’s titles, are there any that you especially like or that grabbed your attention? Are there any film, book etc titles that got you interested?

Summaries - how do you write them? Do you try to sum up the whole fic, or the general vibe? 'To quote or not to quote' something from the fic itself?

And not to leave out our artists and other creative types, how do you name your art/vid/fanmixes/creations? Do you caption it, or let it speak for itself?

Bonus: if you'd like to play, comment with ASK ME and a link to where people can find your creative works. People will then reply with one of your titles or summaries. Reply with where that title/summary idea came from, why you chose it, and your thinky thoughts!

Go here to suggest ideas for future ATTFs or sign up to host.

First ATTF of the year! Relevant to your interests: we have a new sign up post for 2019 here, also asking for suggestions on how we can liven things up. For this week though, let's talk about:

What To Do When You've Seen Those Few Clint And Nat Moments In The Endgame Trailer, And Suddenly You Need More In Your Life Again, But Endgame Is Not Until APRIL.

Yeah. That.

Are you revisiting old fics? Desperately searching for new ones? Exploring other corners of Marvel (or other fandoms)? Got any recs?

Perhaps you're racing to finish a fic before you get jossed, or suddenly fired up to write Marvel fic again, create icons/graphics again, or re-read your favourite comics/graphic novels? Which ones are your favourites?

Or perhaps you have other countdown coping methods?

Let us know, folks of the bar, because we're all in this boat together :)

Hi All, we were a bit hit and miss with ATTFs last year. If you have any suggestions about livening the bar up - restructing ATTFs, ideas for posts, other things we can do throughout the year - please let us know in the comments. Otherwise for now here's a new sign up post to see if we can get things going...

What is this All The Things Friday of which you speak?
All The Things Friday is bascially a day where we have a post that kicks off a weekend-long party. That post can be a call for recs, discussion, picspams, meta, thinky thoughts, squee, dance parties, mini challenges, ANYTHING that you would like to see on this comm. You can take a look at any of the tags with 'Friday' in to see the kinds of things that we've gotten up to before. Although if someone has already used your idea, don't worry; repeats are fine, because there are always new fics to rec and ideas had :)

Who can host?
Anyone! But if you have suggestions but don't want to host you're very welcome to comment with suggestions for other people/the mods to use.

What does hosting mean?
Being the person that writes the party post and then joining in with the fun that happens. It's not writing War and Peace, just something to get things going, like questions to get people thinking about meta or a theme for fic recs.

It's moderating something?
No, don't worry. If you have any problems throw it to the mods as normal. It's more like chairing a gathering, being the DJ, yelling for drinks all around. It's as much or as little work as you want it to be.

How does hosting work?
You write a post about what kind of Friday you want it to be, opening up the floor, and you post it at any time on a Friday. For people worried about timezones, really, any time - we party on throughout the weekend. At the bottom of your Friday post we'd like you to copy and paste this:

Want to get involved? Comment with what Friday you'd like to do and what you'd like to do and we'll add you to the sign up list below. Check in to see what upcoming Fridays we have and to suggest more ideas. Get excited!

Happy Friday folks of the bar!

The epic summer promptathon is almost upon us, so this weekend it's time to stretch those creative muscles with some mini prompts and fills.

1) Leave a short prompt in a comment. You can leave as many prompts as you like, but please put each prompt in a seperate comment.

2) Reply to prompts with three sentence fics or a fic in 100 words exactly. You can reply to as many prompts as you like and prompts can have multiple fills. You can even reply to your own prompts. The more writing the better! And, if so inclined, feel free to reply in graphic or icon form instead.

For the purposes of this ATTF prompts and fills include any Marvel characters.

The comm is no longer a spoiler free zone for Avengers: Infinity War but please no spoilers for Ant-Man and the Wasp. Thanking you!

3) Have fun! And get that practise in before promptathon!

Hello Bar!

This week's ATTF is all about inspiration: finding it, keeping it and turning it into a story.

Every person is moved by different things, and people can draw inspiration from the most unexpected situations. (I once came up with an idea for a fic during a dancing session with my local folklore group.) A song, an image, a gifset, a good prompt... anything goes.

O
f course, finding a good idea and putting it into words is a whole different story. If I had a dollar for every abandoned WIP, I would be... well, not exactly rich, but you get the picture.

So, tell us about you! Where do you draw inspiration from? How do you come up with ideas for a story? And, most importantly, once you start writing, how do you keep going? Are you one of these admirable people who can write thousands of words in one sitting? Do you have any tips and tricks to share regarding the writing process?

Pull up a chair, grab a cold drink and let us know in the comments!

This weekend is our community’s annibirthday (6 years since we started out on LJ) and it’s the tenth birthday of the MCU (Iron Man was released in May 2008)! To celebrate we’re having a good old fashioned nostalgic REC-A-THON.

How It Works: You can pick and choose from the handy meme format below, or use all of it, or just get commenting with recs of ALL THINGS MARVEL. Rec your favourite Clint/Natasha and Clint & Natasha works, branch out and rec things that focus on other characters, pairings, and teams in the MCU, or go really wild and even rec things from the comics. It's party time and everyone's invited!

This is a spoiler free zone so NO INFINITY WAR recs, mentions, or anything. We are here for the last ten years of Marvel and a mountain of nostalgia :)

Copy and paste for suggestions on getting started:

Things to remember:
1) Nothing Infinity War. At all.
2) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
3) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
4) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
5) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

Hellooo Bar!

For this week's ATTF, let's talk about music! For me, listening to music is a huge part of my writing process, especially when I'm trying to achieve a specific mood in a certain scene, or when I hit the worst part of writing: looking for a title. I tend to gather songs for things on working on; for example, I made on for the radio AU I wrote, and right now my spotify account features a boat-themed playlist because i'm attempting to write that yacht fic for crystallitanie :) Even when I'm not writing, I love finding fanmixes that either give tone to a relationship or are just stuffed full of songs that perfectly represent characters.

So!
-Do you listen to music while you're writing, and if so, what/what kind?
-Is there music you listen to specifically when you write about our favorite assassins, or just a song that you think represents them? -Do you make fanmixes, or have a favorite bookmarked somewhere? (And can we hear them)?
-Also, if you have any music-related headcanons, throw those out there, too!

HELLO BEST BAR. New Year, New Excitements, New Frustrations, NEW MOD (HELLO!)

Yes, ‘tis I, your new mod, kicking off [community profile] be_compromised 2018 ATTF with: THINGS WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2018.

2018 has to be better than 2017 right? I mean, for one, we’re getting Black Panther this February which obviously makes this February better than last, right? And this is also the year of Infinity War and Bearded Cap (!!!).

But other than that, what are you looking forward to? Do you have any fics, fanvids, or other creative works you hope to start/progress/finish this year? (Can we have a sneak peek?) Have you made any new year's resolutions? What films/books/TV shows are coming out this year that you're excited about?

Let's have a chat about good things! And I know that this is a Clint/&Natasha comm but we’re all friends here right? Branch out! Is there a non-Marvel film that you’re stoked for? (They do exist: strange but true!) Excited for a book that’s being released this year? Tell us about it! Maybe someone else is excited about it too. (I, for one, am excited about Nick Hawkaway’s Gnomon being released in paperback this year so I can finally read it.)

How to play: copy and paste the contents of the text box below into a comment and fill in the answers, then have a chat with people about the great things 2018 has in store.

This Friday let's have a chat about all the things we'd love some help with when it comes to creating fanfic (and other works) and help we might be able to offer. One of the great things about fandom is how it's a hive of creativity :)

Back in 2012 we had a useful discussion about beta reading that led to a a beta directory being created. It's now out of date! Plus as well as beta reading there's a lot of other help available in this bar that it'd be good to share. And what better time than when we're in the middle of creating for Secret Santa? (And NaNoWriMo for some productive people!)

Step One - Discuss all things creative support on this post

Need a beta reader? Got questions about how to approach someone?
Stuck on a plot point? Want someone you can talk through ideas with?
Looking for someone to translate into a different language?
Not sure about writing a fight scene or a sex scene?
Need a cheerleader to help you meet a deadline?
Want to fact check something technical or medical or historical?
Want to talk about disabilities (ie. deaf Clint) or putting diversity in creative works?
Need other creative support help that you've just not been able to find?
Just want to talk about creating?!

2. Sign up to offer creative support help on this new Creative Support Directory !

Go!

Happy Halloween folks! It's the spoooooky time of year again, and that means IT'S TIME FOR OUR ANNUAL HALLOWEEN COMMENT PARTY!

Being All Hallow's Eve, we will naturally be trick or treating.

How does that work, I hear you ask? Well, let us show you...

- If you want to give out treats reply to this post with "MY DOOR IS OPEN"

- Members of the bar will then reply with "treat" for something sweet or fluffy, "trick" for something spooky or with dark edges, or of course "trick or treat"!

- You will then hand out your tricks and treats. These can be anything you want: comment fic, three sentence fics, picspam, recs, a compliment, a sneak peak of something you're already working on, icons, gifs, anything, ALL THE THINGS, whatever strikes your fancy. You're welcome to ask for prompts or other specifics from your trick-or-treaters.

- There is no deadline for providing tricks and treats. You're welcome to put a limit on how many things you're willing/able to fill.

- Come one, come all!

Happy Friday All! Since there is now only 13 and a half hours left to sign up to Secret Santa 2017 (!!!) this week's All The Things Friday is a chat about fandom gift exchanges (and any other fandom fun related to that).

New to gift exchanges, or an old-hand but have something you've always wondered? Ask the comm!
Secret Santa specific questions? Very welcome!
What exchanges have you taken part in/are you taking part in this year?
What's your favourite thing about fandom gift exchanges? Favourite type of exchange?
Best advice for signing up and taking part in exchanges? Links to helpful posts?
How to find beta readers, meeting exchange deadlines, pinch hitting... tell us your tales!
Rec us things from exchanges, including self recs of things you've created for them!

It's a weekend to chat about exchanges and help each other out with creative tips and cheerleading :)

I am a horrible hostess and got so involved with cleaning and clearing out my office that I forgot my hostessing duties! Oh noes! But it's still Friday and we have a whole fabulous fall weekend ahead of us, so here we go...

Once upon a time, there was a Princess named Emily and she adored bubblebaths. She also adored fandom. Hence, bubblefic was born.

What is bubblefic, you ask? Well, if you want to get technical, it's fic that features a bubblebath. But why should we limit ourselves here? It could be anything related to water--a bath, a shower, a hot tub, a kiddie pool.

Sometimes bubblefic is smutty (cause, hello? nekkid people!), but just as often it's not. Sometimes it's art, sometimes it's a drabble. Sometimes it's just a headcanon. Get creative and show us your bubbles!

As always...

Hi guys! Our ATTF is more like an ATTWednesday this week. Whoops.

Today we're talking about The News. As international spies and assassins, Clint and Natasha have to keep up with the news. Which broadcasters do they follow? Do they make bets over where they will be sent on missions? Do they express opinions about stuff going on in the world or do they try to stay fairly neutral?

Or on the flipside, do Clint and Natasha get reported on in the news now that they have a public profile? What sort of things are said about them? Are they reported about in trashy tabloids? How do they feel about the things said about them?

Thoughts, opinions and fics/recs are more than welcome.

Also, a reminder to you lovely people that we are still planning to have our summer promptathon. Stay tuned!

Happy Friday, everyone!

The solstice this week means that's officially summer! If you love summer, it's the season for fireworks, popsicles, and visits to the beach; if you hate it, summer means mosquitoes, sweltering humidity, and broken air conditioning. Think about some of these:

>How do our favorite assassins prefer to use their summer? Would Natasha prefer to spend her summer vacation rock climbing in China or lounging by the beach? How often does Clint organize a barbecue at the Tower (and/or burn everything he tries to grill, potentially)?
>Embarrassing vacation moments
>Navigating vacation spots (for example, the time my husband and I drank too much wine in Venice and then had to figure out the water bus system...)
>Vacation spots they'd never want to return to OR
>Mission destinations that someone wishes was a vacation destination

No matter how you feel about summer, pull up at stool at the bar and tell us about your summer headcanons, rec us something summery that you love, write us a little comment fic, and/or tell us what you're doing this summer!

Happy Friday people of the bar! It's that ATTF time again :)

This week is all about the PLACES in the Marvel universe. From New York to Budapest, Sokovia to Kathmandu, Siberia to Wakanda, Earth to the rest of the Galaxy... we're seeing more and more of the Marvel universe. This week we're going to explore!

> What are your thoughts/headcanons about the places we've been introduced to?
> Share your favourite screenshots, fun facts, any interesting about places in the Marvel universe, or that you've been to, would love to go to...anywhere!
> Share your headcanons about the places that our favourite assassins have been to, for missions or for fun.
> What characters would you like to send where?
- How do you go about embedding your fic/creative work in a particular location and bringing that place to life?
> Rec creative works set around the world or ones where you think a sense of place was really well done

Welcome to your weekend getaway :)

Welcome to the [community profile] be_compromised annibirthday party post!

If you hail from Livejournal, welcome back, it's wonderful to see you here. If you're new to our community, from Dreamwidth and elsewhere, HELLO! Pull up a bar stool, have a read of our Welcome and Rules Post while we pour you a drink, and make yourself at home.

Today our community, as originally created on LJ, is 4 5 years old with 2,034 entries and an amazing 39,628 comments. That’s an incredible amount of promptathons, exchanges, challenges, discussions, and a HUGE outpouring of creativity, not to mention how positive, welcoming, friendly, and just plain awesome you all are. Today is also a new annibirthday of sorts for us as we move to Dreamwidth.

To get things started properly over here and to celebrate in true [community profile] be_compromised fashion we're going to have ourselves a good old-fashioned getting-to-know-you community friending party post! Friend the new Dreamwidth version of the comm, find LJ friends on Dreamwidth or find ways of staying in touch, meet new friends, add each other as friends if you like or don't and just chat here instead, no pressure, just PARTY. Free drinks at the bar, grab yourselves a slice of cake, and for goodness’ sake be careful with the pass the parcel, someone probably put weaponry in there.

To join the fun copy and paste the below into a comment and go wild:

And from all your mods: HAPPY COMMUNITY ANNIBIRTHDAY!

Dear Comm Members (those of you who haven't scattered yet out of fear of the new LJ Terms of Service):

I think most of us here are fans of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and its progenitor/parellel universe, the Marvel Comics and their various divergent versions (616, Ultimates, Fraction/Aja, Edmunson/Noto ...). Because once you love Clint and Natasha, you can't get enough of them - I know I've been digging up even some vintage versions of them since the days when I professed complete ignorance of the comics 'verse.

So tell us - do you have a preference? Slight or definitive? Do you prefer terse, flinty-eyed, Ultimates-inspired Hawkdad from the MCU; the human-car-crash-but-still-professional Fraction version; or the atonement-driven Occupy Avengers guy in the tac suit? Do you harken back to the femme fatale assassin of the 616; or do you prefer the sarcastic Avengers whisperer played by Scarlett Johansson, or the guilt-ridden, liquid-eyed cat lover created by Phil Noto?

Or do you do pick and choose what you like and mash them up into the kind of convergent whole Marvel never seems to quite manage?

And while you're at it, do you have any recs you can share for your favourite fanfic version of Clint and/or Natasha (whether inspired by one of the "originals" or completely different)?

And finally, do you foresee any convergence of the comics verse and the MCU in the forthcoming Avengers 3 and 4?

The floor is yours!
