Hello there,

So we are all a fan of the super spies/assassin and can all basically agree that they are certified badasses when it comes to their work. But they can't always be working, right? I mean even the most dedicated spy, once broken free

Do you think that they have any hobbies or do you think work takes up a lot of their times?
Do you think that they keep any hobbies consistently or do they always try new things?
Do you think they share any hobbies or do they have very differing tastes?
Do they have hobbies that they share with other teammates?
What do you think they like to do for fun?

Personally I tend to think that Natasha doesn't really know what to do with spare time. She like music, but when she first broke free of her orders she was left a bit hollow and confused about why people would do things other than train. With time I think she took to quiet hobbies like reading to keep herself occupied, but she still keeps doing things like dancing even without the conditioning (old habits are hard to break after all). She doesn't really share her hobbies and just kind of does them to recuperate by herself.

Clint on the other hand I picture having a lot of hobbies. For some reason I always picture him being able to play the guitar, acoustic, and then will pick up other hobbies at random. Like he will see someone juggling and go "That is badass, I should learn how to do that" and then train until he gets good at it. Then he will get bored once he gets good at it and find something else he can set his sights on. All of his hobbies are big and flashy though, a remnant of his circus days. I can see him showing off for Natasha and her humoring him and giving him snark about whatever he is doing.

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

You've worked. You've waited. And now the day is finally here.

The time for submissions to the Clint/Natasha Promptathon is here. Please cast your eyes over our rules!

How to post
:
1.  Respond in a comment to the prompt you are filling.
2.  Make sure to label your submission in the subject line with the type of fanwork (fic/icon/artwork/vid/fanmix/etc.) + the title.  For example:

"FIC: 5 Times Clint and Natasha Were Awesome Badass Asaassinpeople (and One Time They Were Extra-Awesome), rated: M, no warnings"

When filling in the subject line, you may need to view the comm in it's original style (if you don't already). Just make sure you can see a subject line when responding with your submission.

3. Be sure to leave ratings and warnings (if any) in the subject line. (See example above.)  Help us out and make sure folks know what they're clicking on. Thoughtfulness = LOVE. If the ratings or the warnings won't fit in the subject line, just leave them at the top of your post. If you don't want to include warnings, please put 'I choose not to warn' in the subject line, or at the top of the post if it doesn't fit.

4.  Try and post the entire work in the comment (if it's short enough), or if not, post a link. I'm all about one-stop shopping whenever possible, so try and post in the main promptathon post if the length allows.  Also, if it is too long to post in the promptathon post, consider posting the first section as a teaser and then a link (b/c that's always fun too.)  Either way, be sure to label your post in the subject line as described above (**points to rule #2**).

5. Please put anything NSFW under a cut or link.

6. Put any spoilers for upcoming Marvel movies under a cut or link with an appropriate warning.

7. Leave a comment in the Masterlist Post with a link to your fanwork and the prompt you are responding to. You can include the prompt either in a link, or by copy/pasting the prompt into your comment (probably the easiest option for text prompts). We have a lot of prompts this year and hopefully a lot of fills, so doing this will help us keep the Masterlist up to date so you don't miss out on the awesome fanworks! Your mods will thank you. ;)

If you miss the submission cut-off date (August 31), you can always post directly to the comm, but let's wait a couple of days first. I don't want to get flooded with new posts right out of the gate.  For now, let's try and keep all of the action at the actual promptathon post.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Now, go forth and share your works with us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Good Ship C/N Promptathon
of Magic and Joy: Round 3

Break out the confetti canons!!

RULES ON POSTING SUBMISSIONS
(please read before you post! <3)

The Rules. Just follow these three easy steps!

1. Leave a Prompt.
Prompts can be anything--simple or elaborate, words or pictures, songs or poems, lyrics or phrases. Anything that, to you, inspires a C/N fanwork. Use your imagination. Go WILD. All we ask is that you place anything NSFW under a cut or link, use trigger warnings when appropriate, and place anything spoiler-y under a cut with a warning. As this is a Clint/Natasha promptathon, your prompts and fanworks can include other characters, but the central focus must be on Clint and/or Natasha. If you’re posting large images, please be mindful of members with slower Internet connections and place the image under a cut or link.

And leave as many prompts as you want. I’m serious. Keep coming back, y’all. We want all the prompts we can possibly get Also, be sure to leave each prompt as a separate comment.

2. Wait a week.
Keep leaving prompts and plan your fanworks! This is a time for celebration and creating all of the things. Work hard, shippers.

3. Submit C/N fanwork like there is no tomorrow.
All submissions should either be posted here or linked to this post via a comment. We will make an official post about rules in the time leading up to submissions. Please read it before posting, as responsible partying is to be encouraged at all times.

Timeline

Prompting starts today, August 2nd and will remain open until August 9th. Submissions will start on August 16th, and will remain open until August 31st.  It is, in fact, A WHOLE MONTH OF PROMPTATHON.

If you can’t complete your fanwork by August 31st, that’s okay. You’re still welcome to post your fanwork to the community! However, the promptathon masterlist will only include fanworks from August 16-31.

What we hope to accomplish with all this promptathon-iness:

  • A chance to get in the game. Been wanting to jump into the C/N fanwork scene but not sure where to start? Now’s the time. There’s no length requirement on the works submitted, you can focus on drabbles and vidlets and short and sweet projects (or do longer more epic stuff if that strikes your fancy as well).  It’s really entirely up to you. We’re just hoping to provide a fun, no-pressure environment. If all you want to do is post prompts and share in the squee, that’s fine too!

  • Meet new and awesome people. Newbie or lurker? Here is the perfect opportunity to say hello!

  • Ship like you’ve never shipped before.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the mod team.

Have fun, everyone. Now fly, my pretties, fly!

SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED.

Thanks to everyone who participated!

We’ve all seen them, those blow-uppy action movies.  The kind that ends (or middles, because the very last thing is usually a fist fight) with 57 smashed-up vehicles littering the flyover and the streets below, including a school bus, a Greyhound, a semi-truck with a Humpty Dumpty logo and at least six police cars?  Or the ones with a shootout that leaves seventeen black-clad bodies in a suburban shopping mall, or on the steps of a tourist-rich national monument?  You have?  Thought so.

Now, have you ever left the theatre wondering what people's paperwork would look like, after something like that?  For the agents, who just killed in the line of duty (seventeen times!!  with a letter opener!) or even merely discharged their firearms in public repeatedly?  Or for Nora from Accounting, who has to write off the flying car and reimburse Barton for the vintage Springsteen t-shirt with the bullet holes (“Why can’t that headcase just wear the SHIELD standard issue black Under Armour, like everybody else”)?  Or for Maria Hill ("Banner did WHAT?  At Tiffany's??")

At some point, reality will (or should) come crashing down on heroes with a vengeance – and bless Marvel for bringing us the occasional congressional hearing to make that point.  The paperwork will be as epic as the battles.  And organizations like SHIELD probably don’t self-administrate, either.   This is where today’s topic comes in!

Let’s have your snippets of head canon, your prompts and your ficlets, your recs and your self-recs:  Assassins and Administration!

Some samples/mini promots to get your creative juices flowing, and to unlock the memory banks for those recs:

  • Who rents (and services) the safe houses in which Clint and Natasha stitch up their wounds and advance their relationship, in places like Astana, Quito and Milton Keynes?

  • Did Fury sign a death certificate for Coulson?  What did he put on it?

  • Does SHIELD have a pension plan?

  • What did the write-up look like for the lie detector test that Natasha beat?  Or the one Maria Hill took at Stark Industries?

  • Can you imagine Hawkeye trying to fill in the expense claim after that mission in New Mexico?  (“You’re claiming meal allowances for how many days, Barton?  You weren’t exactly working for SHIELD the last three, plus your report said you weren’t even fed!”)

I think you get the idea.

So here's a rec:

Permit A38” by old_chatterhand (General, no warnings apply):  Phil Coulson died.  And then he got better. The story of the agent who had to deal with the paperwork.  Not a Clint/Natasha story, really, but the gold standard for the bureaucrat’s POV.

And a self rec (sorry, but I want you to feel that that's okay, because you know best what you may have done that fits the bill):

AfterMath” (T, no warnings apply):  Based on the Promptathon prompts ““Clint and Natasha doing the inevitable paperwork after an assignment is over” and “… bribing each other with the most outrageous things to get the other to do all of the paperwork.”
Ready, set – go!

And don’t forget these essentials:

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

Hello, everyone!

Are you feeling a surge of creativity after the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier? Then you have until APRIL 19 to sign up for our Clint/Natasha Remix Exchange!

Details are in the sign up post. Hope to see you there!

07 April 2014 @ 06:55 am
Greetings, patrons of the best bar in town!

Your faithful mod team is very excited to announce the first Clint/Natasha Remix Exchange!

What is a Remix?

A remix is, essentially, fanfiction of fanfiction. You create a fanfic using someone else’s fanfic as a starting point. Examples of remixes include writing the story from another character’s perspective, an interlude between scenes, taking the fic in another direction after a certain point (what if this character did X instead of Y?), etc.

How This Works:

When signing up, list up to five fics of yours that you’re happy to have others remix. You’re also allowed to list one ‘wild card,’ ie an MCU fic that is not Clint/Natasha-centric, if you so choose. Then list things you want to write, things you don’t want to write, any triggers, and so on.

When sign-ups close, we will be match people accordingly and assignments will be sent out, like we did for Secret Santa. However, this is not an anonymous gift exchange, so feel free to discuss your assignments if you like.

Fics should be a minimum 1000 words.

If you have enough time left before the due date and there’s a fic by another author that you really want to remix as well as your assignment, feel free to ask us! More fic is fun for everyone.

Dates:

Sign-ups are open from now until April 19. We will aim to have assignments sent out by April 26.

Fics are due mid-June, more info on that below.

Posting:

Fics will be due in mid-June. Since this isn’t an anonymous exchange, at the beginning of June we’ll be posting a sign-up sheet for posting dates. Choose your date and post your fic to the community on that date.

Sign Ups:

Please fill out the following in a comment to this post:

Name:
Email:
Fics I’m offering for remix (please include links):
Wild Card: (optional)
I Want to Write:
I Don’t Want to Write:
I Don’t Want to Receive: (this is for triggers and the like, so no one is in a situation where they can’t read a remix of their fic because the remix includes something triggery for them)

Have fun!

Edit: SIGN UPS ARE NOW CLOSED.

Hello, bar!

It's Friday again, and we have a new movie! Accordingly, this week's ATTF is a free-for-all chat and gif party. However, since many people won't get to see Winter Soldier until this weekend, please keep your discussion spoiler free. Next week we'll attempt an intelligent discussion once we've all seen it and had a chance to recover from the initial flails. :)

A few weeks ago, I whinged to some of you about how disappointed I was that a total fluff piece I had written had received more hits and kudos in the space of 12 hours than my previous, more serious piece had in a week.

And that led me to thinking:  Exactly what moved me to consider -- even just for a moment -- that the one fic was somehow more worthy than the other?  Was I judging people's tastes (kind of odd, since I had written both pieces, obviously so that they would be read)?  Can we really compare apples and oranges?  And I think the answer is probably that yes we can, but not based on the premise that one is intrinsically better or more worthy of our attention than the other.  If I’m in the mood for an orange, no apple will ever scratch that itch, and vice versa. Both can be perfect, in their own way.

So here’s the thing:  I adore fluff.  And crack.  I love writing it, I love reading it, and I will be the first to stand up and declare that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having no other authorial ambition than to entertain.  (After all, is that not why we read comics and go see films like “The Avengers”?)  We live in a world that makes demands on it in every direction, and sometimes we just need to escape, sit back and chuckle, or dream, or watch a penguin chasing a scientist across the ice on YouTube.

As the Bard said in The Tempest, “now I want spirits to enforce, art to enchant.”

For that purpose and no other, let’s have your thoughts and recs – tell us of stories that have amused or bewitched you; the times when one made you smile, or forget; or the reasons you love them.  Why you wrote one, and which one that is (self-recs are good!).  Or give us a new fluffy little something in a comment ficlet!  As you wish …

Here’s a couple to get you started (I picked those tagged as “fluff” or “crack” by the authors themselves):

[livejournal.com profile] eiluned’s The Pixar Movie Thing (rated T, no warnings)

[livejournal.com profile] sarea_okelani’s The Observable Universe (rated T, no warnings)

[livejournal.com profile] frea_o’s http://archiveofourown.org/works/614440 (rated T, no warnings)

And above all:  Have fun!

Hello, lovely bar patrons! I hope you've all had a good week.

This ATTF is all about the hidden gems of this lovely fandom. Here is the space to rec great fics that, in your opinion, have flown under the radar and deserve more readers. Authors get more readers, readers get to see fic they might have otherwise overlooked, everyone wins!

Please provide the title of the fic with a link, the author's name, the rating and whether there are any warnings listed, as well as a brief statement about why you recommend this fic.

Feedback is love in fandom land, so if you find a fic from these recs that you enjoy, it would be great if you could let the author know your appreciation in the form of kudos, comments etc.

Here are some recs of my own to start off:

Hyperfocal Distance, by [livejournal.com profile] frea_o. Rated Teen, warnings for non-explicit violence, threats of non-con and human trafficking. The journalism AU you've always wanted! This is what a truly great AU should be, where everyone still feels in character, but the new setting brings out their traits in surprising, fresh ways. It's also long and plotty, so if you want a fic to sink your teeth into, this is the one.

Dust and Love and Sweat, by [livejournal.com profile] _samalander. Rated Explicit, warnings for graphic violence. Mission fic that ends in very, very hot, beautifully written smut, with great insight into what makes Clint and Natasha tick. What more could you want?

Here the City Code is Lock and Load, by Sproid. Rated Explicit, no warnings listed. I'm a sucker for a good post-apocalyptic AU, and this one is great. It manages to give you just enough of a glimpse at what might have happened to give you an idea, but ultimately the focus is on Clint and Natasha's relationship and how they cope under difficult circumstances. Definitely give this one a read.

You've heard the rumours, including right here in this lovely bar.  Clicked on and squeed over the articles:  Rumours of a Black Widow solo film!  And ... will there be Hawkeye movie, too?

Now's the time to stop drooling or staring into faraway spaces, and to get busy!  Show Joss what he could do with such amazing, smoking hot material!  Here's your chance to sketch out a complete plot, a scene, or an "other Avenger" cameo for the movie(s) you've been pining for.  Hell, why be modest -- give us the whole arc, leading from CA2 to Age of Ultron and beyond, to BW1 and 2, or Hawkeye: The Ronin Years.  Make Hollywood pass the Bechdel test -- give us BW and Melinda May, being total ninjas as they hunt for the missing Captain Marvel.

I think you get the idea?  :-)  Here's hoping you're not prompted out from the Great Valentine Extravaganza!  And since we're not looking for complete scripts but story outlines (although little scenes would be nice, too...) the non-writers in this bar need not feel shy.  This is your chance for equal-opportunity-mayhem-on-the-hoof!

Oh, and if you think there's That Perfect Fic out there that would make a terrific movie script (be it back story or mission/adventure), why not give us a rec while you're at it?  Or your thinky thoughts about why a movie (or two) starring one or more of our favourite assassins is evidence of the Zeitgeist.

Go nuts!

<small>Things to remember:

Hello, best bar!

Is everyone enjoying Secret Santa as much as I am? Because I am loving it!

ATTF is on hiatus for the holidays today (although keep an eye out because I'm going to post the first 2014 signup sheet this weekend). But, fear not! Empire Magazine has brought us cause for flail with their Winter Soldier cover that includes a new pic of Natasha. The full issue with the article will be out next week, at which point we'll hopefully have even more to be excited about, but for now, check out the cover below the cut. :)

I thought I'd start early, so our Aussie colleagues can play while it's still Friday there!  (Although now I will have to submerge for a bit -- work can be a distraction ...)

HERE GOES:

If you're anything like me, you need a break from trying to pummel that Secret Santa story into submission.  But ... not that much of a break, because then you'd get distracted and might have to start from scratch, and that would be just ... horrible.  Right?  Right ...
Allow me to throw you a small distracting flare, in the form of a three-sentence fic challenge.  We've done it before, and it was Huge Fun.  With any luck, it will help to get those creative juices flowing -- maybe in unexpected directions, maybe in a direction that may actually spur you on!
The three-sentence fic is perfect in many ways:
Perfect for a Friday, especially if you've had a glass of wine (mulled or not).
Perfect for writing -- for practicing economy, for packing a wallop in a teeny space, and for getting that single image out of your head that simply won't stretch into a proper fic;
Perfect for prompting (especially if you'd rather not write); and
Perfect for sharing, caring, and a good laugh or some calculated shivers.

Oh, and icons count too!!  (They're small, right?)
Go forth and prompt, ficcify, iconize, crossover, fuse, provide thinky thoughts -- or meta on the utility of three-sentence anything!  We'd just ask that you put any warnings (or "chose not to warns") into the header for anything you may come up with.
And a reminder:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)
Have fun!

Hello dearest bar! It's that time of the week! Are you ready to have some fun here? Today we should discuss (and if you choose, do) some personality tests. You know, those quizzy type of things that usually tell you what kind of bookshelf you are (messy, fancy, pretty... okay, I'm kidding), or give you some kind of profile, telling you about your most important personality traits? So here's what we can do:

1. I have a couple of fun links to quizzes and tests you can fill out, report here and tell everyone what kind of results you got, if you're surprised or not surprised at all

2. discuss and imagine how this would go with Clint and Natasha - every organization like SHIELD has psych evals. What do you think how that works at SHIELD? What kind of profile would Clint get? Is Natasha able to cheat on her psych evals? Is there some kind of running joke, for example, a competition who can give most outlandish answers to intern psychologists and give them a scare (this totally should happen in fic). Do agents try to find out about their results? Do you imagine Clint, Nat, Avengers, or other characters from MCU/Marvel taking one of those Hogwarts house tetsts and then freaking over the results?

3. have fun and get to know each other better, discuss everything and anything

Anyway, the whole point of it all is to have fun, so here we go.

1. Myers-Briggs personality test - this is a serious one, and it takes a little bit of time to fill out, but usually gives pretty good insight into personality traits.

2. the four temperaments test - somewhat simpler, it gives you a basic idea of your personality type.

3. Hogwarts house sorting test - what it says on the lid, it sorts you into one of 4 Hogwarts houses from harry Potter universe. It's a fun thing to do if you're a fan. (Also, can someone fill this one out as Clint or Natasha? That would be fun).

4. The Golden Compass Daemon test - again, based on a book - Phillip Pullman's trilogy His Dark Materials - discover what kind of animal your daemon would be :)

Welcome to Friday, best bar on Earth, and another edition of ATTF, this week hosted by yours truly and [livejournal.com profile] anuna_81.

While researching for hurt/comfort tropes, I came across this really interesting column on hurt/comfort, a lot of which rang true for me.

This especially:

The C in HC is not to be confused with smarm, BTW - that's a different kink, a kind of uber-comfort with only enough hurt (sometimes none) to trigger it.  I like smarm, but I also like the hurt in and of itself - what another fan once called "char torture."  I like comfort to come after, but I'll read stories with insufficient amounts of comfort if the hurt is done well.

I can't really explain what the appeal is.  Partly it's the emotional intensity.  Partly it's the jeopardy.  Partly it's the angst (viva angst!).  But naming different parts of the appeal doesn't really explain what or why it is.

I suspect part of it is the desire to see blatant caretaking going on between the characters, but knowing that, if they are true to character, that won't happen unless something really extreme has just occurred.  So rather than force them out of character to comfort each other for a minor incident, I will produce something extreme and make the comfort in character.  I will also create moments when the characters have nothing TO do but caretake - there's no more reasonable action they can take, they have to wait or hide out for some reason - so no one will tear their hair out screaming at them to stop TALKING and DO something, damn it.  The characters must behave like the intelligent adults they are or it's no good.
....
Pain - like love, death, and sex - is one of the universals of human experience.  We all feel it, we all have to find some way of coping with it.  Whether it's physical, emotional, mental or spiritual (despair is a spiritual pain), we're all gonna run into it.  HC lets us exercise (as Stephen King said, "exercise, not exorcise") our feelings of fascination and repellence regarding pain.  Like a kid with a sore tooth, some of us just can't resist playing with it compulsively.  It hurts, but it's a safe way to explore the hurt without actually having to feel the heights of true agony ourselves.

So here's our challenge: Leave prompts, write h/c fic and have fun! :D
When posting your fics, please don't forget to add a rating and potential triggers in the subject line. Thanks a mill!

Marvel Comics Avengers Propaganda Posters

I love the retro/vintage look to these, plus the bonus of Black Widow and Hawkeye together! It's so hard to find Black Widow and/or Hawkeye merchandise (or at least it is for me).

Last week’s ATTF picspam party was plagued by livejournal troubles, so fingers crossed for todays Friday the 13th ATTF! Which is Agony Aunts (or Uncles).

Agony Aunts are (as on wikipedia) advice column writers in magazines or newspapers originally (and often) presented as older women dispensing wisdom. They range from housekeeping tips, to relationship help, to sexual help, and all sorts. Sometimes they’re hilarious. Sometimes they make you feel less alone. Sometimes, rarely, they’re like Dear Sugar (author Cheryl Strayed, some columns now collected in a book Tiny Beautiful Things. Read Dear Sugar with caution; beautiful, yes, but if this was a fic it’d have a huge warnings and triggers section, just so you know.)

For this weeks All The Things Friday we’re turning the thread into an advice column.

In a comment write a message to an Agony Aunt about or featuring Clint, Natasha, or both from any character (from Marvel or anywhere at all). These letters can be funny or serious, as imaginative as you like. They could be Clint writing in about Natasha. They could be a trainee SHIELD Agent moaning about Clint pranking the newbies or terrified that they’ve offended Natasha and now doom will be upon them. They could be an outsider POV of Clint and Natasha’s relationship. Anything at all.

Someone else can then reply to your comment as the Agony Aunt. Again, this can be funny or serious and as imaginative as you like. It could be an Agony Aunt in a magazine that has no idea who these people are. It could be another Avengers character being an Agony Aunt, or responding to this message shoved under their door, or Fury telling whoever it is that he does not care and get back to work already.

You can write as many Agony Aunt messages as you like. You can reply to as many Agony Aunt messages as you like. You can have as much fun as you like. The Agony Aunts are in!
